Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to be killed during a visit to Iran this week.
The spokeswoman, who spoke on customary condition of anonymity, refused further comment.
Interfax news agency, citing a source in Russia's special services, said suicide terrorists had been trained to carry out the assassination.
In Iran, a spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Mohammad Ali Hosseini, denied any such plot had been uncovered.
These sort of reports are completely baseless and in direction with psychological operations of enemies of relations between Iran and Russia.
There are reports of previous attempts on Putin's life from security officials in Ukraine and Azerbajan.
Ukrainian security officials said they foiled an attempt to kill Putin during a summit in Yalta in August 2000.In 2001, Russian security officials said a plot to assassinate Putin earlier that year in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, had been uncovered by the Azeri special services.
Russian officials linked both alleged plots to Chechen separatists. Putin had sent troops back into the southern Russian republic to crush resistance to Moscow's rule.
It's hard for me to decide if Iran or Russia are telling the truth because I really don't trust either one of them. And since their stories are so different they apparently are not working together harmoniously. Iran is Russia's next-door neighbor, but Putin will be the first Kremlin leader to visit Iran since Joe Stalin attended the 1943 wartime summit with Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
One might think Iran is friends with Russia since Russia is building a nuclear power plant for Iran. However they are both telling a different story on this matter too.
Russia warned early this year that the plant in the southern port of Bushehr wouldn't be launched this fall as planned because Iran was slow in making payments. It has also delayed the shipment of uranium fuel for the plant.Iranian officials have angrily denied any payment arrears and accused the Kremlin of caving in to Western pressure.
Russia and Iran are both located on the Caspian Sea, and a summit about this is supposedly the reason for the summit.
Tuesday's Caspian Sea summit also was unlikely to produce any breakthrough in talks between five nations on dividing the resources of the inland sea, which is believed to contain the world's third-largest energy reserves. The legal status of the Caspian has been in limbo since the 1991 Soviet collapse, leading to tension and conflicting claims to oil deposits.Iran, which shared the Caspian's resources equally with the Soviet Union, insists that each coastal nation receive an equal portion of the seabed. Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan want the division based on the length of each nation's shoreline, which would give Iran a smaller share.
I don't know what is going to happen. On a personal note, I have been chatting by telephone and internet with a lady in Samara who wanted to meet me on my birthday. My birthday is in November, and today I canceled my travel plans to Samara. I got a feeling in my gut that now is not the time.
The part I don't get is whether Iran knows about it and is just lying, or if they don't believe the threat.

Ahmadinejad may think Putin is crazy as well. A strong and aggressive Russia is not something the Middle East enjoys...

Iran could foil an assassination attempt on Putin and pull Russia into even stronger support for Iran.

The cleanup would have been a mess.

I heard Glenn Beck talking about this today, and apparently the chechens that want Putin dead are sunni instead of shia. While Iran has stayed busy supporting shias in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, there are no indications of them supporting sunni chechens. So if Iranian security stopped chechens from killing Putin while he's in Iran, then Putin might trust Iran more as an ally.

This alliance is very threatening to Israel.
The Russians say that Iran has not supplied the uranium for the nuclear power plant. Where is it? It takes a low grade of uranium for a nuclear power plant. It takes a higher grade of uranium to produce WMDs.
