Posted at 10:18pm on Jul. 3, 2006 US Has Never Fought in "International" War

By Proud Kaffir

It suddenly occurred to me to review all of America's past wars and apply the SCOTUS Hamdan-test to determine if they were of "international character".   Using the logic employed by Stevens in the majority opinion, the US has NEVER fought in an international war.

Posted at 12:04pm on Jul. 2, 2006 Liberals in SCOTUS find the Invisible Ink

By Proud Kaffir

I have been completely perplexed by the Hamdan decision.  I mean, here we have the Supreme Court entering us into a one-sided contract with Al Qaeda terrorists, extending Geneva Conventions protections to those who don't warrant them.  Both Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan explicitly refused to enter the US into such an agreement.

Eventually, I came up with an idea.  I held the Geneva Conventions and Steven's majority opinion to a 60-watt lightbulb and- Presto!- the invisble ink developed.  Suddenly, everything made sense.

Posted at 5:58pm on Jul. 1, 2006 CNN Says Gitmo Prisoners to Be Released

By Proud Kaffir

CNN stated this in their analysis of the Hamdan decision:

Under the 5-3 court ruling, the Bush administration must adopt a military system for trying suspected terrorists consistent with international standards -- or release the suspects from military custody.

The only problem is that the decision made no such claim to release any prisoners:

It bears emphasizing that Hamdan does not challenge, and we do not today address, the Government's power to detain him for the duration of active hostilities in order to prevent such harm. But in undertaking to try Hamdanand subject him to criminal punishment, the Executive is bound to comply with the Rule of Law that prevails in thisjurisdiction.

Wishful thinking on CNN's part?

By Proud Kaffir

Many have commented on the hysterical missive written by Moulitsas who lashes out at the vast rightwing conspiracy for outing his budding vast leftwing conspiracy.  People have commented on the unseemly enterprise of a supposed open, grassroots movement secretly collaborating with liberal and Democratic activists for message control.

I agree with a lot of the sentiments expressed, but a particualr phrase in his rant really caught my eye.  I'm surprised it hasn't caused a greater commotion.

By Proud Kaffir

Apparently, the heroic John Murtha wants to redeploy US troops out of Iraq, in order to form a rapid-response force that could effectively return, whenever needed.

This is somewhat like the police redeploying outside of a high-crime neighborhood because of the danger, while stating that law enforcement is now in a better position to deal with crime.  I am sure the criminals would be terrified that the frightened cops may return someday.

Posted at 11:41pm on Jun. 1, 2006 Poll: 86% Oppose Congressional Privilege Against Law Enforcement Searches

By Proud Kaffir

From the diaries...

According to a new ABC News Poll, 86% agree that the FBI should be allowed to search Congressional Offices with a judicial search warrant.  This includes 94% of Republicans and 78% of Democrats. (The 10% siding with Congress are probably the legislators themselves, their families, and the lobbyists who bribe them.)

Apparently the public is pratically unanimous in their indignation towards the arrogance of legislators who believe the laws they pass for us,  the lowly masses, should never apply to them.  The notion that Congressional Offices should be treated as 535 domestic embassies, with complete immunity from law enforcement and prosecutors, does not even remotely pass muster with the American people.

Posted at 10:11pm on May 24, 2006 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists Believe My Satire

By Proud Kaffir

On a previous diary entry, I wrote a satirical 9/11 conspiracy theory blaming the attacks on the Clintons.  My intention was not to make light of the tragedy of 9/11, but to respond to the ridiculous conspiracy theories being heralded around the internet in films like Loose Change.  I mimicked their logical fallacies to demonstrate the utter absurdity in their way of thinking.

Later, I was surprised to find that my mock CT was quoted and linked, in a positive manner, by Screw Loose Change, a good anti-conspiracy site.  But I was even more surprised to find that some of the CT'ers commenting on their site actually believed my CT was real, even though I clearly indicated it was satire and even after I logged on to state this directly to them. Posted at 1:19am on May 17, 2006 Loose Mental Screws: The Real 9/11 Conspiracy

By Proud Kaffir

I have no plans to view the conspiracy film Loose Change, in large part because I know the truth of what happened on 9/11, and they are way off the mark.  I plan to make my own film, Loose Mental Screws, once I acquire enough resources and do enough drugs.  In the meantime, I will let you all in on the truth but be careful: this information can get you killed or show others you are a complete moron.  Here goes:

You have sadly all been fooled, completely and utterly bamboozled.  It's been staring us right in the face all this time but only the enlightened, like myself, could see it.  The other conspiracy theorists are right that this was all an inside government job but are wrong as to the ones who orchestrated the attacks.  The real culprits are . . . the Clintons!

Sure, shake your heads but let's look at the facts.  The attacks would have taken years to plan and put together, with the wiring for explosives alone taking months in buildings that large.  This all had to be done without tipping the suspicion of the tens of thousands who worked in the towers.  Bush was in office a mere 9 months when this occurred.  How could he possibly have put together such a flawless operation in nine months?  He simply did not have the time.

The Clintons, however, had eight years to put together their plan and put the right people in the right places.  I know some conspiracy theorists say that a neocon cabal inside the governement planned the attacks for years but this is cutting the Clintons short.  Certainly they would not have allowed such infiltration under their watch.  They were the ones that placed people in key postions.  Richard Clarke ran the operation after they left office.

Why would the Clintons do it?  They did it in order to return to the White House under President Hillary Clinton in 2008.  They realized the public would support Bush and the GOP for the next several years clearing the field of potential Democratic challengers.  They also knew that eventually they could strip Bush of his support.  Notice that Bush had an approval rating of over 90% but now, as we get close to the lead-up to the Presidential race, he has dropped to 30%. Coincidence?

For the first four years, few people in the Bush adminsitration voiced criticism of superiors or leaked info, but now it's a daily occurrence as the Clintonistas follow their orders to tear down Bush. The FOB in the liberal press are now tearing Bush to shreds with everything they can muster. This is all carefully manipulated by the Clintons.

The biggest piece of evidence against the Clintons is Osama Bin laden himself who the conspiracy theorists have correctly identified as an American mole.  However, OBL first declared war on the US in 1995.  In order to believe Bush was behind 9/11, you have to believe that OBL started his operations in the hopes that the recently elected governor of Texas would sweep to re-election in 1998 and then take the White House in 2000.  This is absurd.

In 1995, Clinton faced the low-point of his presidency having lost the Congress and possessing dismall approval numbers.  Inspired by the 1993 WTC attacks, his war room enivsioned the full-scale terrorist attacks to boost his popularity for the 1996 elections; hence, the enlisting of the former CIA asset and fighter, OBL.  However, after the unappealing Dole was nominated, the plan was put in the back-burner.

Fast forward to 1998 as Clinton faced possible impeachment for Monciagate.  The plans for the attacks were resurrected but realizing the time constraints, they settled on the more modest plot to bomb two US embassies in Africa.  The Clintons were also weary of launching the attacks with so little time left in the Bill Clinton presidency as this would help Gore, a possible Hillary future rival.  They worked feverishly against Gore in the 2000 election, especially since they had plans for when Bush Jr. strolled into office.  The rest is history.

After Hillary gets elected, they will complete their devious plan.  Hillary will negotiate a peace in Iraq and then appear to wipe out al Qaeda and the Taliban.  Her popularity will soar as will the political power of the Clintons.

The beauty of this plot is that if people became suspicious they would blame Bush.  W wishes he had half the cunning deviousness of the Clintons.

Do I need to say this is all sarcasm?

My theory is just as valid, and possibly even more logical, than the absurd CT's going around.  These CT's are an insult to the many men and women who died on 9/11 and can even become dangerous in their own right.

Timothy McVeigh believed in conspiracy theories until he acted to fight back. We have enough to worry about with international terrorism without having to worry about some conspiracy-believing moron killing scores of public servants.  Shame on all those who spread these conspiracy theories.

Posted at 9:56pm on Apr. 4, 2006 How Dare They Depict Muslims as Terrorists?

By Proud Kaffir

Newsweek wants us to know that we, the American public, are not prepared for the movie United 93, a realistic portrayal of the heroic passengers who saved us from further bloodshed on September 11, 2001.  Newsweek and many of the liberal intelligentsia opine that we are simply not ready emotionally, and thus this movie should not be seen nor should it ever have been made.

Strange in that we were ready for Mikey Moore's Fahrenheit 911, Jody Foster's Flight Plan, George Clooney's Syriana, and Natalie Portman's V for Vendetta.  All of these movies dealt with terrorism at some level but in each case the evil ones were not the Islamic Terrorists, or other terrorists.  The evil ones were the leadership/ agents of the US government, fictitious parties clearly alluding to the US government, or the airline crews- even after so many tragically gave their lives doing their job on that day.

Posted at 11:09pm on Mar. 20, 2006 Lies, Damn Lies, and (MSM) Statistics

By Proud Kaffir

On the third anniversay of the Iraq war, the MSM keeps bombarding us with stories and statistics trying to compare this war to the carnage in Vietnam, trying to make us think that US soldiers are dying at an alarming number due to Bush's failures.

While every lost serviceman and servicewoman is certainly tragic and should be mourned, the actual statistics tell quite a different tale from the MSM and Democratic doom-and-gloom outlook. Comparing the numbers of lost US military personnel to past years, and past presidential terms, may even be a shock to supporters of the war.

Take a look at the actual US Military Casualty figures since 1980.  If you do the math, you wil find quite a few surpises.  First of all, let's compare numbers of US Military personnel that died during the first term of the last four presidents.

George W. Bush . . .  . . 5187  (2001-2004)

Bill  Clinton . . . . . . . . . 4302  (1993-1996)

George H.W. Bush . . . . 6223  (1989-1992)

Ronald Reagan . . . . . .  9163  (1981-1984)

Even during the (per MSM) utopic peacetime of Bill Clinton's term, we lost 4302 service personnel.  H.W. Bush and Reagan actually lost significantly more personnel while never fighting an extensive war, much less a simulaltaneous war on two theaters  (Iraq and Afghanistan).  Even the dovish Carter lost more people duing his last year in office, in 1980 lost 2392, than W. has lost in any single year of his presidency. (2005 figures are not available but I would wager the numbers would be slightly higher than 2004.)

In 2004, more soldiers died outside of Iraq and Afghanistan than died inside these two war zones (900 in these zones, 987 outside these zones).  The reason is that there are usually a fair number that die every year in training accidents, as well as a small number of illness and suicide.  Yet the MSM would make you think that US soldiers are dying at a high number in these zones, and at a significantly higher number than in past years or under past presidents.  This is all simlpy outright lies and distortion.

Taken all together, it is clear to see that the military is actually doing a fine job and suffering very low casualty rates.  It also shows that our enemies are not quite as efficient as the MSM and world press would like them to be.

It would seem that Bush and Rumsfield are actually doing a wonderful job in Iraq and, although there have been setbacks, the war is far from the tragedy the press wants us to believe.

Posted at 1:17am on Mar. 14, 2006 How Republicans Can Go on Offense

By Proud Kaffir

In politics, like in football, you are either on offense or defense.  If you are consistently on defense then almost certainly you are losing.

I think part of the problem with this Ports' debacle is that the President's red zone defense was just exhausted.  They've had to deal with Iraq, NSA, and the Cheney shooting, with the MSM looking under every rock for a scandal.  The Ports' deal was just a turnover deep in their own territory that they were too tired to defend against.

Now it's time to go on offense and the best way to do it is with good teamwork and proven high-probability plays, even if none of the plays gain you large chunks of yardage in one shot.

Frist's move to bring Feingold's ridiculous censure resolution to a vote was uncharacteristically brilliant for Frist and a good start. My suggestions to keep the momentum:

1) Pass legislation against online predators. Even if you despise the man, recognize that Bill Clinton was a great politician and steal a play out of his playbook.  Mired with low polls and having lost Congress, he went with non-controversial small-time policy positions. He even managed to take some of these small time issues, such as preventing children from smoking, and placed the Republicans on the defensive.

A big issue today is cyberpredators preying on children over the internet.  There has also been much angst over lenient liberal judges letting predators off with little punishment. Congress and the White House should work on legislation that takes aim at cyberpredators and lenient judges.  They could tie federal funds to some kind of mandatory minimums, spend more on enforcement, toughen penalties for soliciting children over the internet or for transmtting/downloading child porn, run educational programs, etc.

These are of course non-controversial positions (Who is going to come out in support of child predators?) but they could help the White House and Congress regain some footing. And the ACLU may just oppose some of the provisions, which would be a political gift to Republicans.

2) Investigate Google.  Apparently google is running a service to assist jihadists in their campaign for global domination.  This is not particularly good PR for Google since they've already taken a beating for doing censorship on behalf of the People's Republic of China.

Who does Google financially support politically?  Well, the Democrats, of course.  Let's shine a light on the treasonous Google and their Democratic patrons.  This will make Dubai Ports quickly pale and put pressure on Google. (Also, ask Feingold how we can monitor these private sites if we need to constantly find out who's online and obtain warrants?)

Additionally, Google has also been fighting the Justice Department's attempt to obtain generic search info to assist with battling child pornography.  Look at point number one and consider the possibilities.

3)  Make an issue of the cartoon jihad.  Some people in Congress should strongly object to the daily death fatwa's being issued against Western artists and authors by Muslim Imans.  Perhaps a Sense of the Senate/ Congress resolution should be offered.  This will place Republicans back on the right side of the security debate and also place the cowardly MSM on the defensive.

I may be am amatuer coach, but I believe these three suggestions can effectively turn the game towards the GOP's favor.

Posted at 11:50pm on Mar. 2, 2006 CBS Poll: No Republicans Found in America

By Proud Kaffir

In regards to the CBS News Poll that shows Bush's approval rating at an all-time low of 34%,  many people have accused CBS of deliberately skewing the results by only including 28% Republicans as opposed to 37% Democrats (weighted).  The unweighted results were even more lopsided with 27% Republicans and 40% Democrats.  I offered a different theory.  Perhaps many Republicans simply did not want to speak with CBS news, leaving the pollsters with a large underrepresentation of the GOP.

I have noticed a dwindling percentage of Republicans in CBS polls, probably for this very reason.  I began to imagine how a CBS news poll and accompanying story might appear in the near future:

CBS News Poll: No Republicans Found In America (CBS)- According to a recent CBS poll of 1003 random adults conducted over the weekend, only 3% of Americans identify themselves as "Republicans" (1% Unweighted).  Since this falls within the polls margin of error of 3.1%, the possibilty exists that there are currently no Republicans in the nation.  Prominent Republican leaders- the Republican President Bush, the Republican Senate Majority Leader Frist, the Republican House Speaker Hastert, and the Majority Republican Governors- did not immediately comment on this potentially disasterous showing.  The chair of the RNC also did not offer any immediate comments.  Could this be because these people do not exist?

Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi did state, "Our internal polls do closely mirror the CBS results.  We ask Republicans to immediately name a special prosecutor to investigate the question of their existence. We believe that strong evidence exists that their electoral successes have simply been spin and disinformation by Karl Rove and Sean Hannity."

CBS news will continue to follow this important story and analyze what this could mean for the upcoming political battles.
