We all know Senator John McCain. We know his positions and his words and his actions. We know what bills he has written, what bills he has backed, and what bills he has shepherded through the labyrinth into law. We know that in his thoughts and his words and his deeds, McCain is certainly not what any of us would call Conservative.

The World is suffering a major food shortage. We all know about it. We're all talking about it. A lot of us are blaming it on ethanol subsidies. It doesn't exist.
...Wait. That's not possible. People are going hungry. They can't get the food. It's not there to get, even aside from the usual political problems. There Has to be a food shortage.
...But, there isn't. There is plenty of food out there. We could feed the world. So why aren't we? Well, because the world can't afford the food. Inflation has struck harder in the agricultural markets than in recent memory. And it's happening to the worldwide market. Not just in the USA. Well, again, Why?

In my life, I have sworn many oaths. They have all been different oaths. They have all been the same. Their meanings change with my moods, my opinions, my knowledge, my maturity. They have never changed. The words differ with each oath. I have always said the same thing every time. I have sworn these oaths to different people. It has always been the same people demanding these oaths from me.

I don't really know what you would call me. Where I would fall in this debate. But I would like to take this time to explain my experience and my position on the issue.
When it comes to the question of abortion, I believe it comes down to the question of "When does life begin?"
I, personally, do not believe that it starts with conception.
I do, however, believe it has begun when the child can be born premature but alive. That leaves approximately 5 months of question.

No, for those to whom this may appear a joke, this is no snark. I am quite serious. And I am a fervent supporter of what was once called the doctrine of Total War.
Total War. A rather innocuous phrase, it seems. It has even become the name of a best-selling video-game series. But what is it, really?
I submit that it is no less than the only way to truly win a war. It could also, however, be termed Western Terrorism. For, like the prevalent forms of terrorism, it serves but 1 purpose. That is to convince the target population that continuing to fight a war against the followers of this doctrine is suicide. That to support those who wish war is more costly than to stand against those persons.

In this article in the local newspaper in my area, the Army made the front page in an unusual way. It was good news. A celebration, even, of Army efforts and the people who risk their lives for their nation.
Believe it or not, it was written from interviews with new recruits and recruiters who had not only NOT done wrong by their local community, but actually were doing well and proud of their ability to find qualified persons in their Areas of Operation (AOs).

I must say, my 23rd birthday is not the best I've ever had. My 21st may not have been the blowout everyone said to expect, but it certainly was a great deal better than today.
Today I reached for my wife when I woke up so I could celebrate my 23rd before I even opened my eyes. When I grabbed one of my dogs instead of her, I was reminded that she is now more than 500 miles away, undergoing Basic Combat Training for the US Army.

"I won't sign her death warrant!" the girls' mother told me when I approached her about her daughter's desire to enter the US Army Reserves. The girl is 17 and turns 18 in March and told me immediately afterward that she plans to sign on the dotted line the day of her birthday.
At the time I was somewhat speechless. How Does a young man like me, only 22 years old, married for 2 of them and with no children of his own respond to a mother who asks if I have children and, since I don't, how I can understand her fear for her daughter?
