Let's Just Assume

OK, Global Warming/Cooling/Climate Change/"What are we calling it this week?" Is happening. Cool. Gotcha. For the sake of a little critical thinking I will assume that it's for real.

So all you folks out there trying to convince us to ACT NOW TO SAVE THE EARTH AND OUR CHILDREN!!!! please take a few moments of your time to answer me a few questions:

1) What is causing it? ie: How is this happening?

2) What will be the human cost if left unchecked? (ie: How many will die?)

3) What can we, as Americans do, to affect it?

4) Who else in the world will actually put their money where their mouth is and help us?

5) How much will the "solution" cost us?

6) What will that do to our economy?

7) What will be the human cost of a foundering and/or crashed American economy on that scale? (ie: How many will we kill by acting?)

8) What can we do to adapt to our changing environment if we can't stop it from changing?

9) What will adapting cost us?

10) What will that do to our economy?

11) What will be the human cost of adapting? (ie: How many will die if we adapt?)

And now, the kicker:
12) What is best?
a. Letting the climate change unabated and not adapt
b. Attempting to prevent the climate from changing
c. Letting the climate change unabated and adapt ourselves and our societies to it.

Oh, and Quantify your arguments, if you please. "Lots will die." is not an acceptable answer.

Honest though. May be worthless, but at least it's honest.

Too bad you're not one of the local AGW cranks...

"Always be honest with yourself. Even if you are honest with no one else."

I have no answers. Only more questions.

"An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.“--Jeff Cooper. From Bill Coffey's collection of military quotations

But as you read in my explanation of the Scientific process in

We can only guess what will happen. Our models are only theories at best and incapable of giving you any if the numbers you are hoping for. That's why I continue living my air-conditioned SUV American life, refusing to be ruled by fear of the unknown. Maybe we are effecting the climate, there does seem to be a correlation, but whether we can do anything about it or not is unknown, as is whether our impact is the causal factor or just happens to correlate with the actual cause.
