Barack Obama lies about his father's story in his Selma speech

Barack Obama had an inspiring tale in Selma, to try and win one of the more irrelevant debates ever, about himself and the "black experience":

What happened in Selma, Alabama and Birmingham also stirred the conscience of the nation. It worried folks in the White House who said, “You know, we're battling Communism. How are we going to win hearts and minds all across the world? If right here in our own country, John, we're not observing the ideals set fort in our Constitution, we might be accused of being hypocrites.” So the Kennedy's decided we're going to do an air lift. We're going to go to Africa and start bringing young Africans over to this country and give them scholarships to study so they can learn what a wonderful country America is.

This young man named Barack Obama got one of those tickets and came over to this country. He met this woman whose great great-great-great-grandfather had owned slaves; but she had a good idea there was some craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided that we know that the world as it has been it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child. There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don't tell me I'm not coming home to Selma, Alabama.

But, let's actually look into the story here.

*Barack Obama, Sr. attended the East-West Center, set up in 1960 by the U. S. Congress and President Eisenhower.

*Selma happened in 1965, when Barack Obama was four, and after the death of John F. Kennedy.

*The 16th Street Baptist Church bombing happened in 1963, when Barack Obama was two.

*Barack Obama, Jr. was born in August 1961.

So basically Barack Obama was born in 1961 because his father got to go to school in 1960, due to a program approved of by "President Kennedy", in response to Selma, which happened in 1965.

In other words, Barack Obama has lied about his personal history, has probably lied about his personal history numerous times, and he is a serial panderer.

I don't doubt that Obama faced tough times while going to the wealthiest schools in Indonesia and Hawaii, and while attending Columbia and Harvard Law School. After all, attending leftist ivy league schools is something that we all can relate to, right?

If Barack Obama would lie about the reason why his father came to America, and what caused his parents to meet, it must make you ask "How many Lies has he told so far?"

Barack Harvard Obama is a paper lion. Plain and simple. The idiot media of Joe Biden-esque figures annoited Barack Obama because they just fawned over his Harvard-bred oration.

Once the media provides some scrutiny towards his record, expect someone to find lies in Obama's books, and in his background.

Without his story, Barack Obama is just an inexperienced socialist liberal and a lightweight in general.

Lying about his time before he was born. How dare he!

I have never seen a politician attacked so much for his childhood.

Seems to me that he is focusing on a message of unity and moving forward.

Certainly he references his upbringing as being core to how he developed as a person but he hardly focuses on his father or his childhood in Indonesia.

...or "Sir Edmund Hillary Rodham". Must be a flux capacitor in the Dems' alternate universe.

Link to speech here, by the way.

The Selma / Birmingham / civil rights bit? Rhetorical flourishes, fine. But he was either wrong or lying when he claimed that he's here due to the Kennedy Administration. If wrong - which I note is not something that you're actually arguing - he needs to correct and admit his mistake. If he's lying: well, just between you, me and the wall, I'm getting a little tired of Democratic politicians who would rather gnaw off their own leg than do anything that might challenge existing African-American stereotypes against Republicans.

Particularly ones who are trying to portray themselves as being better than that.

I'm not sure whether he was/is wrong or whether he was being deceitful.

If he was in fact wrong about his father then he should clarify. I agree.

I suspect he was just playing to the crowd and wasn't really worried too much about the details, which he should have been.

I'll wait to see what the details of his comment were before passing judgment one way or the other.

I understand your point. And I wish that Democrats wouldn't demagogue over racial issues. Then again I wish Republicans wouldn't demagogue over military matters. But such is life.

According to the NYT archives, Kennedy's program was announced on May 29, 1961.

His father couldn't have come over because of Kennedy's initiative, unless you want to suggest that he met Obama's mom, married Obama's mom and had a kid by her in three months.

Sooo... either mistaken or telling a lie. For his sake, I hope 'mistaken': but he needs to have the record corrected right away. So, you're going to contact the campaign, yes? I would, but I rather doubt that he'd listen to me.

Whoops! It's a lie: Obama himself wrote that his father came over in 1959. Then married his mother. Then had a child. Then participated in a second scholarship, which resulted in his parents' separation.

Dude, Kennedy didn't help Obama Senior get married: he contributed to the guy's divorce. :)

I'm one of those weird liberals who thinks about stuff.

Even if he was just mistaken, the whole thing gives me a James Frey sort of feeling. The story is almost completely reversed. The only thing that he didn't have backward was that he was born after his dad came to the U.S.

I can't imagine he'll make any further statements about it - even if an esteemed writer manqué like me were to contact his campaign. The press is letting him off, it seems.

That's almost a relief. I don't think I even want to know what he'd say.

But I bet the criticism here on RedState pales in comparison to the reaming he got from his wife for telling that story.

Not that my own wife ever did anything of the sort to me before I quit.

Nope, not at all.

Never.

His wife made him quit as a condition for running for President.
