Taxpayers Choice Act

Today, the Republican Leadership unveiled their Economic Agenda to help America’s middle-class. My bill, H.R. 3818, the Taxpayers Choice Act was the centerpiece of the agenda. With skyrocketing gas and food costs, our nation’s families are struggling to make ends meet. It’s time that Washington work to give real relief to our hard-working taxpayers and help them afford what their families need and want.
Millions of American taxpayers are dramatically affected by the burdensome Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), forcing them to send even more of their hard- earned money to Washington. I strongly believe that the AMT must be repealed and that taxpayers deserve a choice in filing their taxes. H.R. 3818 would give taxpayers the option of paying either higher tax rates with more deductions or lower tax rates with no special deductions, empowering taxpayers to choose an option that best fits their families’ needs.
The Taxpayer Choice Act (H.R. 3818), has three points:
1. Immediately, fully, and permanently repeal the current AMT;
2. Make permanent the current capital gains and dividends tax rates; and
3. Create a voluntary Simplified Tax that would give individuals the option of paying under a highly simplified income tax system or under the regular income tax as it is structured now.
It is important that Congress continue to work to see that families all across the nation get help to make ends meet. This Republican Economic Agenda is just one step to helping the struggling middle-class get back on their feet.
if you all continue to put forth bills such as this and drilling you will win seats and not lose them...Good Luck and full steam ahead!

most people aren't going to care about the House GOP's ideas when their actions are speaking louder than their words.
Let the President Veto Farm Bill 2 and all will be forgiven.
I will not forgive the GOP for Farm Bill I, II, III, etc., no matter what Bush does.
Bush is a lame-duck. The Congressional Republicans, most of them, are not. It's easy for Bush to veto a bill, now that he's leaving office in seven months.
I'll forgive the congressional GOP when they stop voting for the Farm Bill, any version.
That's what I ment about letting Bush veto the bill. If they stop voting for it, Democrats can't over-ride Bush's veto.
Not words, something with MEAT on it.
I like it. I think the ACP likes it!
This is a great bill and hopefully will see the light of day. Excellent work.

Excellent piece of legislation. Also, thank you for voting against the farm bill unlike the majority of your colleagues on the unfortunately-named "Fiscal Integrity Task Force".
It should have been repealed years ago. I think we all know that making tax breaks permanent will not fly at this point. I can understand the "want to" but the Ds ain't gonna let it happen. The ATM patch will likely always be there. If you push for fixing the ATM, at least you can tell the working class voters you did something for them. In the end, this will be just another example of a do nothing congress and the other guys are the blame, something American voters are sick of.

Not to mention Point 1 of the three bullet points of the Bill.

Because I get to vote for this woman every two years.
Seriously, you are one of the best in Congress Michele, and you'll be seeing me volunteering on your campaign as we get closer to election time.
I'll ask for two favors -
1. Kick those other GOP Congresscritters into doing what they should be doing.
2. Take Klobuchar's Senate seat in 4 years.
Now that we're all ecstatic at Congresswoman Michele Backmann's Taxpayers Choice Act, what exactly is the chance that this bill will ever see the light of day? It's great to see this kind of thinking, and I mean that. However, unless it's going to result in meaningful legislation, what's the purpose? Is this another one of those bills that we wish we could pass but then ends up in the House garbage heap?
I like it! Now, let's push it.
All well and good, but will you vote to replace the current leadership at the next caucus.
As long as the crop of "leaders" are in place we will be in the minority and your good work will be for naught.

Awesome work, Representative Michele Bachmann. I just wish this was done earlier.
