We Hear You Sderot!

Yesterday, residents of the Israeli community of Sderot organized a peaceful protest in Tel Aviv. Individuals set up tents in the Rabin Square to raise awareness of the continued rocket attacks they have been forced to endure. The protesters have already been visited by Israeli mayors and council heads, and more officials are expected to attend. The Sderot residents have pledged to continue protesting until they get the attention of local and world leaders. We hear you Sderot. Read more...

As stated in recent posts, I’ve cosponsored a resolution condemning the terrorists and the Governments of countries that have aided them in these attacks. These violent terrorists must be stopped and held accountable for their inhumane actions. Intelligence sources tell us that Iran and Syria have both provided the technical expertise necessary for Hamas to launch rockets. To make matters worse, since Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, Iran has augmented the terrorists' arsenal of Qassams with even more lethal rockets. This is scary and very disconcerting. When will the violence stop?

My bill, H. Res 951, has already gained large bipartisan support. There are currently 132 cosponsors, including the late former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Tom Lantos. Congress can’t waste anymore time, we must stand up for the victims in Israel by bringing this bill to the floor.

It is just as critical that the international community unite to support Israel in their efforts to fight terrorism. Together, nations must work to hold terrorist groups like Hamas accountable for their actions, to denounce their organizations, and to stop their flow of goods and supplies. I will continue to fight for the innocent civilians of Israel and I will not stop until the global community joins the U.S in condemning terrorism and its violent acts.

Shouldn't Rep Garrett's post be front page?

Fighting for conservatism one day at a time.

Congressman: When you re-edit your diary it pulls it off the front page, so please, after it's been promoted, contact us if you need further changes made to it.

Thank you!

It is nice that you have sponsored a Bill that has no effect, being only a Resolution ... it feels good.

I'm even happy that my neighboring Congressman, the Honorable Mr. Hensarling has also partnered with you on the Bill.

As comments above might indicate, the privilege of "revise and extend" is not as effective in the real world as it may be in the mystical halls of Congress.

As you have positions on the Budget and Financial Services Committees (only the latter having some control over International Finance), perhaps you can provide some real support to Israel.

I don't like Hamas, but they won a general election ... while they have long opposed Iranian interference (being more aligned with the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood), the acts of our Congress are pushing them into the arms of the mullahs.

Perhaps you and your compatriots should study the matter more deeply.

There's no freedom in the PA. Anyone who'd stood up against Hamas would have been gunned down before he stepped off his soapbox.

There's no requirement thatt he US treat them as any more legitimate than Saddam Hussein or Fidel Castro were.
