another dog bites man story-- streiff

Oh, and he's Debbie Stabenow's husband too.

The Detroit Free Press reports:

Police went to the hotel after a detective working on Internet-based prostitution at hotels in the city came across a solicitation for sex on a Web site, backdoor.com. Plainclothes detectives went to the hotel and set up a surveillance and watched Athans drive up, go inside and then leave about 15 minutes later.

Athans is a radio producer who's spent the past several years trying to launch liberal talk shows that could counter popular conservative radio programming.

Before starting his current firm TalkUSA Radio in 2006, Athans was the head of syndicated programming at Air America, the liberal network that declared bankruptcy that year. TalkUSA launched one syndicated talk show last year.

Athans has strong ties to Democratic Party officials and liberal activists; Sen. Hillary Clinton publicly acknowledged him during her speech in Detroit last month.

Is there something in the water? You know, between Spitzer, Mr. Athans here and the Governor's new insurance bureaucrat Butch Hollowell I'm starting to notice a perverse sorta pattern.
I don't very much care for Senator Stabenow or her politics but I sincerely wish her the best during what must now be one of the most difficult periods of her life.

Assuming 3 minutes to get unclothed and 4 minutes to get reclothed, that's just 8 minutes!!!! Dude! Buy a subscription to a website and get months' worth of 8 minutes worth of relief!

I'm probably overthinking this.

I hope at least he wasn't paying a "Kristen" type rate for whatever he got in those couple of minutes.

Which does say... something that I will refrain from typing out, or indeed, dwell on too greatly.

What's wrong with liberals these days?

First, Obamma rolls a 37 and now this? 8 minutes?

The Kennedy's must be ashamed to see how far their party has fallen.

LOL.

In the Kennedy's days, at least they got rid of the girls in underwater cars...where's the sense of discretion-Sheesh!

This is why, whether or not you need all of the 15 minutes, you certainly would not communicate that 15 minutes would have been sufficient.

Buy 3 hours. Pay for 3 hours. When you leave and get caught, focus on the 3 hours. "Yes. Three Hours."

Look in the camera and repeat it. "Three. Hours."

Have sins that make people think "Nice One!" rather than "(snicker)".

I've heard all week...As the locals say.... "5555"

Too funny. I'm still snickering.

And I guess at that rate, he *always* has time for a quickie. :>)

Now if his wife were a Republican, it would be in the news for the next two weeks.

Funny, we never hear that phrase "culture of corruption" anymore. Oh that's right: for liberal culture, this is just par for the course.

Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion

I have reached the point that these kinds of revelations about the personal failings of people just sadden me...to the point that I wish their personal lives weren't put on display for everyone to see their warts.

I guess it's news.

I like to see bad things happen to bad people.

I mean 15 min first of all, and the fact that well...family friendly site. But this gives me the giggles.

.45 Caliber Politics

Looks like politicians are finiding themselves victims of product failures. Must be those Chinese goods again. Maybe they need to have a zipper recall, given that so many politicians have problems with them coming undone at the wrong moment...........

I heard it on the X......

Don't forget Vitter. I quite frankly don't care about this stuff unless it involves the use of government funds.

Didn't he come clean with his wife before that became public (like a long time before)?

If my recollection is correct, then there is a pretty big difference.

Yah, he came clear like 8 or 9 years ago.

Like, say, a certain recently-inaugurated governor.

Now, spouses of elected officials, while inspiring no small amount of schadenfreude, really shouldn't be part of the public discourse... except, as this man did with his talk-radio aspirations, they inject themselves into the public discourse.

(Do you think she knew about this and maybe even preferred it?)

I knew law school was the wrong way to go.

But I bet the fee for scrawny 30-something white guys is not $450/hr. (Here in East Texas, lawyers don't charge that . . . yet)

Heck, it's pretty cheap if you know how to do it.

They get the plan pretty good in the movie "Varsity Blues."

TWEETER: Girls are just panty droppers. You give them two beers, a couple of vicoden, and a percocet, and the panties just drop.

MOXEN: Do you think you'll enjoy jail Tweeter?

TWEETER: I donno.

(Pause, Moxen walks away)

TWEETER: What?

I can't remember what happened after . . . .

Personally, I think it sounds more like a man bites cat story...

He looks much younger than Stabenow- is this a second marriage or something?

And after seing how their wives are- I can't really blame either Clinton or this moron either.

All the same, FIFTEEN MINUTES?!!!

This isn't the case of an elected official breaking the law. This isn't even a case of an elected official engaging in moral indiscretions or opening herself up to blackmail charges. This is about a woman's husband being arrested for solicitation of a prostitute. Wouldn't the decent thing to do here be to leave this story alone and let the couple deal with this on their own without the snarky comments and public ridicule? Sen. Stabenow has done more than enough to warrant defeat and should be held accountable for her extremely liberal record. Expressing any kind of satisfaction over something like this, though, is more becoming of Larry Flynt than of us.

"After two years in Washington, I often long for the realism and sincerity of Hollywood." -Fred Dalton Thompson

As a Libertarian, I am in 100% agreement with this. This ain't our business, public funds were not used, this was nothing more than a simple transaction between two consenting adults that should not even be illegal in the first place. Even as it is illegal, is there a single person on the planet who would argue that this would be the best use of a Michigan Policeman's time??? SERIOUSLY?!? She should just grab a knife and cut him a couple of times (not stab him, just cut him) and we can all move on.

However, I'm a happily married man who has been happily monogamous since my bride and I started dating. Stuff like this fills me with bile and I think that public mockery is the least we can do. Maybe the next person who thinks "hey, I should spend $150 for 15 minutes of enjoyment" will instead think "hrm, maybe I should just stay home and rub a couple out". Public condemnation is a perfectly appropriate response to crap like this.

But, once again, the Libertarian in me would like to point out that that such things should be illegal.

Just socially condemned.

Two people's lives have been ruined by this story, possibly three, and if there are kids in the family, it's going to be more. If he was an elected official or was using tax or campaign money, this would be fair game. Otherwise the decent thing to do is give them a little privacy.

The hooker at best will sign a modeling contract with an adult magazine, at worst she will be right back to her trade.

If Stabenow and her husbands "lives are ruined"? Wonderful. That's one less left-wing Senator and one-less "progressive radio" entrepreneur. I don't see the societal loss in those 2 lives being ruined. If anything, society benefits.

It's about another AirAmerica failure. I see no reason why that another AirAmerica failing should not be mocked.

We should lay off, no spouse deserves this. But Leno and Letterman are sure going to enjoy themselves.

Laugh, that's the answer.

It's not like this guy is a wallflower spouse, who just shows up at fundraising events. He's an activist and a player in the Liberal/Progressive community. He's just as fair game as Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity---or Bill Clinton for that matter.

I don't even know her. lol

or if he was the Democratic Governor of New York.

There's something about Democrats and hookers lately!

I laughed over this

Stabenow has to be one of the worse Dem Senators too and the fact she got free re-election ride is sad on MI GOP

Sheriff Mike Bouchard ran against her. The idiots voters of Michigan reelected her by a fair margin.

Has he not claimed already that he was interviewing her for a talk jock job?--No double meaning intended.

Will we soon hear calls to legalize prostitution?

Are the dems trying to get all the scandals out early in the election season & hope all's forgotten by November, or is it just happening?

Regardless of politics, I do feel sorry for Sen. Stabenow. I do wonder what comments she had regarding Sen. Vitter?

That's her husband?? Hahaha.

The senator looks like she could be his mom, haha. I hope that I'm not the only one who noticed/thought that.

She'd like for you to hush.

There does seem to be a familial resemblance, at that.

I wonder what their dog looks like.
