Flushing out the rats: Brewer admits involvement

Well that didn't take long.  Two days after we broke the news statewide Lansing insider publication MIRS seems to have finally received a call back from the committee that's openly and actively lying to Michigan voters to advance a parking-lot rewrite of the Michigan Constitution.

No longer is Harland Nye fronting the group... apparently the old chicken farmer didn't like the spotlight.

The mastermind behind the chronically deceptive plan to thoroughly gut the courts and scrap the Constitution?  Former Dem legislator Dianne Byrum and one Mark K(KK). Brewer.

No surprise, since the eight-page twelve column petition eliminates two GOP Supreme Court justices, strikes six GOP judges from the Court of Appeals and sets up the Governor for the long-term appointment of dozens of Berkley liberals to the circuit court.  The petition is what a friend of mine best described as a "head shot."  It'll be tough to get the signatures they need but if they do and the thing passes, law and order in Michigan are dead.  The complexion of the Michigan judiciary would be changed for the next fifty years.

Of course Byrum claims this is a petition drive with "strong bipartisan support."  Interestingly enough, when asked who her bipartisan financial backers were she declined to offer even a hint.  She and Brewer refuse to disclose who's putting up the estimated $2 million it's going to take just to gather enough signatures to make the ballot.

So where IS that money coming from?  I'm still betting on the Stryker name and the "Coalition for Progress."  The cash might be funneled through MDP or the Justice Caucus but it's got the militant gay special rights whacko's signature all over it.

My favorite part of the MIRS piece:

When asked if the petition, which printed out on eight 8-by-11 pages, was too unwieldy for voters to read, Byrum said, "Absolutely not."

"It's easily understood."

So easily understood that even her circulators have no idea what they're peddling.  Or is Byrum admitting that each of her paid gatherers are openly and actively lying when they talk about stopping immediate pay raises and preventing a new income tax hike?

Why then isn't she instructing her petition circulators to ask each potential signer to read all twelve columns of fine print before they fork over their John Hancock?  I mean, if it's easily understood.

Better question, why are we hearing story after story about folks being lied to from Mount Pleasant to Jackson to Grand Rapids, Owosso and Detroit?

The way this thing is being circulated stinks to higher heaven than the highly partisan, backdoor, court stacking content inside the fold out manifesto.

But it's not all bad news.  Brewer's now open support of this thing sends one signal loud and clear.  That $10 million he had to back an opponent to Cliff Taylor in this year's Supreme Court race?  Looks like it might be spent elsewhere now.  Guess that Marietta Robinson woman doesn't, ahem, float John Stryker's boat.

Your work is unfailingly excellent, RM. My goodness, Michigan's political landscape is such a cesspool.

Unfair. Unbalanced. Unmedicated. -- IMAO

Appear to have removed their training wheels and are now full fledged Chicago style politicians.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.
