By RightSideRedux
First, kudos to Utah Governor Huntsman who earlier this declared February as White Ribbon Against Pornography Month. Our friends at Communities for Decency deserve a lot of credit for seeing this through. Other Utah mayors followed suit. Mayor Mike Daniels of Pleasant Grove recently noted: "Pornography can and will destroy a nation, a state, a city, a neighborhood, a family and an individual if we do not fight it".

Posted at 11:26am on Jan. 24, 2008 Lawyers for Fred move to Mitt
By RightSideRedux
Promoted by Erick. This is one heck of a stellar list.
Today, Governor Mitt Romney announced new additions to the Romney for President Advisory Committee on the Constitution and the Courts. This group, chaired by Professor Douglas W. Kmiec, former constitutional legal counsel to President Ronald Reagan, has been advising Governor Romney on the important legal issues confronting the country today.
Joining Romney for President after having served as National Co-Chair of Lawyers for Fred Thompson, Victoria Toensing said, "Appointing strong judges is one of our President's most important responsibilities. The next President will make a number of appointments, and I am confident Governor Romney will nominate judges in the mold of President Bush's nominees, Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito. I am proud to work with Governor Romney and this outstanding group of legal minds."
Also joining the Advisory committee from Lawyers for Fred Thompson are Lizette D. Benedi, Rachel L. Brand, Reginald Brown, Charles J. Cooper, Joseph E. diGenova, Michael R. Dimino, Viet D. Dinh, Noel J. Francisco and Eileen J. O'Connor.
Eugene Scalia, who served in the administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, has also joined the committee. "Governor Romney has the ability, experience, and values to serve as an exceptional President," he said. "He appreciates the role of the courts and rule of law in our society."

Posted at 9:09am on Jan. 9, 2008 Time for a Romney 360°
By RightSideRedux
Please note I said 360° not 180°. A 360° is a business terms that denotes a post-project assessment. Whether your building a website, launching a product, or rolling out an partnership you always take a moment after a milestone to take a look at where you've been and evaluate where you are going. A 360° takes feedback from every player on the team and invites serious scrutiny from other players involved as well.

Posted at 12:20pm on Jan. 4, 2008 For Romney: Two out of Three Ain't Bad
By RightSideRedux
The first thing that political consultants look at when evaluating a local election is turnout. The question for the candidate is: does big turnout help or hurt you? In this case, big turnout hurt Romney, big.
There's no getting around the fact that second place in Iowa is not where Mitt wanted to be. Word on the ground is that we got out almost everyone we expected to get out to vote. But there were nearly 30,000 more people voting the GOP caucus compared to the caucuses in 2000. Those votes went overwhelmingly to Huckabee.

By RightSideRedux
I've been looking over the 2006 Senate race polls that Rasmussen did right before the election. On average, they were 2-3% points off... but all in all they did a pretty good job calling the state level elections. My gut feeling tells me that Rass. polls are leading indicators and that other polls will start showing the same trends shortly in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Those trends are:
- The Huckabust is indeed coming

Lisa Myers at NBC Nightly News reports on the case of one of the 12 murderers for whom Gov. Huckabee granted clemency: James Maxwell, the man who killed the Rev. Billy Bennett in

Posted at 11:03am on Dec. 17, 2007 Ruffini: Romney's Race to Lose
By RightSideRedux
Patrick Ruffini, former Rudy consultant and new media political guru, says: "I never thought I’d write that."
Ruffini's claim can be summarized thus:
- Huckabee and McCain are "flaky and/or can't win"
- Rudy is in trouble
- Huckabee has made Romney the Iowa underdog
- Huckabee hasn't a prayer after Iowa for New Hampshire
- McCain has a chance after Iowa but everyone knows he's the establishment

We noted last week that Thompson did not make the cut for the Deleware ballot.
Now, late breaking word that Fred failed to get the 300 Republican signatures he needed in DC.

By RightSideRedux
When we take on Mike Huckabee we will do so on his record and his actions as Governor.
This is not a pretty sight.
Beyond the Wayne DuMond case (paroled by Huckabee and went on to murder someone); Eugene Fields (DWI sentence commuted but re-arrested 3 years later after almost hitting a cop drunk); Samuel Taylor (granted clemency for drugs and theft only to go drug dealing again)... Mike has commuted serious murderers whose whereabouts are unknown:

By RightSideRedux
Reactions to the Romney Speech are overwhelmingly positive. Below is a quick sampling.
Reactions to Romney's speech continue, in the morning papers, in the Corner, around the blogosphere, in my e-mailbox, etc. The upside for Mitt Romney is that indeed, he has managed to command the spotlight for an entire week in a way that few candidates have in this campaign. And while some people were more impressed with the speech than others, there aren't many people saying, "he flopped."

Call on the historical morality of the American Republic |
"There are some who may feel that religion is not a matter to be seriously considered in the context of the weighty threats that face us. If so, they're at odds with the nation's founders, for they, when our nation faced its greatest peril, sought the blessings of the Creator. And further, they discovered the essential connection between the survival of a free land and the protection of religious freedom. In John Adams' words: 'We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.' 'Our Constitution,' he said, 'was made for a moral and religious people.' |

Point out the deep-rooted connection between freedom and religion
|
"Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom. Freedom opens the windows of the soul so that man can discover his most profound beliefs and commune with God. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone." |

Affirm that religious leadership has no influence on policy |
"Almost 50 years ago another candidate from Massachusetts explained that he was an American running for President, not a Catholic running for President. Like him, I am an American running for President. I do not define my candidacy by my religion. A person should not be elected because of his faith nor should he be rejected because of his faith.
