Has anyone else heard or read about this? I think the stories speak for themselves. On one hand, I wouldn't have a problem with this, if it wasn't hypocritical. On the other hand, it just moves us closer to that "one region" we've been hearing about.

By rjd27
I don't have a winner in this election. It is becoming clearer, as the primary season winds down, that on the right, for those of us that believe in Conservative ideals, it is no longer about the presidency, but about the Conservative Brand.
I am aware of what is at stake this year. But what is at stake next year? And the year after that? What would a McCain presidency mean to the Conservative movement? If the worst I thought McCain would be is neutral to the Conservative cause, then I would probably vote for the man. He is a hawk, at least. If I knew he would do no damage...

By rjd27
How long did it take the United States to form a government – one that worked and was lasting? 6 years, one rebellion (Shay’s). Even with a Constitution and a President, the American people still had to learn what it meant to be a Democracy. Hell, the rest of the world had to learn what it meant as well. Only two years after George Washington was sworn in, he led the militia to put down the “Whiskey Rebellion” in Pennsylvania. Would the U.S. be around now, if it had had to meet benchmarks set by France or England?

By rjd27
I’m probably not the best writer or politically engaged enough to do justice to what I’m about to write. But I’m going to try.
What does it mean to be Republican? What does it mean to be Conservative? And what does it mean to be a Conservative Republican?
It is this last question that is causing the current dissatisfaction between elected GOP politicians and their constituents.
These questions came to mind as I was reading the posts “Who are the bad guys again?” and “Trent Lott is not your friend”.

The pessimist in me has been whispering quietly that 2008 may be the election to sit out. But, my practical side keeps reminding me, that if I don’t vote, I can’t complain or whine when those elected leaders go about their business. What it comes down to, is who do I vote for? Hell will freeze over before I vote Democrat. But, the Republican Party isn’t producing the leaders I want either (personal note: I’m not a politician, nor do wish to be. I volunteer for the local candidates in my city and county and am active in my county’s Young Republican club).

Posted at 10:15pm on May 6, 2007 How to lose elections
By rjd27
Maybe the times of changed so much, that this isn’t true anymore – though I’d sure as hell like to see it in practice…
If Conservatives, represented by the Republican Party, want to win elections, then as candidates, run as a Conservative. Not a moderate. Not center-right. A Conservative: Individual freedom, strong military, low taxes, pro-life, gun rights, property rights, constructionist judges. This works. This is why Liberals and Democrats run to the center during an election and present themselves as moderate or even Conservative. The American voter wants Conservatism. When a Liberal moves to the center, they move toward Conservative principals. When a Conservative moves to the center, they start sounding Liberal. This should be evident. But Republican candidates have yet to understand this, or if they do, they are not Conservative.

Tell me, what does it mean to shut down a campus? Once the Norris Hall murders happened, the campus was “shut down.” I’ve been curious to see a true description of what that means.
How should the off campus students be handled? Are they sent home or corralled into the basketball arena?
Are classes canceled for the day? And if so, how are the students moved to “safe zones?”
Are all campus businesses – bookstore, student union, eateries, etc., closed?
