SOTU - Bush Shows Hypocritical Partisanship At Its Worst

The President gave a decent speech Monday. He really did.

It was obvious he was looking to go out with a bang and give the pundits something to really talk about for quite some time.

"Mission Accomplished", George

During the speech Bush threatened to veto any budget that didn't have a 50% reduction in earmark spending. That drew a standing
"O" from the GOP while the Dems sat on their hands.

They had every right to do so. If they were offended, they should have been. They had already done it and Bush tried to make them out to be the bad guys.

You see, under the GOP controlled 109th Congress, earmarks were at about 29 billion dollars. Under the Democrat controlled 100th Congress, earmarks for this year are at 14 billion dollars. Do the math, that's half! Talk about a pre-emptive strike! They carried out the orders before they were given!

What upsets me is the Liberals stole our fire and did a very Conservative thing! Oh, by the way, when the Republicans gained control of Congress, earmarks were not even 7 billion. That means that the GOP, who we rely on to be Conservative, did the very Liberal thing of spending like a drunken sailor (with apologies to the drunken sailors).

Earmarks have GOT to stop, on that I agree with Bush. What I will say to Bush is the old cliche..."Too little, too late!"

Your veto pen should have come out 7 years ago when you could have shown the courage to put America in front of partisanship.

As with so many other things in your Presidency, you failed.
