By romney08
My brother just left for Iraq. I've vented, argued, and ranted about whether democracy is compatible with Islamic nations, whether any degree of success can be achieved in Iraq, and whether it is worth the cost of American lives.
Having a family member serve in Iraq has made it that more personal.
There's nothing I want more than for him to come home safely, and soon as well.
But let me say it here: I will never agree with, sympathize with, hold similar points of view, or stand on the same sidewalk as the gutter trash who protested General Petraeus in the hearing.

I'm not sure whether the Boston Globe should be ridiculed for this as well, but the comments at Kos about this beautiful terrorist prose do deserve special recognition.
And to think all of the Democratic presidential candidates just spoke at "Yearly Kos(!)".
The inmates are truly running the asylum.
Check out this inspiring gem from a captured jihadist:

Posted at 12:27pm on Jun. 28, 2007 Immigration Bill Suffers a Massive Defeat (!) - Fox News (UPDATE: NOT EVEN CLOSE)
By romney08
46-53 in favor of cloture.
Any RedStater's in DC up for celebrating tonight?
Talk about people powered politics, how about crashing the Senate phone line?
The NutRoots can prevent debates from taking place on Fox News all they want, let's see them match this.

Posted at 2:35am on Jun. 8, 2007 "A victory for sanity in this country" -Senator Jim Demint
By romney08
Senator Demint's take on the failing of the immigration bill could not have been sweeter: "A victory for sanity".
(And as a reminder to RedStaters, he did endorse a candidate for 2008)
The whole Tom Tancredo approach to immigration reform has turned me off, as have many conservatives who have wanted to "Throw the Illegals in Jail!" (see comments on main RedState immigration thread). God forbid Tom has to dial 1 for English. Someone call the whambulance please.

I'm curious, because when I try to click on his account now, it says "access denied".
I called troll this morning, and if I was wrong, I want to apologize.
Thanks!

Posted at 10:03pm on May 24, 2007 John Edwards would make Howard Dean look like a dream candidate;
By romney08
Did anyone see this snippet from Bob Shrum's new book on John Edwards? (H/T The Corner) This is so bizarre it's humorous.
***
Bob Shrum, the famed consultant to a string of failed Democratic presidential candidates, including Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004, seems determined to embarrass his former client and current presidential hopeful John Edwards in the forthcoming book "No Excuses: Confessions of a Serial Campaigner," the New Republic's Michael Crowley writes at www.tnr.com

Posted at 10:03pm on May 21, 2007 I think McCain's comment about Romney's "Varming-hunting" was funny
By romney08
I say this as a pretty much blind Romney troll:
McCain's quote of
"Maybe he can get that small varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his yard" was pretty humorous. And I don't think it was out-of-place, providing he has an actual defense of his indefensible bill that he just didn't get to at that time
And Romney should respond with something along the lines of, "That's an appropriate suggestion from the grumpy old man who always yells at the D*@& Kids to stay off his lawn!".

Posted at 7:58pm on May 21, 2007 To Arms RedStaters! We shall now invade DailyKos! [Edit-see Erick's note]
By romney08
**********************************
So it turns out that I was presumptuous. It wasn't a mass conspiracy of Daily Kossers blasting Thompson, Rudy, etc., but it was ONE PERSON!
To the Daily Kos Community: My bad!
But what's more noteworthy, is the fact that ONE PERSON(!) has gotten 12 (?) or so usernames on RedState to bash conservatives.
What kind of person does that? Good Heavens!

Posted at 2:05pm on Apr. 15, 2007 "52 Percent of Iowa GOP favor pulling all U.S. troops out of Iraq within six months."- Wash Post
By romney08
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/14/AR200704...
"Even among GOP faithful, though, the poll found disenchantment with Bush. Among likely caucus-goers, 77 percent said they do not see Bush as a "conservative Republican in the mode of Ronald Reagan." And 52 percent favored pulling all U.S. troops out of Iraq within six months."
This is incredibly disturbing. I'm almost sure that this is a higher percentage that favors complete withdrawl in six months than among the general public, or at least a comprable one.

Posted at 6:14pm on Mar. 5, 2007 The difference between change and flip-flopping concerning Romney.......
By romney08
Acknowledging that Mitt Romney has changed most, if not all of his social political views, I still feel that it is fallacious and inaccurate to classify him as a flip-flopper.
This will start with the presupposition that political flip-flopping is defined by the actions of Senator Kerry in 2004. If the term was as well known before that, it is beyond me, and please correct me if it is more applicable to Romney.

Posted at 2:34am on Mar. 3, 2007 I'm calling it first: Sister Souljah Moment for Romney
By romney08
My prediction : in the next two days, Mitt will give a speech condemning Ann's remarks regarding John Edwards.
"There is no place for those kind of degrading and offensive comments in todays political discourse......blah blah blah"
It will be his "Sister Souljah'" moment, and cement the momentum he achieved at CPAC. In fact, this is almost too convenient. Ann might even be in on this.

Posted at 2:53am on Feb. 27, 2007 Global Warming: One of us is Crazy
By romney08
Al Gore won an Oscar for his documentary about global warming, which I believe was titled ‘Chicken Little’. I remember talking to my friend Dumpster on Oscar night, remarking to him incredulously that, “the scary thing is, I think there may be some people who actually believe in man-made global warming”.
Then I thought about it, and realized that the entire scientific community, the media, almost all of academia, anyone I respect, and gosh, the majority of the world believe in man-made global warming.

By romney08
Who says the left isn't patriotic? If you don't feel like being depressed, skip this, but here's a rich diary from Daily Kos that is too precious to not re-post.
This is why we can't let these people win any more elections.
What would be comprable to this for someone on the right to publish? I can't even think of anything.

Posted at 3:26pm on Feb. 5, 2007 Is it time for a Mormon in the White House? Part I
By romney08
No. Categorically, unequivocally, and unconditionally, no. It’s not that time. It is also not the “time” for an African-American in the White House, or for a Woman in the White House, or for a Man, or a Baptist, or an Evangelical. The question is flawed; it presupposes that at a certain period of American history it will be the set “time” for a person from a special group (Black, Latino, Catholic, Jew, etc.) to attain the Chief Executive Position.
