By roywood

This is perhaps one of the most disturbing stories I have read in some time. The Yale Daily News is reporting a senior art major who has chosen an "art" project that rivals the highly controversial "Piss Christ" in both it's controversy as well as it's stretching thin what passes as art.

This first paragraph of the story should sum it up for you:

Art major Aliza Shvarts '08 wants to make a statement.

Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.

It almost seems criminal to me to intentionally impregnate oneself for the sole purpose of terminating pregnancy.

Posted at 4:12pm on Dec. 20, 2007 The makings of a David Letterman top 10 list

By roywood

So I got the email today about Drew Edmondson wanting to ban Christmas and it got me thinking. How is the concerned government employee to report such a violation without being in violating him or herself? He or she who aspire to rid America of all that could possibly be offensive is faced with a real dillema. It is not as if that person can go up to their supervisor and say "so and so just said Christmans in violation of Edmondson's law." The whistleblower is now as much of an offender as the original sayer.

Posted at 7:04pm on Aug. 16, 2007 Orwell was right!?

This story today by Newsweek reports that “'Specially trained security personnel' will be watching passengers for 'micro-expressions' that will reveal treacherous agendas and insidious intentions at airports around the country. These agents, who may literally hold your fate in their hands have been given a lofty, Orwellian name: 'Behavior Detection Officers.'"

No, really, Behavior Detection Officers.

Posted at 2:51pm on Jul. 30, 2007 Heckler shouted down by Hillary sheep

By roywood

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2007/07/28/vo.hillary.protesto...

When I saw this video of a heckler/demonstrator/whatever being shouted down at a speech by Hillary a passage from George Orwell's Animal Farm came to mind. Instead of college Democrats shouting "Hillary, Hillary!" I see sheep loudly proclaiming "Four legs good, two legs bad!"

Posted at 6:55pm on Jul. 19, 2007 Sicko - shading the truth (i.e. lying) and the suprise reporting by Reuters

By roywood

Michael Moore is back to his old ways once again it seems. Not that anyone should be surprised. It seems that he conveniently chose the most extravagant hospital to film the movie Sicko (and apparently the only one not about to fall in on itself). Reuters reports:
"The 9/11 responders [who appear in the movie] spent 10 days on the 19th floor of Cuba's flagship hospital with a view of the Caribbean sea, a sharp contrast to many Cuban hospitals that are crumbling, badly lit, and which lack equipment and medicines."

Posted at 5:48pm on Jul. 10, 2007 Live Earth hypocrisy - the proof is in the video

Try to ignore the more important story about whether Madonna was really playing the guitar...

I realize the hypocrisy of Live Earth is lost on no one here at Redstate. And I know that this is probably belaboring the obvious, but I found it almost humorous in this video when Madonna spoke at the beginning about conserving energy. This while mega screens flashed a light show behind the "Queen of pop" and amplifiers as large as buildings blasted her less than excellent music.

Posted at 1:43pm on Jun. 19, 2007 Because it works so well for Mexico

By roywood

According to this news story http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070619/D8PRLSMG0.html NYC will be giving the poor financial incentives for doing everyday things like going to the doctor, keeping a job, etc. Now, to Bloomberg's credit he is doing this with private monies rather than tax dollars. However, Bloomberg traveled to Mexico to study their "lifestyle payments, also known as conditional cash transfers." But, aren't Mexico's poor leaving the Country to find the "American dream?" In other words, is the program in Mexico really working? I would say not if the poor are still leaving in droves.

Posted at 3:37pm on May 29, 2007 Hillary really is a communist (this is no conspiracy theory)

By roywood

This is a scary news story:
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070529/clinton_economy.html?.v=1

Notice how Hillary infuses her entire argument with what the government can do. I love these lines especially: "There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed," she said. "Fairness doesn't just happen. It requires the right government policies."
