But I thought everybody hated us.

To listen to Hillary and the Democrats, we have no friends left in the world. Hillary is running saying that she will return America to the respect and standing that it had during her first administration.
The visit this week from France’s new president is an astounding turnabout. France is our new best friend! How did this happen? The French have hated America for years. Certainly the evil George Bush couldn’t have had anything to do with France and America becoming friends again!
Could it be that France has seen that a partnership with America could help them fight terrorism, that working with the United States would be in their best interest?
I’m sure that the French love the Clintons. They are great party buddies. The Clintons share their values. However, when it comes to fighting terrorism, the Bush administration is the one to cozy up to. Missile defense would be a great thing for Europe. Bush wants this for Europe and the Democrats don’t.
What an irony. France finally loves America and the Democrats continue to hate America. What will it take for Democrats to join France and finally be on our side?

the press and the glitterati in France are much like their counterparts in America -- to wit, a privileged class of idiots that hate America. Therefore we (in the US) probably assumed that the average Frenchman on the street hates us, since that';s what all the French elite were saying.
Also, it could be that those Muslim riots last year woke some people up and reminded them exactly where their bread is buttered.

I have spent a fair amount of time in France and in other European countries. I was forced to realize that the French are actually the most friendly people in Western Europe. There are always exceptions, but I never have seen so many go out of their way to help a wayward traveller, and that was NOT what I was expecting. I have confirmed this theory many times btw. My point is this, their is no chance that average Frenchman "hates" America. At worst, they envy us and want to challenge us for supremacy, re. they are the most like us, they think they are the model for others.
Anyway, I always laughed at untravelled liberals who thought France was on their side during Iraq. France laways ignores the UN, this is the country that bombed and sunk a Greepeace boat! The liberals only supported France because the crook Chirac was our enemy, they only love our enemies, they are so predictable.
France will always be a pain in the butt politically because they think their culture is preimmenent, just as we do. We have the reality behind us, but you have to admire their chutzpah.

Always suspected (deep down) that regular French people weren't quite like the caricature.

Nothing short of complete Democrat control of all branches of government!

Another 9/11 would probably get them on our side.
For a week or two.

without learning to hate our country. And in so many places you can't get Fox.
"France finally Loves the US, but the Democrats still hate it"
Unfortunately its way too long.
I wish someone would challenge Hillary to compare and contrast herself with Benazir Bhutto for leadership ability. I think Pakistan has its own "Iron Lady," possibly tougher than most if not all current candidates for the US presidency.
Or maybe as Mark Levine suggested, get her to run for president of Venezuala. People would be hard pressed to notice the difference (aside from the fact that Hillary's more masculine).

the irony of this country moving left while France and Germany move right is astounding. I do believe that poor education over decades and unfettered immigration are the reasons, but the "highly educated" left wingers lead the parade.

President? Why stop there? I say we change Bill's name to Louis and her name to Marie and we send them over there to be King and Queen!

Marie Hill and Louis Bill could rule all of Europe. That would satisfy their egos and get them out of our hair.

Anti-American demonstrations in Europe are nothing new and nothing alarming.
As part of an effort to learn Italian, and in no small part inspired by a suspicion that the American press was slanting its reporting on the European response, I started reading some Italian blogs back around the same time went to war in Iraq.
While there was a fair amount of moonbattery, there was also a lot of pro-american sentiment. The best response I read was along the lines of "the socialists can march around the square and yell 'Down with America' just as they have every week for the last 60 years, but I and my family know who our real friends are". It's a shame I'm not more proficient with the language because it was downright poetic (as are most insults in Italian).
Of course, if your primary measurement of American success is how much people like us, then 9/11 was a shining moment in American foreign policy. Personally, I'd just as soon we continue to avoid being that popular again.

I appreciate that kind of effort to learn both a language and a people's sentiments because I try to do the same. In my relationships with people in other countries, I find pretty much everyone in the world wants all the good things in life and has some basic appreciation of how those freedoms are afforded.
the scoreboard now stands at:
Bush, Blair, Howard, re-elected.
Chirac, Schroder, Martin, gone and replaced with Sarkozy, Merkel, and Harper.
the only loss, to Spain's eternal shame, is Aznar.
those Bush lapdogs just keep getting elected!
foreign policy to stand with France, not the USA. Yet France has a conservative in power who loves the USA, i find that delicious.
Molon Labe!
Unfortunately, Howard is behind in the polls by some margin with only 2 weeks to go. His opponent is not anti American, though (his biggest claim to fame internationally so far is eating his own earwax).
So can we order French Fries again or are they still Freedom Fries?
has changed back to French Fries from Freedom Fries, so I guess it's official.

mainly because BUSH gave them time to love us by staying !!
