MORNING UPDATE:
140 Days
until Election Day
June 17, 2008
MORNING UPDATE:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEWT GINGRICH....all our best to a great
American. Thanks for all you do!
WEB AD GETS
NATIONAL ATTENTION....our "home grown" web ad about Obama FINALLY
finding Michigan was mentioned and linked to by several national
media outlets. This ad was produced by out "in house"
communications staff! Way to go MRP!!!
GRAND RAPIDS...DETROIT AND MANY PLACES IN BETWEEN...as we responded
to Barack Obama's statements and visit to Michigan. We're SO glad
he finally found us.
In the mean time, we joined U.S.
Senate candidate Jack Hoogendyk, Congressmen Walberg, Ehler,
Hoekstra and McCotter on events across the state. Congressman
Rogers led a conference call on energy prices and how we "can" pay
less for gas.
GORE PROPOSES ELIMINATION OF THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION
ENGINE...NOMINATED FOR A SECOND NOBEL PRIZE...OK, that part is a
joke...but Obama's assault on Michigan's middle class
continues. I can think of no one more hostile to Michigan's
homebred domestic auto industry than Barack Obama, except, maybe,
Al Gore.
First, Obama comes to Michigan and insults our automakers. Then he
goes to San Francisco and the East Coast and brags about insulting
our automakers. Now he comes back to Detroit to rub our faces in it
again, this time with Al Gore in tow. I'm half expecting them to
declare war on the internal combustion engine next.
MARKET BASED REFORMS NEEDED IN HEALTH CARE...to allow us to better
serve our citizens. I penned an op-ed piece that appeared in
this weekend's Detroit Free Press where I argued for companies to
be allowed to have more flexibility in providing programs for their
employers. Read it
here.
THE NEW MRP WEB AD ON OBAMA...is up and you can view
it here. This ad was created to remind Michigan voters that
when they wanted to hear from Barack Obama, he took every
opportunity to thumb his nose at them. He refused to campaign here
during the primary, he insulted our homegrown auto manufacturers,
and he called us bitter because we go to church and like to hunt. I
don't know who's advising Obama, but I am sure those things are not
the top-three ways to win Michigan. Someone who can make such
flippant comments certainly doesn't have the experience or
leadership to be our next commander in chief.
METERED INTERNET A BAD IDEA...companies
are pushing a proposal to charge you a surcharge on your Internet
usage. Today we pay a flat fee for bandwidth and use as
we please. BEWARE of metering internet...a challenge to net
neutrality is next. Internet usage is growing...not
shrinking...options are expanding...some of these providers want to
limit your options, products or make you buy these service from
them...therefore limiting creativity and consumer choice. Its'
about market share.
STEALTH PETITION DRIVE EXPOSED...a new petition is being circulated
that completely re-writes the constitution. Our YouTube video
released last week cautions voters about a stealth petition
drive to wrest control of state's courts out of the hands of
ordinary citizens and hand it over to ambulance-chasing injury
lawyers...and more. We are in the process of getting an analysis
done of all the details buried in pages of fine print. Please be
careful and read it before you sign it.
DRILL HERE...DRILL NOW...PAY LESS...sign the petition to force
Congress to act. We have huge reserves all over America and
can do this responsibly. Please sign the
petition and forward it to 5 friends.
SLATECARD...AN
EASY WAY TO CONTRIBUTE TO OUR FRIENDS...Slatecard was designed
to allow easy, online way to contribute and support our candidates
for federal office. Please take a minute to check it
out...and hopefully help.

Sen. Barack Obama
brought his historic campaign to ground zero of the Rust Belt on
Monday, asking 20,000 supporters at a raucous rally at Joe Louis
Arena -- where he was endorsed by Al Gore -- to join him in his
crusade of hope and faith.
Obama tells rally
he'll revive Detroit automakers
By COREY
WILLIAMS-The Associated Press
DETROIT (AP) - The
message came across very loud and crystal clear to about 20,000
people in Detroit's Joe Louis Arena: It is time for a change in
America and Barack Obama will be the architect.
Britain joins Bush in pressuring Iran
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave a ringing endorsement of
President Bush's pro-democracy agenda in the Middle East, and said
he will increase British troop levels in
Afghanistan.
U.S House leadership not hit by slump
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, one of the wealthiest
members of Congress, and her real estate magnate husband, Paul
Pelosi, spent between $1 million and $5 million to buy the home
they had been living in on San Francisco's Broadway. They also own
a vineyard in St. Helena, Calif., worth between $5 million and $25
million and a town house in Norden, Calif., valued at between $1
million and $5 million, according to annual financial disclosures
released Monday.
McCain: Let States Decide on Offshore
Drilling
By Michael Falcone New York Times
Updated ARLINGTON, Va. - With the price of gasoline surging past $4
a gallon in many parts of the country, Senator John McCain called
today for the lifting of the federal moratorium on offshore oil
drilling for states that want to permit it.
PRUDEN: Not dead yet, and cooling
We were all supposed to be dead now, done in by AIDS, the gift of
the gays. After that it was SARS, bequeathed to the world by China.
Then it was avian flu, which, to be fair to the alarmists, did in
fact result in the deaths of millions.
Is McCain Like Bush? It Depends on the Issue
A look at Mr. McCain's 25-year record in the House and Senate, his
2008 campaign positions and his major speeches over the last three
months indicates that on big-ticket issues - the economy, support
for continuing the Iraq war, health care - his stances are indeed
similar to Mr. Bush's brand of conservatism. Mr. McCain's positions
are nearly identical to the president's on abortion and the types
of judges he says he would appoint to the courts. On the
environment, American diplomacy and nuclear proliferation, Mr.
McCain has strikingly different views from Mr. Bush, and while he
shares the president's goals in Iraq, he was at times an outspoken
critic of the way the war was managed.
The 12 Page Gutting of the
Constitution
The signs are mixed, but the petition itself sure is
dangerous. It changes dozens of sections of the Constitution,
in a process call "log-rolling". It takes 12 pages of fine print to
finish its brutal gutting of our current Constitutional
protections.
Candice Miller backs Silver Alert for seniors
Six out of 10 patients who suffer from Alzheimer's or other
dementia-related diseases will wander away from their homes or
caretakers, sometimes with dire results. But federal lawmakers are
pushing for the Silver Alert Grant Program Act, a program that
would provide funding for states to develop a notification system
that would do for missing seniors what Amber Alert has done for
missing children.
