In yet another incident showing Barack Obama's inability to hold a position, he now announces Iran to be a "Great threat," after it test fired nine missiles. In an interview this morning on Good Morning America, Barack said:
"Iran is a great threat. We have to make sure we are working with our allies to apply tightened pressure on Iran,

In an interview this week with "Relevant," a Christian magazine, Obama said prohibitions on late-term abortions must contain "a strict, well defined exception for the health of the mother."
Obama then added: "Now, I don't think that 'mental distress' qualifies as the health of the mother. I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term."

Posted at 2:05pm on Jul. 2, 2008 Minnesota Senate - Will Jesse Run?
By Shoebox
On July 1st and for the next 2 weeks, the window to file is open, should one want to be on the November ballots. The MN media is now atwitter as it tries to read the tea leaves to determine if Jesse Ventura will file to run for the US Senate seat against incumbent Norm Coleman and Dem endorsed Al Franken.
In this interview by the Rochester, MN ABC affiliate, Ventura's former campaign manager, Dean Barkley pontificates on whether Ventura will run, the issues he will face and his prospects for the race.

In early June, as the debate over rising gas prices was heating up, Barack Obama was quoted as saying:
I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing.
The "Greenest convention ever" is touting their 450 vehicle fleet of cars, 20% of which will be E85 vehicles. Even though the host city is far behind in their fundraising efforts, they convinced Coors to kick in the fuel for the E85 vehicles.

I wrote yesterday about the likelihood of a dramatic increase in corn prices due to the damage done by the floods.
I found this article today, where a commodities analyst is claiming that due to the crop loss from the flood, corn could go to $16/bushel.
What????? It wasn't that long ago that corn at $4/bushel was nearly laughable. Today, corn futures have moved to over $7.90/bushel.

Posted at 10:15pm on Jun. 9, 2008 I'm Not The Al Franken I've Known For 57 Years
By Shoebox
Promoted by Dan McLaughlin.
From Al Franken's "apology" for various anti female and porn "satires" given at the Minnesota Democrat convention on Saturday:
It kills me that things I said and wrote sent a message ... that they can't count on me to be a champion for women, for all Minnesotans. I'm sorry for that. Because that's not who I am," Franken told delegates.
Does anyone else notice a similarity here?
Barack Obama at an April 29th press conference:
The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago.
Now it's bad enough when you're surprised by the behavior of someone you've intimately known for 20 years but how bad must it be when you don't recognize yourself after 57 years?
Is there some kind of a "How to make an excuse" handbook being handed out this year by the DNC?

Posted at 9:36pm on May 29, 2008 Yup, and Roseanne Barr sounds just like Maria Callas!
By Shoebox
I didn't see the interview but according to Jonathan Martin, Scott McClellan indicated that he hadn't decided who to vote for this year but was "intrigued by Obama's Message."
According to Martin, McClellan further said, "It's a message that is very similar to the one that Gov. Bush ran on in 2000."
I wonder what part of Bush's 2000 campaign message that McClellan finds similar to Obama's? Could it be...
Bush's strong prolife stance? Nope, Obama has even voted to allow late term abortions
Bush actually accomplishing things in Texas on a bipartisan basis? Nope, Obama has the most consistent liberal voting record in the Senate.
Bush's pledge to assign strict constructionist judges to the Supreme Court? Nope.
Bush's pledge to a strong military? Nope, Obama is more the cut and run type.
Bush's desire to improve educational choice through school vouchers? Nope, wouldn't wash with the NEA.
Bush's campaign to lower taxes? Nope, Barack wants those increased.
Bush's advocating for expanded free trade? Nope, Barack wants to kill NAFTA
Oh, wait, I think I've got it. As with numerous events in his new book, McClellan appears again confused on the facts. I think he's referring to Bush's 2004 campaign not his 2000 campaign. In 2004, one of the Bush campaign slogans was:
Yes, America Can
which does sound an awful lot like Obama's 2008 Campaign slogan:
Yes, We Can
I guess Scott is right. Obama does sound a lot like Bush. Yup, and Roseanne Barr sounds a lot like Maria Callas!

A Tragedy That Surely Could Have Been Averted!
The local fish wrapper, The Star and Sickle in Minneapolis is reporting that scores of songbirds were killed in the northern 2/3 of Minnesota over the past few weeks.
They apparently starved to death.
No this wasn't due to the use of pesticides. It wasn't due to excessive feral cats. No, the cause was an extended winter that climaxed 10 days ago with 15" of snow. Bugs did not survive so neither did the birds.

House Democrats are working to pass a "Housing rescue package." The main provisions of the bill are similar to those that have been reported for the past few months including:
- Giving the Federal Housing Administration $300 billion in new lending authority and the ability to relax its standards to rewrite existing loans.
- Permanently increase the size of loans the FHA, Freddie MAC and Fannie MAE can insure to $729,750 in high cost areas.

Posted at 3:14pm on May 6, 2008 More Bad News for Candidate Al Franken
By Shoebox
I've documented Franken's problems with obeying tax laws his accountant here and here.
Some folks have been skeptical that these issues would impact Franken's bid for Senate. I however believe that while we from Minnesota are politically confused, our compasses point pretty much north regarding ethics and integrity. It appears my knowledge of Minnesotans is proving out.

On March 31st, the USDA released its crop estimates for the year. Included was an estimate that acres planted with corn were going to drop 8% from the 2007. Even with the reduction in acreage the overall crop yield should be about the same as 2007 which was 13.1 billion bushels.
So we've got lots of corn, that's good news.

By Shoebox
There's an urban legend that states that if you put a frog in water and increase the temperature slowly, the frog will not notice the change in temperature and eventually be killed by the hot water. This experiment has been tried by many aspiring "scientists" and I have no doubt that many frogs have found their final rest as result. However, not every frog succumbs to the increasing heat, sometimes the frog jumps.

Posted at 1:22pm on Apr. 28, 2008 One Senate seat the Dems won't get
By Shoebox
Democrats were hopeful that the Senate seat of Norm Coleman from Minnesota, would be one that they could get in their attempt to get a 60 vote, filibuster proof majority. The Dems felt that by running Al Franken, a candidate with high name recognition and strong liberal politics they could turn the seat in a state that recently elected one of the most liberal members of the Senate Amy Klobuchar. It's not going to happen.

By Shoebox
In a well publicized statement, John McCain has repudiated the North Carolina Republican Party over it's ad that decries the endorsement of the two Democratic Governor candidates of Obama saying that Obama is too far left for North Carolina. The commercial uses Obama's link to Jeremiah Wright as evidence of Obama's far left views.
As a part of McCain's statement he said North Carolina's Republican Party was "out of touch with reality."
