Jihadist Darwin Award

Back in April, your humble correspondent had a catch-up lunch with an old business colleague.

By coincidence, he had just returned from Florida, where his son had just completed Navy ordinance disposal training.

They had a little open house for families, including a display of real IED parts from Iraq.

The bottom-line story he got from the folks in Florida (and maybe someone else in this forum can comment on this) is that the electronic countermeasures that our guys have been using (such as cell-phone jamming) have been so effective that the bad guys are having to resort to very crude mechanical trigger mechanisms, such as clothes-pins and strings.

"More often than not, it seems that the nowadays the bad guys blow themselves up with their own attempts at bombs."

Perhaps this video is a confirmation of that trend.

(Note: Very mild language alert.)

If our technical countermeasures have been raising the risk to the enemy, wonderful....

Update

Actually, listening to the audio again, I'm not sure if those are jihadists. They might be friendly "militiamen" who were trying to remove an IED. There's a longer version of this where you can see one of the guys trying to pry at it with the muzzle of his AK-47.
