Who was "Skanderbeg"?
This question comes up in here all the time.
If you go to youtube and search on the name, the first thing that comes up is the clip (it looks like a trailer of some sort) embedded below. It's a bit melodramatic in a "History Channel" sort of way, but it's not a bad introduction.
It's of course impossible to know exactly what Mehmet II was thinking after capturing Constantinople, but "threats from the east" have been plentiful throughout European history; not only did the Turks get as far as Vienna - earlier, the Mongols got as far as Krakow.
So it is not out-of-line to argue that the fierce resistance put up by Skanderbeg and his band of merry men did indeed keep the Ottomans out of Italy.
And that is how the Albanians saved civilization. :-)
