Posted at 12:58pm on Jun. 19, 2008 George W. Bush's Resignation Speech

By St. Louis Conservative

I got this in an email. I don't know how many of you have already seen this. I apologize if you have, but I thought it was pretty good.

This is what President Bush's speech would be if he were to resign today:

Normally, I start these things out by saying 'My Fellow Americans', not doing it this time. If the polls are any indication, I don't know who more than half of you are anymore. I do know something terrible has happened, and that you're really not fellow Americans any longer.

Posted at 3:35pm on Jun. 11, 2008 McCain is a Disaster on Energy

By St. Louis Conservative

Oh my gosh!!…says Larry Kudlow.

John McCain is refusing to budge from his Obama-esque position on energy. This morning on The Today Show was the real kicker. McCain talked about oil companies “sharing their profits”. That sounds downright socialistic, or something that easily could have come out of the mouth of Dick Durbin or Barack Obama. He also invoked Jimmy Carter when he talked about oil being a “finite resource” that is “controlled by cartels”. If that’s true, it’s only because our own government has created that situation. I assume the calculation within the McCain camp is that they can pick off some Democrat votes by vilifying oil companies and CEO pay, similar to how left-wing populists in the Democrat Party do. It won’t work, Senator McCain. You can attract disaffected Democrats in other ways, but pandering on a losing issue such as this is not a way to do it.

Posted at 4:31pm on May 21, 2008 Obama is the most partisan (and liberal) Senator in Congress

By St. Louis Conservative

Tell me again why this man is being heralded as a “moderate”, when he is ranked the #1 most liberal senator in congress, meaning he has a more left-wing voting record than admitted socialist Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Tell me again how it is that Obama is also heralded as a “new kind of politician”, one that is “post-partisan”, and someone that “seeks compromise”, when he is amongst the most virulently partisan senators in Washington, voting the Democrat Party line an astounding 96.5% of the time.

Posted at 12:33pm on May 12, 2008 McCain confirms our fears; UPDATE: George Will weighs in.

By St. Louis Conservative

According to this story, McCain has confirmed my worst fears, and has endorsed a cap and trade system with a goal of reducing carbon levels to 70% below 1990 levels. It has the same effect as a carbon energy tax, but is more costly and far less efficient. Free-market my #$%*(#$ ass. I guess we should stop breathing.

Posted at 6:03pm on Apr. 9, 2008 Obama will break pledge with John McCain on public financing.

By St. Louis Conservative

Last year, Obama made an unequivocal statement in an interview in which he stated that he planned to "aggressively pursue a deal with the Republican candidate on public financing".

Apparently that was another Obama lie.

At a $2,300/plate fundraiser, Obama has apparently reneged on that promise.

Posted at 11:54am on Mar. 24, 2008 Democrat mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick indicted this morning.

By St. Louis Conservative

According to the Associated Press

As is standard procedure when covering Democrat scandals, no party affiliation is mentioned, however he is referred to as "one-time rising star", and "popular yet polarizing".

Kilpatrick is also an Obama superdelegate.

Posted at 1:52pm on Mar. 9, 2008 A thought on the passing scene.

By St. Louis Conservative

For awhile, I have mostly been mad about Republican defeats and Democrat victories, the loss of Congress, etc.

Right now, for the first time in a long time, I am truly sad. I am sad because I am a freedom-loving, liberty-craving, uber-patriotic American who cares deeply about the future of America and everything it stands for (or at least the ideals it was founded on).

What I see right now are the forces of secular European socialism on the march, and not a lot of resistance in their way. I see a motivated, energized Democrat party who, if given the reins of power, represent a very serious threat to the traditions and institutions that this great country was founded on.

Posted at 7:00pm on Jan. 30, 2008 KY-2: Ron Lewis retires. This is getting ridiculous.

By St. Louis Conservative

Ron Lewis retires, saying "it's not as fun being in Congress since the Democrats took over".

This district is relatively conservative, but it's another race to win without an incumbent. Tom Cole is earning his pay this year.

Posted at 4:03pm on Jan. 30, 2008 VA-11: Tom Davis is retiring.

By St. Louis Conservative

Another GOP congressman goes down, and unlike most of the other ones, this one could be hard to keep unless Hillary Clinton is at the top of the ticket.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/01/30/ST20080130...

While Davis typically cruised to re-election every cycle, Bush won over Kerry by a razor thin majority of 50-49. This is one instance where a McCain at the top of the ticket could be a benefit to retaining this seat.

Posted at 10:06am on Jan. 29, 2008 MO-Gov: Kenny Hulshof is in.

By St. Louis Conservative

http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/9746

In the wake of Matt Blunt's unexpected retirement, Kenny Hulshof has thrown his hat into the ring. Two other candidates, Sarah Steelman and Peter Kinder, are seeking the GOP nod, but I expect Hulshof to get it. He ran in 2004, but backed out to let Blunt run.

Hulshof is probably the GOP's best candidate to retain the governor's mansion here in Missouri, so this is good news on that front.

Posted at 11:13pm on Jan. 28, 2008 State of the Race Q&A Session: The Democrats.

By St. Louis Conservative

Wow, Obama scored a HUGE win in South Carolina. He's gonna win the nomination, right?

Not so fast. The media attention to these early primaries has given the impression to a lot of people that each of these individual primaries carry more weight than they actually do. I'm not saying they don't count, they do. But the big enchilada is February 5.

Yeah, so why can't Obama pull it off on Super Tuesday?

Posted at 8:10pm on Jan. 24, 2008 What to watch for in the GOP debate tonight.

By St. Louis Conservative

Giuliani: He needs to make something happen. Giuliani's numbers have been slipping in Florida lately (and nationally too) and if he doesn't come out of here with a win or a VERY close second, he could be in serious trouble. I saw some recent polls with McCain leading in New York of all places. Rudy needs votes, so I expect to see an energetic and aggressive Mayor tonight. Personally, I feel that a lot of McCain and Rudy's support is interchangeable, so you might see the Hizzoner go after McCain a bit, although I'm sure he'll snipe at Romney too.

Posted at 4:20pm on Jan. 22, 2008 Romney's Troubling Head-to-Head Numbers.

By St. Louis Conservative

I like Romney, but it is increasingly troubling to me that he - and he alone, mind you - loses to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in safe red states like Kansas. In Missouri, which tends to lean Republican, only Romney loses to Obama and Hillary.

I know it's early, and I don't like to get caught up in polling right now, but why exactly do Huck and McCain keep those states red while Romney doesn't? You can't really chalk it up to name-recognition, since Romney's name recognition is comparable to Huck's....he might even be more well known.

Posted at 12:42am on Jan. 18, 2008 Can Romney win the general?

By St. Louis Conservative

Somebody make a convincing case that Romney can win the general election against BOTH Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. I would like Romney supporters to specifically cite how Mitt will hold the states Bush won, and how can he make up for the loss of possibly Ohio and/or Virginia?

Have at it.

Posted at 4:02pm on Jan. 11, 2008 What's your rundown?

By St. Louis Conservative

I've been curious for awhile now as to what folks around here do for a living, and where people are from. If you're comfortable, I'd be interested to know. I'll start:

I live in St. Louis, and I work in real estate development. I was born in San Diego, but have lived in Missouri most of my life - Springfield, MO, Columbia, MO, and now St. Louis, MO.

Have at it.
