Posted at 3:45am on Jun. 18, 2008 A preview of our future courtesy of Emperor Kennedy.

By stang

An object lesson in the dangers posed to our country by the recent Supreme Court cases Boumediene v. Bush and Dada v. Mukasey is playing itself out in the U.K. The legal entanglements that have hamstrung the British government’s case to deport radical Islamic cleric, Abu Qatada are a preview of what we can now expect to see in the U.S. court system thanks to Emperor Kennedy and his fellow leftist justices. Qatada, wanted in his native Jordan for allegedly plotting a series of bomb attacks in Amman in 1998 and for providing finance and advice to terrorists planning a series of explosions there, and his lawyers have made a mockery of the courts.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2147168/Abu-Qatada-Islamic-cleric...

“Abu Qatada, the radical Islamic cleric described as Osama bin Laden’s “right-hand man in Europe”, has been released from jail after a judge ruled that there were no grounds to keep him in prison.

The decision to allow him to return to his home in London – where he will receive around £1,000 per month in state benefits – made a mockery of the government’s promise to crack down on terror suspects, and embarrassed the Home Office, which had pledged to deport Qatada to Jordan to face terror charges.” Snip

Posted at 10:34pm on Jun. 10, 2008 Know your enemy….The War on Political Correctness

By stang

From “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu…

“So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will fight without danger in battles.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself”.

Some excellent blogs here at RS in the last couple of days have greatly furthered the goal of “knowing yourself” as we discuss the strategy and tactics necessary to combat further erosion of our culture, our country and our liberties by the left/liberal cabal that has infested America. Some great ideas have been offered about what we should stand for and how we should present our message. (Thanks GC, EPU, AIT et al.) In keeping with Sun Tzu’s admonition, however, I have been troubled by the lack of a coherent definition of our enemies (they are not opponents) and their strategy and tactics. What motivates them? What are they trying to achieve? What are the tools that they employ? How are we to combat them effectively?

“Where does all this stuff that you’ve heard about this morning – the victim feminism, the gay rights movement, the invented statistics, the rewritten history, the lies, the demands, all the rest of it – where does it come from? For the first time in our history, Americans have to be fearful of what they say, of what they write, and of what they think. They have to be afraid of using the wrong word, a word denounced as offensive or insensitive, or racist, sexist, or homophobic.”

These are the opening lines of a speech given by Bill Lind in 2001 (please read the whole speech, I promise you’ll be glad you did) addressing the modus operandi of the left as they attempt to subvert our country. Wouldn’t you agree that these words are truer today than 7 years ago?

http://www.academia.org/lectures/lind1.html

More from Lind...

“We call it "Political Correctness." The name originated as something of a joke, literally in a comic strip, and we tend still to think of it as only half-serious. In fact, it’s deadly serious. It is the great disease of our century, the disease that has left tens of millions of people dead in Europe, in Russia, in China, indeed around the world. It is the disease of ideology. PC is not funny. PC is deadly serious.
If we look at it analytically, if we look at it historically, we quickly find out exactly what it is. Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. It is Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms. It is an effort that goes back not to the 1960s and the hippies and the peace movement, but back to World War I. If we compare the basic tenets of Political Correctness with classical Marxism the parallels are very obvious.“

Posted at 9:30pm on Jun. 4, 2008 More bad news for Congressman William Jefferson, Democrat, Louisiana

By stang

The family that steals together, stays together. (In prison hopefully).

Thank goodness Bobby Jindal is running things in Louisiana now!

From AP in Tampa Bay Online:

" A brother, sister and niece of indicted U.S. Rep. William Jefferson were charged Wednesday with pocketing more than $600,000 in state and federal grant money intended for charitable and educational projects.

A federal grand jury indicted New Orleans tax assessor Betty Jefferson, her brother, Mose Jefferson, and her daughter, Angela Coleman, on charges that include federal program fraud, identity theft and conspiracy to commit money laundering."

Now who's gonna pay for his lawyers?

“Our country is now taking so steady a course as to show by what road it will pass to destruction, to wit: by consolidation [of power] first, and then corruption, its necessary consequence.”

Posted at 11:28pm on May 25, 2008 How did your Representative vote on HR 6074 or Let's sue OPEC?

By stang

In re: H.R. 6074: Gas Price Relief for Consumers Act of 2008

In a disgusting display of unprincipled and crass political self interest, a majority of House Republicans (103 aye, 84 nay, 14 nv) voted YES with the Democrats (All aye, 0 nay) in the House to pass HR 6074, more commonly known as the NOPEC or *Let's Sue OPEC* bill. The bill passed 324-84.

I compiled this list and published it here because it seems that these Representatives aren’t terribly anxious to receive the accolades they deserve for their fine work on behalf of the Democrat... I mean American people. I guess they’re just too humble…oops…I meant ashamed.

While most of the House Republican leaders voted against this farcical piece of legislation, as of this writing I have yet to see or hear a word attempting to justify or explain their yes vote from any of these Republicans(so called).

I was somewhat surprised to see Chief Deputy Majority Whip, Rep. Eric Cantor’s (R-VA7) name appear on the yes side of this vote. As he has posted here at RS before, maybe some of you that know him could prevail upon him to enlighten us with the rationale for voting yes on this bill.

Is your Representative on this list?

Note- The summary of the bill and list of Republican *yes* voters appears below the fold.

Posted at 10:49am on May 25, 2008 Mark Steyn for President!

By stang

Mark Steyn is spot on in his analysis of the recently passed House legislation (324-82) to sue the OPEC nations. Why aren't we hearing this from our so called *leaders*? Any of them? I'm writing Steyn in for President!

In the Orange County (CA) Register this morning:

"It shall be illegal and a violation of this Act," declared the House of Representatives, "to limit the production or distribution of oil, natural gas, or any other petroleum product ... or to otherwise take any action in restraint of trade for oil, natural gas or any petroleum product when such action, combination, or collective action has a direct, substantial, and reasonably foreseeable effect on the market, supply, price or distribution of oil, natural gas or other petroleum product in the United States."

Er, OK. But, before we start suing distant sheikhs in exotic lands for violating the NOPEC act, why don't we start by suing Congress? After all, who "limits the production or distribution of oil" right here in the United States by declaring that there'll be no drilling in the Gulf of Florida or the Arctic National Mosquito Refuge?

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/oil-change-nopec-2050717-government-p...

Hmmm...let's see...how many R's voted (324-82) for this idiotic bill?

Posted at 12:22am on Jan. 15, 2008 The problem with ( a lot of ) Republicans.

By stang

As a conservative and non-Republican, I have had some thoughts on the schism that I have observed developing in the right leaning side of the politcal spectrum. Republican and conservative have never been synonymous and even less so today. Many conservatives vote Republican because they most closely represent our values. For many conservatives (myself included) that is getting harder and harder to do, as evidenced by the arguments presented in support of or against our respective candidates, some going so far as to say they will never vote for this one or that one. But we (most of us anyway) vote R because the alternative is even worse.

By stang

Subtitle: Why I'm proud of my Congressman

Rarely seen or heard in the media, my representative in Congress, Howard "Buck" McKeon (R CA-25) had this to say in recommendation of a new report from the House Reublicans titled "Death by a Thousand Cuts: Democrats' War on American Jobs" The report was issued by Representatives John Boehner, Roy Blunt, Adam Putnam and Eric Cantor.

"Simply put, it has been an agenda of regulation, litigation, and taxation.

Sometimes aggressively, sometimes cunningly, Democrats have advanced a series of policies that threaten to bog down America's job-creating engine in a quagmire of redundant bureaucracy and costly litigation. In one bill after the next, we have seen an agenda that favors labor bosses and trial lawyers at the expense of free enterprise and American ingenuity."

The entire report is available here:

Thank you Congressman McKeon and keep fighting the good fight!

By stang

John Perry, in a column at Newsmax.com yesterday answers this question.

"What’s wrong with Fred Thomson’s presidential campaign isn’t Fred Thompson or his messages. It’s those preposterous televised debates that trivialize and trash the presidency, itself."

"The smarmy truth has already leaked: Questions are stirred up in the unclean kitchens of leftist political witches and accommodatingly put to selected candidates by the likes of CNN.

Posted at 12:45am on Oct. 30, 2007 Rudy a Lefty? Yeah, Right.

By stang

So how does the left view Rudy? A screed from Frank Greenberg foretells the LeftView of the world we will be competing with in the next election.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/26/AR200710...

Before you go off on me, first consider the source (WaPo). I am not defending or criticizing Rudy and in no way, shape or form, agree with the author's opinion, although Rudy critics could probably find things they are simpatico with here. Also worthy of consideration while reading this is what the author, Frank Greenberg, must think of the rest of the Republican candidates.

It is however, instructive to better understand how the opposition views the current Republican field of candidates. We dismiss the import of their rantings at our own peril.

He starts off;

"You wouldn't know it from reading the papers, but the favorite to win the Republican presidential nomination is a confirmed right-winger. On issues such as free speech and religion, secrecy and due process, civil rights and civil liberties, pornography and democracy, this moralist and self-styled lawman has exhibited all the key hallmarks of Bush-era conservatism.

That candidate is Rudolph W. Giuliani."

Posted at 2:36am on Oct. 25, 2007 Is this "American Idol" or a presidential election?

By stang

Admittedly a masochistic politcal junkie, I, like others here have noted a distinct tendency towards style over substance arguments both here and in the DBM. Many of our own have fallen into the trap of following process instead of principle in the debate over who is the most suitable candidate. A lot of commentary reads more like the Hollywood Gossip than a debate of the serious issues facing the relationship between the citizens of this country, their government, and our children's future.

In an article posted at Slate this evening, Jack Shafer lays out the modus operandi and machinations of the Clinton Propaganda apparatus; its' genesis and its' current form as the Hillary for POTUS Campaign. It is an alternately chilling and disgusting example of how "The Bill & Hill Show" co-opt the suckers of the DBM and ensure that only the "Official HRC Version" of the news is reported.

Posted at 1:51pm on Oct. 6, 2007 So what gives, Congressman Boehner?

By stang

Last Thursday, Congressman and Republican Minority Leader John Boehner blogged here on RS about the fight for earmark reform in the Congress and how the Democrats are blocking them.

http://www.redstate.com/blogs/congressman_john_boehner/2007/oct/04/house...

Then this morning...

"In a secret meeting Wednesday of the House Republican leadership, Minority Leader John Boehner ruled that Rep. Jerry Lewis of California will continue as the party's ranking member of the Appropriations Committee while under federal investigation on ethics charges.

That widened the gap between Boehner and reform-minded House Republicans, including members of the leadership. Under investigation for sponsoring questionable earmarks, Lewis remains a major Republican spokesman in Congress."

I don't usually pay much attention to all the email jokes that I receive from friends. But tonight I received this one and thought it was worth sharing. Thanks to Berdie and Carolyn G.

"I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it is as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. Read on...

Posted at 2:37am on Sep. 6, 2007 Voter Turnout

By stang

I just watched Fred's announcement video...then I went back and listened to it again to be sure that I had really heard what I heard.

Mr. Thompson, in 5 minutes, revealed more about himself, his beliefs, and the principals that he believes should guide this country than I've heard from all the other candidates combined. In plain english, he started at the beginning and explained himself and the reasons for his candidacy and most importantly, why he was running for president. He didn't jump in to this fray by trying to out-pander the other candidates or thumping his chest and proposing the next great fix of a government program. It was the most common sense that I've heard come out of a politician's mouth in a long time. More...
