Posted at 7:05pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Breaking News: IndyMac Bank Seized by Federal Regulators
By Steve Foley
quote]The federal government said it took control of troubled IndyMac Bank today, in what regulators called the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history.
The Office of Thrift Supervision in Washington, the chief regulator of Pasadena-based IndyMac, said it transferred control of the $32-billion bank to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
With all the talk about Fannie and Freddie and more possible bailouts this is devastating news! FDIC will make people whole on $100,000.00 or more and my guess is that everyone will be made whole after all is said and done!
The Dow is down 230 points and most people paying attention this morning saw the writing on the wall and a wholesale bail on IndyMac caused the seizure of the bank this afternoon!

Posted at 12:41pm on Jul. 11, 2008 The RNC is Looking for Platform Suggestions
By Steve Foley
As the body politic continues its evolution, some things change and some stay the same. One thing that has been more or less relegated to the ash heap of history is the Party Platform. it's a relic of a bygone age when principles and policy stances had meaning and one could glean a fairly accurate sense of the parties motives and direction.
That day, I'm sorry to report, is gone! Not that I think there isn't a place for the party platform, on the contrary, I think over simplified talking points look great on the party's website! I just don't think members, especially elected ones, are paying them much attention anymore!
Well, imagine my surprise as I opened my email this morning to find a letter from the the RNC encouraging me to visit a new website and participate in crafting the platform for the next four years! Did you catch that? The next four years? I wonder if that was intentional? more on that down article.
The site is gopplatform2008.com and is put together by what the RNC is calling the Republican Platform Committee:
Welcome to the most grassroots-driven platform development effort in the history of American politics!

Posted at 3:46pm on Jun. 27, 2008 Even The Japanese Can't Make Fun of Obama
By Steve Foley
A TV commercial running in Japan for a Mobile phone company was forced (by the blogosphere) to remove their creative effort over accusations that it was a racist reference to Barack Obama.
A Japanese mobile phone firm said today it had pulled a TV advert depicting a monkey as a political candidate amid accusations that it was a racist reference to Barack Obama, who is seeking to become the first black US president.
The ad, for eMobile, shows a monkey in a suit addressing an election rally, surrounded by supporters carrying placards with the word "Change".
The apparent intention is to persuade subscribers to other mobile phone carriers to transfer to eMobile.
But the combination of the monkey, and the resemblance of his message to the theme of Obama's campaign - "Change we can believe in" - prompted bloggers to accuse the company of making a racist slur against the Democratic hopeful.
The company, which stressed it had used the macaque mascot in several other adverts, said it had never intended to insult Obama but had decided to pull the "Change" ad in response to criticism in the blogosphere.
Two points here:
1) It's been perfectly OK to do the same thing to George W Bush for the last 8 years see Here and Here
2) Isn't it the liberals who keep insisting we evolved from monkeys? How is comparing Bush to a monkey and different from comparing Obama to a monkey. Now I'm not naive I know the old stereotype but where does ones mind have to be in order to jump immediately to that conclusion???

By Steve Foley
Amnesty International and other liberal activist groups are on the Washington D.C. leg of their Gitmo Cell tour in an attempt to show that the U.S. is engaged in torture. Problem is they (as usual) have internationally left out facts and specifics in order to show life at Gitmo in the darkest possible light.

By Steve Foley
Can I ask you a question? CAN'T YOU JUST FEEL THE CHANGE!!! CAN'T YOU JUST FEEL THE HOPE!!!
With all of his soaring rhetoric about change and a new politic the far left leaning Democrat nominee for President of the United States seems more like the same ol' same ol' to me.
In fact, if one were to look at his newly named advisers, and this one did, one would find a litany of former Carter and Clinton administration leftovers now tapped to come aboard the Empty-Talk Express!

Posted at 12:12pm on Jun. 10, 2008 The Resurrection of Austan Goolsbee
By Steve Foley
Back from the abyss to become the third in what appears to be a long line of questionable Obama appointees is one Austan Goolsbee. That's right -- the same Austan Goolsbee from Canada/NAFTA-gate, as TPM’s Greg Sargent pointed out in a piece penned yesterday entitled "Austan Goolsbee Lives!"
Austan resurfaced in a confenece call yesterday as Obama's chief surrogate on economics. As Greg Sargent put it:
And so, today on a conference call today with reporters, Goolsbee was front and center as a chief surrogate for Obama, who's battling it out with John McCain today over their competing economic plans.

Posted at 8:36am on May 31, 2008 John Conyers: Looking For Congressional Hearings Over McClellan's Book
By Steve Foley

Do-Nothing Congress
Just when you thought our do-nothing Democrat majority controlled congress couldn't possibly waste any more of Americas time and money on pointless exercises. In comes House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) stage left with the preposterousIdea of calling for congressional hearings on the already settled Valerie Plame leak case.
From CBS News Conyers: McClellan Revelations May Require Hearing
"I find Mr. McClellan's revelations about attempts to cover up the Valerie Plame leak extremely troubling. Particularly disturbing is McClellan's assertion that he was specifically directed by Andy Card to 'vouch' for Scooter Libby after the investigation had begun, which, if true, could amount to obstruction of justice beyond that for which Mr. Libby has already been convicted,” said Conyers.
