This is the kind of stuff that sends me up a wall quite frankly and it happens way too often.
“Senate tells Justice to look at suspicious earmark”
The full story talks about a new highway bill but this bit caught my eye.

Posted at 3:08pm on Mar. 23, 2008 A McClintock hit job or something else?
By SteveLA
I realize that Neil and others from CA think Tom McClintock is the cat’s pajamas and destined to win his congressional race, but it looks like the axis of evil here in So Calf, the LA Times is after him.
I personally take a pretty dim view of politicians doing their imitation of hogs at the trough, and I am still thinking a bit about the “optics” as they say about this story. McClintock is a bit of a hair shirt when it comes to spending, so this looks hokey in lots of ways.

A rather shortish blog entry, but for no other reason that pitchers and catchers have reported, I submit the following for the funny of the day.
And yes...that's Hill....and yes they have pulled the card from the market already. Lastly, NO I will not call down the wrath of Leon and suggest that the object of affection is a Red Sox player.

Posted at 1:28pm on Feb. 16, 2008 The contest is over! MBecker wins!
By SteveLA
As a Californian I hereby declare that MBecker lives in the best state in the Union as far as dealing with illegal aliens go, Arizona and Phoenix are the true leaders in dealing with this problem.
This in from the NY Times (ugh) that proves the point.
PHOENIX — The police in this city at the center of the immigration debate will soon ask all people arrested whether they are in the United States legally and will in certain cases report the information to the federal authorities, Mayor Phil Gordon announced on Friday. People stopped for civil traffic violations like speeding will not be questioned, nor will crime victims or witnesses. All those arrested on criminal charges like drunken driving and murder will be asked by officers whether they are in the United States legally....

Posted at 9:37pm on Feb. 7, 2008 Has Laura Ingram Jumped the Shark ?
By SteveLA
I made the mistake of listening to Laura Ingram this morning before Mitt withdrew from the race and I had to check the channel I was on. It was like I knew it was “America Right”, but for some reason I was hearing Laura doing her Randi Rhodes of the Hard Right act coming over my radio. Her critique and commentary about John McCain made as much sense, had about as much intelligence and was delivered in the same annoying breathless style as just about anything I’ve ever heard coming from Ms. Rhodes. Scary stuff.

Posted at 9:05pm on Jan. 31, 2008 Puking on the Democratic Debate
By SteveLA
OK...so as many of the rest of you are, I am watching the Democratic Debate. Well at least for as long as I can stand it.
Instead of a open tread, I decided to call this "Puking on the Democratic Debate". It's only fitting for comments on a Democratic debate on a conservative site.

Posted at 9:25pm on Jan. 22, 2008 It’s the economy...again...Stupid
By SteveLA
If you believe the markets, the market prognosticators and the MSM, the defining issue of the ’08 election may not be the war in Iraq, it may be the imploding US economy effecting middle America’s pocket book.
A few of guys at work were talking about what a bad economy would mean to the country and how the respective political ideology would affect the actions of our government. This is not as much a, what would Republican candidate X do and Y would do sort of discussion, it’s more about what are the philosophical differences between the two parties and how would they effect Joe Six Pack. To be honest, I’m not well read on this topic, and economics has not been a topic over the last 8 years that has exactly been a hot topic for Republicans, so I don’t have answers.

Posted at 8:52pm on Jan. 9, 2008 One of the greatest sounds
By SteveLA
I found the following video clip over on Black5, it's well worth the time to watch.
The clip features Robin Williams (bleeped heavily) and one of the sounds and sights that anyone who has ever served in uniform, or spent any time around any sort of military instillation will recall with the greatest of pride and fondest of memories.
Posted at 10:21pm on Jan. 7, 2008 Predicting NH Primary
By SteveLA
As a just for fun sort of thread, what are your predictions for tomorrow's NH primary?
As Moe (correction streiff) likes to call it, I'll beclown myself and start the ball rolling.
On the R side, my predictions
Mitt "The Hair" Romney wins by 1 point
John "Grumpy Old Man" McCain in second
Ron "He Who Must Not Be Named" Paul in third place with at 10 percent
Pastor "Fast Talking" Huckabee in fourth place with 9 precent

Posted at 7:47pm on Jan. 6, 2008 Tonight's Fox R Debate....Game Rules for watching
By SteveLA
We're now counting down to the Republican debate on Fox tonight and we should start working on the rules of the game for watching the debate.
Now we could make this a drinking game and for ever one of the following occurring, a shot of your favorite beverage must be consumed, but let's just score points.
In the event Ron "He who must not be named" Paul breaks into the studio and demands to appear, the game is over.

Posted at 1:32am on Jan. 4, 2008 Rush calls into Fox
By SteveLA
For once us folks living out on the "Left Coast" got to hear some breaking news when Rush called into Shepard and Gretta tonight on Fox. Here's a quick summary of what Rush had to say.
On the Republican side, it's a long race and it's just beginning.
On the feud with Pastor HuckaFraud, it's not over by any means. Rush does not expect HuckaFraud to call into his show anytime soon and flat out stated that HuckaFraud is being disingenuous when stating that his campaign does not know how to contact his show. As an aside Rush mentioned that he had an email from Pastor HuckaFraud but there was no acceptance of responsibility by Huck for the nasty comments from his campaign, got the feeling that Rush is still quite steamed.

The boys at JibJab are at it again, this time a recap of 2007.
There's a few political jabs in here, so guess it's fair game for RS.
Thanks to Steve Foley, now as an embed without the commercial in the comments thread.

Posted at 9:04pm on Dec. 23, 2007 A Mitt body Slam
By SteveLA
The Concord Monitor came out yesterday with a pretty hard slam on Mitt Romney, and you have to ask what got up their collective nose?
http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071222/OPINIO...
I know nothing about the editorial board at this paper, don't read it on line or anything, but this is going to leave a mark for sure. The stark way they open the piece is pretty damming.

Posted at 1:29pm on Dec. 22, 2007 New endorsements for Mitt
By SteveLA
In the growing list of people who have jumped on the Mitt bandwagon, today Tommy Flanagan came out strongly for Mitt Romney….Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Tommy Flanagan: Hello, my name is Tommy Flanagan, and I'm a member of Pathological Liars Anonymous. In fact.. I'm the president of the organization!
I didn't always lie. No, when I was a kid, I told the truth. But then one day, I got caught stealing money out of my mother's purse. I lied. I told her it was homework - that my teacher told me to do it. And she got fired! Yeah, that's what happened!

Posted at 9:37pm on Dec. 21, 2007 Fred Drops Out!
By SteveLA
Breaking January 9th, 2008 Nashua New Hampshire
Fred Dalton Thompson, today declared his candidacy for the President was ending.
In brief comments outside of a Holiday Inn Express, Senator Thompson might state:
After coming in a disappointing 4th place in Iowa, followed by a weak 3rd place finish in New Hampshire, it has become apparent that I stand no chance whatsoever of winning this thing and I’m going home. I’d like to thank all who offered silly hats for me to wear, chances to raise my hand in debates and all the other wonderful things that have happened on and off the bus.
