John Edwards; Israel - Greatest Short-Term Threat to World Peace!

Sorry for the short post and if this has been discussed here already I apologize but this is rich!

Peter Bart in his Variety column had this gem from John Edwards.

The real Hollywood politics

There are other emerging fissures, as well. The aggressively photogenic John Edwards was cruising along, detailing his litany of liberal causes last week until, during question time, he invoked the "I" word -- Israel. Perhaps the greatest short-term threat to world peace, Edwards remarked, was the possibility that Israel would bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. As a chill descended on the gathering, the Edwards event was brought to a polite close

You’ve got to be kidding me! I know it’s only a matter of time before liberals reveal their true feelings but I didn’t think Edwards would start so soon!

I suppose AQ, Iran, North Korea and the like aren’t worth his consideration!

isn't holding back...

1) He wants to win the Dearborn vote in a big way.
2) His VP list does not include Joe Lieberman.

So this is what running in the moonbat primary will do to a man, huh? Scary and a little sad. Just a little.

After the 2006 elections, al Qaeda released a statement saying they were happy Democrats won. That should tell you all you need to know.

congrats on making the Dem primary a 2-man race, Edwards. between this and his bloggers and a mansion big enough to house the 2nd America he so likes to champion, this guy's eliminated himself quicker than Howard Dean can scream.

No, really. He should have known better than to let Senator Clinton play with the Orbital Mind Control Lasers.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC.

smiles at your petty attempts to fathom his vast iniquity.

"I put Silky Pony on high speed rewind when we debated during Election '04. He hasn't recovered since. I should be nice to the boy and take him duck hunting." He offers with a malicious grin.

be that far behind?

One could riposte that the greatest threat to justice is the trial lawyer lobby, but, never mind, the guy is self-destructing anyway.

We'll have to go after the Puerto Ricans or something...

it'll be the Republicans.

... John Edwards seemed to care a lot about the world as it is, rather than the world as the netroots see it. In fact, he was downright hawkish on Iraq.

He's clearly gone off the deep end.

We would also like to know your advice for somebody like my daughter, who's going to graduate in two years, advice that you would give a young person.

SEC. RUMSFELD: Advice for a young person. Study history.

Without Howard Dean in the race, we need somebody spewing rhetoric that makes Hillary and Obama look sane in comparison. Edwards will have to do, even if he can't scream as well as Howard.

how stupid, exactly, is the North Carolina insurance defense bar?

Harry Reid is to ethics reform what HIV was to free love!

He thinks he is still addressing a jury, able to lie and mislead and dissemble.

I don't know if it is the greatest threat to short term world peace right now (the current actual boom boom war has to be at least in the top 5) but there is a real possibility that Israel will preemptively end Iran's nuclear plans. Or at least interrupt them with some loud noises and bright flashes of light.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.

Israel wants to expand their territorial borders to include Iran. The current state of Israel is too crowded - even Jews can't stand being around that many Jews - so they are going to clear out Iran so they'll have some leibenstraum.

Or something like that.

They have already annexed large portions of Los Angeles and even there, the mention of the word Israel causes everyone to get the chills and stop talking.

and a curiously disproportionate share of the Senate, House, and Supreme Court.

We'll just say that I'm joking too.

Yes, I should have mentioned that I don't think a temporary reprieve in our current blissful state of swirled peas is necessarily a bad thing.

You know, breaking eggs and omelettes, etc.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.

would rather get back to you on:
"Is it better to have world peace where you bribe the Iranians yearly not to nuke you into the 7th Century, or is it better to go with a temporary caesura on the whirled peas stuff and let loose on Quds the way the Imams beat the infidels?"

The only thing worse than having to read anything about what John Edwards thinks is having to suffer through anything Peter Bart writes to learn about it. Every time I read Bart in Variety I break out in a cold sweat and have to keep a bucket nearby while struggling to hold back the vomit. If you don't believe that Hollywood is certifiably insane and that the Liberals shouldn't be trusted with anything sharper than a Twinkie, just read his column. I dare you! Read it!

I'm going to hold back the gags as I type this, but I think Edwards merely mispoke, and his record on supporting the US-Israel relationship is fairly solid. He was one of the main speakers at the AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) Policy conference last year.

I'm not betting on it. The quotes I've seen are pretty detailed and specific. If he caves on this right after BloggerGate™ people will rip out his hair.

I hear that it's the next big thing in celebrity hairdos. Brittney is doing it! Now, we know she supposedly went bald because she thought lice were eating her hair extensions (!), which sounds eerily and conspicuously like the symptoms of methamphetamine abuse to me.

Remind me to work on a composite image of what John Edwards might look like as a chromedome. Maybe he can book Britney for a few campaign appearances -- you know, to help the girl "get up out of that wheelchair and walk again" as it were.

"US-Israel relationship" is yet another area where Edwards is wrong. Though it IS ridiculous for him to say that Israel presents the greatest short-term threat to world peace.

Only in the sense that it conflicts with the nuanced (read: spoken primarily in whispers) interpretation that Hollywood Jews have toward their home country. Edwards' problem was not so much one of voicing a controversial idea, he just didn't do it quietly enough. That's the big sin. "Cosmopolitan liberal" Jews are torn very deeply by the fact that the only steadfast voices in support of Israel have come from the Right. They're either ambivalent about Israel or they express their support for it behind closed doors. Edwards committed a big social faux pas first by voicing a candid opinion about Israel and its security in a public forum and secondly by bringing up one of the main bones of contention that the wishy-washy liberal Jews in America are debating themselves.

The main reason the comment is getting so much attention is that Edwards is not a Jew himself -- and so broaching the subject publicly is verboten for him, especially when he's addressing an audience of Hollywood hangers-on. I think a lot of them are looking for a way to quietly support Israel without giving any credit to the Republicans or anyone else on the Right for actually having been the only steadfast supporters of Israel all these past few years. It's a Pure Clinton move.

Edwards stuck his foot in his mouth so badly is that the Hollywood Elite are grooming Barack Obama to be the Peacemaker Presidential candidate. Obama is seen as "Mr. Kumbaya" because of his background (the basic theory is that electing a President from a Muslim background will stop the Islamofascists from hating us) and Edwards was stepping on his turf.

This has only reached the pages of Variety because Edwards made himself look like a schmendrick Gentile.

Why exactly is supporting the US-Israel relationship wrong? And if you believe this, which Republican candidate are you supporting? (hint: each one running is strongly in support of the US-Israel relationship, save Chuck Hagel)

When and Why did Conservatives become so supportive?

The Jewish vote has historically been Democratic but in recent years it seems that Republicans challenge each other to be Israel's best friend.

Change is fascinating.

But the thought of Iran getting nukes is about to set off an arms race in the region ?

And the US has exactly one ally in the ME? For once it has nothing to do with garnering a few votes, it actually has to do with our national interest.

In the 1967 Six Day war, the fight was arguably between Israel as a satellite of the U.S and the Arab states as satellites of the Soviet Union. Despite Israel being a socialist state, they decided in the 1950s to align with the U.S.
In more recent times, the Palestinians dancing with glee during 9/11 turned off more then a couple conservatives, along with their electing the terrorist group Hamas to lead them. Also, Palestinians supported Saddam Hussein in the first gulf war.
For a thorough account, I suggest "Power, Faith, and Fantasy" by Michael Oren.
