Bob Latta on Abortion

Right now we've got an important special election going on in Ohio between Republican Bob Latta, and the commie Robin Weirauch. As a resident of the district, I can tell you first hand how extremist Robin Weirauch is. Even right now Nancy Pelosi and her band of America hating friends are trying to push Weirauch to a victory. Normally I'd be knocking on doors and doing everything that I could to fight off the DUMBocrats. But not this time.
Republicans had a chance to have a true conservative run in this election, Steve Buehrer. Unfortunately Steve lost in a nail biter. Steve was endorsed by the club for growth because he's the type of person our party is all about. I figure once our elected officials turn their backs on us, we have to turn our backs on them. That's the only way we're going to return conservative values to our party. Don't believe me that Bob Latta isn't conservative enough? Then consider this:
REPRESENTATIVE BOB LATTA’S REAL POSITION ON ABORTION
• Representative Latta was criticized by the Republican National Coalition for Life because he supports abortion to protect the health of the mother
• Republican National Coalition for Life: Latta “would not vote to make abortion illegal.”
REPRESENTATIVE LATTA CRITICIZED BY REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COALITION FOR LIFE FOR SUPPORTING HEALTH OF MOTHER EXCEPTION
In a Monday, November 5, 2007 blog entry, the Republican National Coalition for Life criticized Latta for his position on abortion.
On the organization’s questionnaire, Latta marked that he supported the right to an abortion in order to protect the health of the mother.
The group’s questionnaire notes that “that the U.S. Supreme Court in Doe v. Bolton defined ‘health’ in the context of abortion to include ‘all factors — physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman’s age — relevant to the well being of the patient.’ This broad definition has led to the sanctioning of abortion-on-demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy.” Republican National Coalition for Life, 11/5/07; Candidate
COALITION FOR LIFE: REPRESENTATIVE LATTA “WOULD NOT VOTE TO MAKE ABORTION ILLEGAL”
The Republican National Coalition for Life’s blog states that Latta “would not vote to make abortion illegal.”
“While Rep. Latta has voted pro-life on legislation to restrict or regulate the practice of abortion, his answers to the RNC/Life Candidate Questionnaire indicate that he would not vote to make abortion illegal,” the organization wrote. Republican National Coalition for Life,

Next Tuesday, November 6th, there will be a special election to fill the open seat in the 5th Congressional District of Ohio.
The Republican National Coalition for Life PAC mailed our Candidate Questionnaire ( http://www.rnclife.org/misc/cand_ques.html) to State Senator Steve Buehrer and State Representative Bob Latta.
Their responses revealed that Senator Buehrer’s position on the life issues is 100% consistent with RNC/Life and the Republican National Platform.
Representative Latta’s answers were also consistent with RNC/Life, except for Question number 3.
Question 3 “Do you think a mother should have the legal right to abortion for any of the following reasons:”
a. The baby was conceived through rape or incest (Rep. Latta left it blank)
b. The baby has a handicap (Rep. Latta Left it blank)
c. The baby has a genetic defect (Rep. Latta left it blank)
RNC/Life considers unanswered questions to be a negative response.
d. The health of the mother (Rep. Latta checked YES)
Support for legal abortion because of a “health” exception is decidedly a pro-abortion-choice position. If you read the questionnaire, you will see that RNC/Life carefully explains how the term “health” is defined in Doe v. Bolton, the companion Supreme Court decision to Roe v. Wade. “Health’ is defined to include “all factors—physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman’s age—relevant to the well being of the patient.” This broad definition has led to the sanctioning of abortion on demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
While Rep. Latta has voted pro-life on legislation to restrict or regulate the practice of abortion, his answers to the RNC/Life Candidate Questionnaire indicate that he would not vote to make abortion illegal. Republican National Coalition for Life,
I agree - Steve Bueher was a LOT better. Latta definitely sounds like a moderate RINO for sure. But, he won the primary, and it's best to support him now.
“.....women and minorities hardest hit”
..if, as is likely, Latta wins, will he have to run in another primary in March? Is Buehrer going to run against him?
I'm *highly* suspicious of people who come here and essentially call for unilateral conservative disarmament in a district.
Where have all the conservative, good government Republicans gone?

Well, we're kind of beyond this now. His opponent is worse than he on this position.
On most other positions, he is better than she.
Sometimes you must choose the lesser of two evils.
Fight On!
