Posted at 9:13pm on Jan. 28, 2008 Classic Rudy - 2004 Address to Republican Convention - Worth Another Look
By strange__guy
I'm proud to be a supporter of Rudy Giuliani in his quest to be President of this great country.
I would have to look back to the 70's to find a party so divided and to find a candidate that I believed in so strongly, although, to be honest I worked pretty hard for our current President as well.
As a member of the business community I respect those who under-promise and over-deliver, but I love those who promise much and yet still exceed your expectations. In a nutshell, that is the story of Rudy Giuliani and I have high expectations.
I've written before about the Mayor's interaction with my family in the aftermath of that beautiful September morning and it's profound effect upon us.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that has considered the fact that when America was attacked it was Rudy Giuliani that all of America looked to for answers that day, even John McCain, who was in hiding, "in order to preserve the functioning of the government" or some such nonsense. (But lets be grateful he came out of hiding to do the whole Amnesty thing with his good friend Teddy - The Swimmer - Kennedy, and to run for Pres)
I'm also proud to have grown up in NYC and to have personally seen how that great city was transformed under the leadership of a man to whom conservatism isn't a book on the shelf, but a method of governing and yes even the answer to many of the questions presented to government.
God Bless you Rudy, good luck tomorrow and no matter the outcome, you are a great American and an asset to our party, an now I'm proud to remind everyone of one of our Presidents leading cheerleaders in the last election cycle.
Remarks by The Honorable Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of the city of New York, as prepared for delivery at the 2004 Republican National Convention on Monday, Aug. 30, 2004:
Welcome to the capital of the world.
New York was the first capital of our great nation. It was here in 1789 in lower Manhattan that George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States.

By strange__guy
Mine is a political family and the holidays are a favorite time for the discussion of such things. Nothing like getting twenty to thirty of us together for good food, family, libations and some good finger pointing - table slapping discussions.
The tone this year was again a bit subdued as it's been the last couple of years, unless I personally get things going due to an ongoing illness that seems to be showing it's effects on me, but I'll be damned if I'm going to give up on living altogether and to me politics is like breathing, not something you have to think about, it's just something you do.

Posted at 7:23pm on Sep. 30, 2007 The Rudy phone Call - in his own words
By strange__guy
In his own words...
From CBN, David Brody asks Rudy about the phone call that has so many scratching their heads... (video as well)
David Brody: I know there was some positive press from the cell phone call and there was some negative press. Do you care to clear that up?
Rudy Giuliani: Sure. My wife calls me when she gets on a plane. We'd just gotten back from England, hadn't had much sleep. I knew she was going to take a plane, but I didn't know which one she was going to take back to New York, and quite honestly since Sept. 11 most of the time when we get on a plane we talk to each other and just reaffirm the fact that we love each other.

Posted at 7:24pm on Aug. 1, 2007 Rudy Giuliani - "worse than Bush" - but polling well in NH and Iowa
By strange__guy
Rudy Giuliani has recently been dubbed the "worse than Bush" candidate by some of the left's media arm in America.
Rolling Stone in June had an article called "Giuliani: Worse than Bush" and now in the August issue of Harper's is, "A Fate Worse Than Bush: Rudolph Giuliani and the Politics of Personality."
How is it possible that the leftist media can dare describe anyone in America as "worse than Bush" after the last six years of unending pessimism and attack politics? What is the motivation behind the attacks and who could have ever considered anyone could be "worse", in their eyes, than Bush?

Posted at 5:32pm on Jul. 25, 2007 New WAPO Poll, Rudy Rocks
By strange__guy
In todays Washington Post the results of the latest WAPO/ABC show America's Mayor with a commanding lead over all rivals for the Republican nomination.
Tabbed Data
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll of the GOP field shows Giuliani with a sizable lead over his three principal rivals. The former mayor was the choice of 37 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, well ahead of Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and former senator Fred D. Thompson (Tenn.). McCain and Thompson, who has not officially declared his candidacy, are virtually tied at 16 and 15 percent, respectively. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney came in fourth, with 8 percent.
This is despite Ron Paul's support surging 100% over the last poll conducted, his numbers, not mentioned above, jumped from 1% to an amazing 2% in just six weeks. It's unclear if Ron Paul's huge increase is due to Jim Gilmore exiting the race or if the same supporter was called twice by mistake. (if the mystery is solved I'll update) /snark

Posted at 4:10pm on Jun. 21, 2007 UPI/Zogby Shocker - Americans Don't Like Immigration Bill
By strange__guy
In a poll of 8,300, with a MOE of 1.1% Americans say...
Some 56.4 percent of U.S. participants in a June 15-18 Zogby interactive poll view the bill either very unfavorably (39.9 percent) or somewhat unfavorably (16.5 percent). Another 29.6 percent said they were somewhat favorable about it and 8 percent gave very favorable as an answer.
A clear majority (57.5 percent) of Republican respondents and a plurality (45.6 percent) of those asked who said they were politically independent viewed the bill very unfavorably while a plurality (44.8 percent) of Democrats said they felt somewhat favorable to the measure.

By strange__guy
Text of the floor debate as noted below, worth a read (Harry Reid is a sniveling worm).
No commentary, this is for context, I have cropped out some of the non germane sections ie: stem cell...
For all the folks knocking everyone associated with this bill, there are some that deserve it and some that don't.
Read this for democracy in action, too bad it's like a re-run where you already know what happens at the end, but some of the dialog is pretty compelling.

Posted at 9:01pm on May 14, 2007 If Rudy's so done and over, why do some Redstates disagree?
By strange__guy
This past weekend a St. Petersburg Times/Bay News 9 poll showed Rudy Giuliani leading John McCain by nearly 2-1 statewide.
Florida is considered a Redstate and has a large voting block of what could be considered social conservatives yet his message is still working despite the recent furor on conservative blogs and in the MSM.
Of note, one thing that stood out in the article was a statement that "more than seven in 10 Florida voters said they already are following the race somewhat closely or very closely. This early, that seems like a huge number and if that's the case it's unlikely that many can claim as Rudy's views become more widely known his numbers will continue to drop.

Posted at 9:54pm on Apr. 27, 2007 Democratic drumbeat of defeat and death - Harry Reid Must Step Down
By strange__guy
In Iraq last year during the summer months American military casualties were, 61 in June, 43 in July and then as the election cycle started ramping up along with the rhetoric so did the attacks, 65 in August, 72 in September.
Then when Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were at their loudest so too were the terrorists in Iraq, October itself, 106. In the few days before the elections in November as the democrats beat the drumbeat of defeat, 21 American soldiers died. In all, that November 70 soldiers were killed in action. In December there were another 112, January 07, 83, Feb, 80, March another 81 and this month so far another 90.

By strange__guy
I live in the Northeast and have been fond of traveling the region in search of camping spots, new places to fish, ski or what have you, we are your typical middle class family.
As time has progressed though my politics have tended to impact my spending as I have a problem with giving money to causes or people who actively work against my belief system.
At work for example, when it came time for charitable contributions if the organization gave money to planned parenthood, well they were not going to get a donation and that's that, my wife and I can better choose the charities based on our faith and give generously to them.

The Vice President has a potentially life threatening health issue as noted on the front page, http://www.redstate.com/stories/breaking_news/cheney_has_a_blood_clot
It didn't take long to get a reaction from the left blogosphere...
Along with the report on one site is the following text,
"I know most of us here don't approve of Cheney, but calling for his demise or ill-health is unacceptable. Any such comments will be deleted."

By strange__guy
A note to my fellow Redstaters,
It's been my pleasure to have found this site and participate in some of the fun. Early on I mostly enjoyed just reading and then had to join and become "part" of the discussion.
As a life long conservative it was such a pleasure to be able to actually find people that could not only have an intellectual political discussion, but to have it over the finer points of conservatism.

A suicide bomber detonated an explosive outside the base where VP Dick Cheney is staying in Afghanistan, it's reported that he is fine and was not injured although there are varied reports of up to 20 dead and 11 injured.
So far what's missing from all reporting, outrage...
from slate it looks like the anti-American news roundup...
