Posted at 12:15am on Jul. 8, 2008 Study: Military gays don't undermine unit cohesion

By tankertodd

This is crap.
Call it a product of a panel of retired generals with liberal guilt. You know, the Wesley Clark Foundation.

These yahoos, including one who allegedly implemented the policy under Clinton in 1993, assert that gays in the military don't hurt unit cohesion. Unfortunately their study has one seriously fatal error: it cites Israel and Great Britain as their case studies.

Posted at 5:50pm on Jun. 30, 2008 Quick piece of evidence on how Obama is MORE of the SAME

By tankertodd

I thought this was a classic quote from the Obama Campaign that speaks to Obama's highly political business as usual.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said: “Senator Obama had a terrific conversation with President Clinton and is honored to have his support in this campaign. He has always believed that Bill Clinton is one of this nation’s great leaders and most brilliant minds, and looks forward to seeing him on the campaign trail and receiving his counsel in the months to come."

Posted at 11:28pm on Jun. 7, 2008 Time writer tells Obama NOT to go to Iraq: It's a Trap!

By tankertodd

Who knew Time hired a columnist who could play Admiral Ackbar so well. This writer Peter Beinart is so, so wrong that it's amazing that he's a senior fellow of anything. (Of course I'm not even senior fellow of my living room.)

He tells Obama NOT to pick up the challenge McCain laid to him to actually visit Iraq before deciding to quit it after all the blood and treasure invested there. His supporting points? Why, a diplomat who served under Jimmy Carter, and the New York Times. So you can already tell where we're going here.

Posted at 9:26am on May 15, 2008 I'm back to being excited about a John McCain presidency

By tankertodd

Like many of you I turned shades of green as John McCain highlighted his "green" policy approach for alleged CO2 pollution and fictional Global Warming. But today's points from the McCain camp have re-energized me for a McCain candidacy.

Posted at 10:38am on Apr. 16, 2008 Murtha declares McCain too old to be Pres, but young enough to be a crook

By tankertodd

Democratic Representative John Murtha declares that John McCain is too old to be President. Murtha is 75 years old, or 4 years older than McCain. However, when Murtha was asked if McCain was old enough to be a career looter of taxpayers dollars, Murtha gave an emphatic yes. "Shiat son, at 75 I'm just getting started myself!" more below

Posted at 11:59pm on Apr. 6, 2008 Who needs a bailout? It's a great time to be foreclosed on!

By tankertodd

The message on foreclosure we grew up with was simple: it was the baddie in a black cape with a oiled moustache kicking the poor unfortunate farmers out their home after foreclosing on them. Foreclosure came swiftly, probably after the baddie bought the note from the original bank, and now decided to take the property outright.

We're learning how absolutely foolish this story is. First, we learn that borrowers who can't make payments have an excellent option: walk away. Because many put little to no money down on their homes, all they lose is the money they put in. The cost of the home becomes their rent.

Now, we're learning that banks are in no rush to kick people out of their homes. And this makes perfect sense.

Posted at 12:38pm on Apr. 3, 2008 Wisconsin votes out liberal Supreme Court judge - there is hope in Cheeseland

By tankertodd

There's some gouda news coming out of Wisconsin (ok no more cheese jokes).

The Wall Street Journal tells us about Governor Doyle's appointee who got sacked by the electorate.

Hurrah for accountable judges.

You can read the full article, but apparently this judge was interested in novel concepts like "risk contribution" payouts for defendants. Nice. But the real treat for you is the winning judge, Michael Gableman. Read his original announcement to seek office on his website. This is a judge we can all love (great quotes below):

Posted at 11:10am on Mar. 23, 2008 Google is decidedly anti-Christian!

By tankertodd

Google continues to annoy me into disliking them. Once again, Google gives Christianity a big fat snub by ignoring the holiday (or Holy Day) by not customizing its main page logo.

This is a small thing. But they do customize their logo for Earth Day, for Chinese New Year, Lego Day, Yuri Gagarin Day, and many other occasions. But not for Christmas, and apparently not for Easter. More below...

Posted at 10:23am on Mar. 12, 2008 David Mamet comes out as a conservative, or at least libertarian

By tankertodd

I hate blogging mostly about a link on Drudge but I can't help myself. I just enjoyed reading* Mamet's piece in the Village Voice where he essentially comes out as a conservative. Delicious.

Posted at 1:09am on Mar. 12, 2008 Banks bring down Client Number 9

By tankertodd

Banks, like many institutions, take a lot of hits in America. After all, it's hard to love the rich guys who own your house. So when they do something right those who criticize ought to praise, and fortunately an opportunity for fairness has arrived.

Apparently, the Spitzer investigation launched based on banks filing suspicious-activity reports. more below

Posted at 7:15pm on Feb. 14, 2008 Rich kid starts life with $25 and in a shelter - and makes it

By tankertodd

This story is a great testament to the American Dream.

It sets a benchmark for what is possible and what role the individual plays in escaping from poverty.

The best quote goes along the line of asking this kid if his college education contributed to his success. "How much of a college education do you need to budget your money to a point that you're not spending frivolously, but you're instead putting your money in the bank?"

Posted at 3:57pm on Jan. 14, 2008 "Mitt Romney has a reputation of saying anything to win" - Gov Swift

By tankertodd

I have tried to put a finger on what bothers me about Romney. The substance seems to be good, but I'm hesitant to support him, and perhaps the title of this entry is why. This line really stuck with me in this hit piece.

My purpose in sharing is not to slam Romney. My vote is still very much in play. I just thought I'd share just because until now I couldn't put my finger on what's wrong with Romney, and perhaps others feel the same.

Posted at 3:22pm on Jan. 8, 2008 Five Reasons to Cheer for an Obama Nomination

By tankertodd

1. Nomination of a black person as a presidential candidate is huge, almost as huge as electing one. This drives one more nail into the coffin of the racist policies this country follows under the guise of “affirmative action.” There are public and private organizations that make hiring judgments based on the color of a person’s skin. If that isn’t wrong I don’t know what is. America is the nation where it’s not who you are, but what you do. That’s not the case in most countries. On top of that, this guy’s middle name is Hussein and last name Obama, evocative of Saddam and Osama. If we demonstrate the tolerance to put this guy up for President that will resonate in the rest of the world far more than any Democrat-contrived program to “get the world to like us again.” Actions speak louder.

2. The ABC principle: Anybody But Clinton. read on...

Posted at 10:08am on Dec. 10, 2007 Drudge Puts a Fork in Huckabee for me - Willie Horton redux

By tankertodd

I'm sure you're all reading the Huckabee piece on the murderer he made eligible for parole.

This jives with the earlier story about Huckabee pardoning more in Arkansas than all the other surrounding states combined. (Sorry no link)

Add to this the other Drudge mainline article on Huckabee's views on government doing the work of Christ, and my earlier concerns about electing a man of the cloth become more troubling. More below

Posted at 12:35am on Dec. 5, 2007 Never mind the Mormon, can we elect a PREACHER as president?

By tankertodd

How ironic that that nation is focused on Mitt Romney's religious beliefs as a Mormon, yet the nation ignores Huckabee's past as a Baptist pastor. I would argue that the latter case makes Huckabee more unelectable than being Mormon.

First, look at the prejudices that non-Republicans have for conservatives. Conservatives are "religious hypocrites," who are just like the litany of disgraced evangelist religious leaders or of Catholic priests. The talking point is that religious leaders are ridiculous and love to practice the opposite of what they preach. Larry Flynt paid money to expose conservative moral hypocrites and got himself some skins. Huckabee's past makes him a bigger target and a taller lightening rod.
