By tennessee_conservative

I feel like the year 2007 never existed. Here we are at the end of the year, and all 2007 has been is a giant lead-in to 2008. Now, coming into the Iowa caucus, it's all coming to a head. I've seen more outright assaults against republicans from republicans in the past couple of weeks - especially in the last couple of days - than I think I ever have.

What we have to realize is that whoever the republican party nominates, that person will have to become the candidate for all of us in the general. It is too early in an all too important election cycle to burn those bridges. I will be the first to acknowledge that we lost 2006 because republicans got moderate instead of sticking to conservative principles, but by attempting to eliminate other candidates so "your guy" has a better shot is extremely dangerous. What if after spending all of the primary season trying to destroy John McCain's bid (for example), he becomes the nominee. After convincing yourself for almost an entire year that John McCain would be W.C.S. (worst-case scenario) for the republican party, doesn't it become a bit hard to ever support his candidacy - no matter who he's against? If you are one of those people who say the "would never" or "couldn't" vote for in the general - especially if you also believe that republicans lost because of shying away from conservatism - then you are part of the problem, not the solution.

With that spirit in mind, I will now lay out my analysis of the top tier candidates.

I remember reading on this site not more than a few months ago a cynical and sarcastic comment on the next environmental problem that will be rolled out after global warming expires. "Global Temperance" that would cause the fashion industry all kinds of hell because there would be no difference between winter and summer - gasp - was the postulated environmental disaster.

Well, global warming's not dead yet, but guess what?
