Following a historic Supreme Court ruling, Washington DC Mayor Anthony Fenton held forth

As mayor, although I'm disappointed in the court's ruling ... it is important to both respect the court's authority and then to act quickly.”

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said

We want to keep the number of public demonstration opportunities in the District to a minimum, but we're going to follow through and respect the decision of the courts.

Posted at 9:44pm on Jun. 16, 2008 Red Staters in MD Congressional District 4: It's Time to Vote!

By The Gadfly

Polls are open for a special election tomorrow June 17. Republican Peter James is running against Democrat Donna Edwards to replace the far left Albert Wynn. In the last Maryland election only 4.3% of the state voted for office, so this might be our one shot at putting a Republican in office in the People's Republic of MD.

Okay, okay, I looked at his web page and he's a bit loony.

Walking home from work tonight was an eye opener. It's not a long walk from my office building to the Silver Spring metro station; I can usually do it in about 8 minutes. Most nights I switch into Frogger obstacle avoidance mode (because of how badly timed the lights are at the intersection of Georgia Ave and Colesville Road I find it necessary to cross Georgia where there is no marked crosswalk, although it is an intersection). Tonight the observation mode jumped from code orange to code yellow. Right in front of me was by the Texaco gas station was a bunch of chanting jumping, well from first identification distance, I wasn't sure. But I had seen signs or heard something about a protest in front of the Discovery Building to save the planet from the Discovery Channel. (Don't ask me, I couldn't figure that one out either. But hey, who says anybody it the AGW cabal has even the slightest glimmer of an outline of what the rest of us call 'logic.') I figured the last thing I needed was to try to walk through them, lose my self-restraint and become tomorrow's Washington Post front page headline (The Times would probably bury me on page 4 where I'd belong). So I diverted from the sidewalk into the traffic area of the Texaco, and that was when it started to hit me.
