Posted at 2:30pm on Jun. 10, 2008 Obama "Works" in a St. Louis Hospital

By tsquare

So, Obama was in town, and for reasons that escape me, "worked" for awhile in one of our hospitals. You can read all about it here:

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/stor...

Clearly the press is against him, as the article doesn't mention a single person cured... no blind people seeing after his visit, no one lame, walking again.

Posted at 1:00am on May 15, 2008 Election ’08 We’re Screwed…?

By tsquare

Well it looks to be Obama v McCain. One of them will be elected. Someone should tell Bob Barr… but be nice about it. Also you can try and tell Ralph Nader… you don’t have to be nice about it.

One of them will win, one will lose. We the country are screwed either way.

If Obama wins, joyful riots will turn into mobs and cities will burn. (think of most any NBA final)
If Obama loses, hateful riots will quickly turn into mobs and cities will burn.

Posted at 10:49am on Apr. 22, 2008 Great News!

By tsquare

This morning I come to you with good news… great news even for those of you that like / back Obama…

John McCain can not win! Bob Beckel says so!

"Why McCain Can't Win"

(For those of you too young to remember, Bob Beckel helped Jimmy carter give away the Panama Canal and then ran Walter Mondale’s 1984 race. Past that the only other thing I could find was in 2004 a 300/hr hooker tried to extort 50k out of him to ‘stay quiet’ Boy she sure didn’t know about Democrats did she?)

Posted at 1:42pm on Feb. 6, 2008 Wait! Maybe McCain is Perfect for this Election

By tsquare

Gentle Folks:

Many of you, like me, are not all that happy with the idea of John McCain leading our party this fall. I understand, really I do. But allow me to propose a ‘radical’ idea:

McCain is the one man that we, the GOP, need to have in this election.

I’ll try and explain

You all have seen what I’ve been seeing and saying, for some weeks now.

It will be a fight till the end, and Hillary will do anything, and I mean ANYTHING to win the Democratic nomination. Lie, cheat, steal, use up all of her and Bill’s money, anything.

Posted at 3:55pm on Jan. 20, 2008 Ticket Building

By tsquare

(this started out as a comment in the Fred Thread)

Fred should endorse no one right now. There are four guys still in this thing

There can be only one*…

And Fred would make a good addition to the tickets of three out of the four…

Rudy… Thompson would bring along those that supported Huckabee, adding conservative heft to the ticket, as well as geographic balance. Fred would help those in the party that really wouldn’t be happy with Rudy. And add a southern face to the ticket

Posted at 12:25pm on Nov. 7, 2007 Might Next Year’s GOP Convention Be Brokered?

By tsquare

Might next year’s GOP convention be ‘brokered?’

Could happen… and if it does it will be the first time a major party actually selected it’s ticket AT the convention in over 50 years.

Might things end up, going into the convention, with delegate counts something like this:

Rudy 30%
Thompson 25%
Romney 21%
McCain 9%
Huckabee 8%
Everybody else: 7%

Any two of the top three could make a deal for the ticket.

Posted at 5:05pm on Sep. 24, 2007 A GOP win in 2008

By tsquare

Late last week I was ‘commissioned’ to write something about the 2008 election for an email newsletter. I choose to write about the ‘eventuality’ of a Hillary victory. I’ll spare you reading it, as I’ve made most of the points contained in it here already.

Instead, my thoughts on how the GOP might just win in 2008.

The general consensus is that this is impossible. If, as some insist, the country is enraged over the Iraq war, then maybe the GOP can’t win, and it will be a loss on the order of 1974.

Instead, I think that it will be more like 1980. Or could be.

Posted at 2:56pm on Sep. 14, 2007 Dancing Bears and Iraqi Politics

By tsquare

Something occurred to me earlier today. Maybe I should have thought of it, seen it earlier, but hey, I don’t do this for a living, and with all the different claims thrown around by both the Democrats and the talking heads… well this thought got lost.

There is an old Russian saying that goes: “it’s not how graceful the bear dances but that the bear is dancing at all.”

That should tell us everything we need to know about politics in Iraq… but it probably not enough for you. Allow me to explain.

Posted at 10:31pm on Aug. 1, 2007 Obama embraces the Rodney King foreign policy

By tsquare

Stop me if you've heard this one:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/08/the_war_we_need_to_win...

"The lesson of the Bush years is that not talking does not work. Go down the list of countries we've ignored and see how successful that strategy has been. We haven't talked to Iran, and they continue to build their nuclear program. We haven't talked to Syria, and they continue support for terror. We tried not talking to North Korea, and they now have enough material for 6 to 8 more nuclear weapons.

Posted at 12:16pm on Jun. 27, 2007 I don’t see how a Democrat will win the White House in 2008. Part Two

By tsquare

Thanks to everyone commenting yesterday... much food for thought

Now part Two

Funny that we could be having this discussion yesterday and today we have some new polling in… specifically for FL OH & PA

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x2882.xml?ReleaseID=1079

“Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani is losing ground in the 2008 general election and Republican primaries in three critical states - Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to Quinnipiac University's Swing State Poll, three simultaneous surveys of voters in states that have been pivotal in presidential elections since 1964.

By tsquare

I don’t see how a Democrat will win the White House in 2008.

Yeah I know… but stay with me for a bit.

The leader in the polls is and has been from the start Hillary. It would take… gee, I don’t know what to keep her from winning the nomination. Assume she does…

Polls tell us several things about her. The first is even with everything going on and the all the Bush/GOP hate in the country she is only in a ‘dead heat’ with Rudy. Second, 43% of the country polled says that they will not vote for her under “any circumstance” Which means that of the 57% that would vote for her she has to “run the table” Can she? Sure. Will she, especially after she “destroys” Obama to do so? To do what she must to win the nomination just might be what kills her in the general election.

By tsquare

Arrrrum…

Gentlefolks…

I hardly believe it, but am I the first (only?) person to think of this?

How about a Lame Duck session?

Yeah, I know, likely wouldn’t get all that much done, ie: passed, but still, some interesting election fodder could be made…

Extend the tax cuts
Immigration (again)
Military budget

And a hot of things that I’m just not thinking of at the moment

Posted at 3:21pm on Sep. 2, 2006 A Class Act...

By tsquare

The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that both Roger Wilson & Claire McCaskill have condemned the movie to run on British Channel 4

http://www.stltoday.com/blogs/news-politicalfix/2006/09/mccaskill-joinin...

Said Wilson: “With the number of the irrational acts occurring in the world and the onslaught of copycat crimes being committed, this is inexcusable, irresponsible and reprehensible. I am disappointed that someone would think it is appropriate to depict the murder of an American president. Neither myself nor the Missouri Democratic Party condone this absence of responsibility.”
