A couple of articles in this morning's Baton Rouge Advocate that bode well for life in Louisiana under soon-to-be Governor Bobby Jindal (R). (Darn, but that has a nice ring to it!)
Jindal May Push Charter Schools
As issues, charter schools and school choice should be big winners for Republicans nationwide. Louisiana is the perfect laboratory to try them in a big way. There is no one that can say that the public school system has anywhere to go but up.
Education officials predict that Jindal’s election means:Read on . . .
* A near-certain push for more charter schools statewide.
* A new effort to legalize state financial aid to families who use private and parochial schools, known as vouchers.
* Renewed discussions of merit-based pay for public school teachers. All three items are generally opposed by the Louisiana Association of Educators and the Louisiana Federation of Teachers, the state’s top two teacher unions. [Do tell. - ed.]
Neither group backed Jindal this year or in his loss to Gov. Kathleen Blanco in 2003. [emphasis added]

Jindal’s Win Might Attract More Indians
No, this has nothing to do with Native American casinos. That was Edwin Edwards' recovery plan (for himself, not for the state). Seriously, LA needs all the educated, entrepreneurial people we can get; maybe New Orleans will become Mumbai on the Bayou!
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!

Wiccan schools in Maryland and Illinois (not charter schools...yet). Wonder if a private voodoo charter school could get started in NOLA.
