If Brownback enters the race he will face some big hurdles. First, Senators simply do not make good presidential candidates. The Senate rarely initiates bold ideas so it is hard to find a particular shining achievement to demonstrate the ability to run the country. I don't pretend to be an expert on Brownback's record, but I suspect that he doesn't have the type of record that would make him instantly identifiable as a Ronald Reagan conservative. I think he voted for expanding the Medicare drug benefit and the No Child Left Behind intrusion into public school's. That is not exactly something that would warm the Gipper's heart.
