Ron Paul

The policy prohibiting new users from posting about Ron Paul is ridiculous. Is it not the purpose of Redstate and every other blog site to communicate? I am a member and I want freedom of speech on Redstate.
So with that, I have a few comments on Ron Paul.
< Original comments deleted as an unintended consequence of the Ron Paul policy. >
So, in conclusion, I stand by my statement.
So it's next year that you start to read English? Too bad: we're adults here. No sandboxes here to pound in.
Apologies that I didn't repair my snark-o-meter before popping off.
It's really been a long week facing the onslaught of votaries of HWMNBN.
Which means that he can pimp Ron Paul! Ron Paul! Ron Paul! and not get tossed for it. He can also continue to get wrong the difference between speech rights and property rights, but then that's par for the course for these guys.

I crave your pardon, sir: I wrote hastily, and retract it fully.

Seems like a post comparing HWMNBN to a crusading quixotic bunny who is singularly incompetent to actually identify, let alone solve, any problems would be right up your alley.

Oh but it sucks to be me.
At least this time I have a "kind of" excuse, I'm on my SmartPhone and it's not smart enough to do embedded video so I can't watch it.
Mea culpa...

Is that your backpack? Mind if I go potty on it? After I take your cell phone and excercise my free speech rights?
Oh, leave it alone - it's your phone you say? And I have no right to go potty on your stuff?
OK. Sure.
before deciding what's going on here.
Should have put in new batteries before responding earlier.
The idea that RedState, or any media, must guarantee your ability to say what you wish unfettered is beyond rubbish. This is ironic given that Ron Paul wraps himself in the Constitution so much he has the whole thing imprinted on a 800-count Egyptian cotton king-size sheet set. (Pillow cases are the Bill of Rights, and the shams bearing the Gettysburg Address and Emancipation Proclamation were no extra charge.) Anyway, I'm sure the document would clarify your view.
You have no right to "free speech" on this private website. Re-read your terms and conditions. If the media granted free speech, we would have 1) anarchy, and 2) no role for editors.
/I've been an editor myself, and have to chuckle a little at the gleeful nature of our editors' willingness to exercise *their* "rights". It requires judgment and a sense of reason that most do not possess, and they are doing a fine job.

It was pretty funny, too.

Is it typical at Redstate to be criticized for things one does not say?
I didn't claim that Redstate must allow me to say what I wish unfettered. I merely said I didn't like the current policy and that I believe the policy should be free speech.
Now, let's discuss your accusation here. I don't suppose that you kept a screenshot of the post in question? I'm asking because normally we're pretty gleeful about at least giving some clue that we've corrected an objectionable blog/comment, and I'm not seeing any of the tells there. Also, don't you think that you want to go back and add a link from your second blog entry back to this one?

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression from government interference. Freedom of expression consists of the rights to freedom of speech, press, assembly and to petition the government for a redress of grievances, and the implied rights of association and belief. The Supreme Court interprets the extent of the protection afforded to these rights. The First Amendment has been interpreted by the Court as applying to the entire federal government even though it is only expressly applicable to Congress. Furthermore, the Court has interpreted, the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment as protecting the rights in the First Amendment from interference by state governments.
(emphasis added)
The last time I checked, Redstate was not associated with the federal government, nor any state government.
Expressly, or otherwise.

You're arguing with yourself. I did not attempt to invoke the First Amendment to say that Redstate must allow free speech. That would be ridiculous.
I merely stated that I didn't like the policy and that in my opinion the policy should be free speech.
Wouldn't it make for a better discussion if you addressed what I said rather than something I didn't say?
...for somebody who just accused us of changing this diary.
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!
I am not making a wild accusation. The bulk of the post that I put up last night was removed and replaced with that cartoon. That is a fact, not an accusation.
And, yes, it's an accusation. It is a fact that you are accusing us of doing it. Now, while I'm being polite and treating that accusation as being founded, you should know that if someone cops to it the most that's going to happen is that I'm going to ask them to let you know why they did it.
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!
An argument is only one's interpretation.
A fact is indisputable.
Given the title of the original post, I preemptively posted a statement of fact for the benefit of anyone choosing to participate in this thread.

It's amazing to me that just the mention of "him" can inspire such instant execration.
Yes, this site is private property and the owners, can, at any time, decide what can or cannot be allowed. They can take their ball and go home, or they can choose to only play with those kids who look like them or think like them and simply shun, ridicule, & berate the rest.
What fun would it be if we had to entertain differing points of view? No, this is our clubhouse! Our clubhouse, our rules!

contained! Yes, this one produced instant and knee-jerk comments which were later retracted--apparently you missed that part? Your remark that RedState only wants those who "look like them or think like them" is worthy of only ridicule. We, for the most part, have no idea what any other poster here looks like, and, as for the thinking like each other part, you have only to read three or four comments under any given diary to know that THAT is so far from the truth as to be science fiction.
Your comment here is worthy of the most fervent RP supporter--and that's no compliment.
As he's claiming that, no, he didn't put up the video in the first place. Pity: that post was much more interesting when it looked like a subversive take on our preconceived notions about Ron Paul supporters.

maybe there IS a reasonable voice crying out from that particularly fevered wilderness, it starts to yodel and spout the standard gibberish.
Clubhouses are more fun when your invitees share your values. (You wouldn't deny the right to pick your friends, right?) And while there are conservatives who support Ron Paul, we've been inundated with Paulites who DON'T share the "conservative and Republican values" this site is meant to support.
Ron Paul is legal to mention - if you've been around here long enough to show you're a part of the community, instead of a fly-by-nighter on a bombing run. We've never had much tolerance for the latter. The only real difference is the editors have changed to a policy that's easier to enforce.
If Paul is getting too harshly attacked now, his supporters have earned it for him. I note that he's more than welcome to clean house if he wants more respect.
especially after the set up making me think it supported HWMNBN...

As I just told Wild Bill in an email, I'm the guy who replaced his diary with a Crusader Rabbit video. I have two things to say about that:
- I screwed up. I used Firefox's 'tab' feature to look up his signup date, and forgot it was there. I diligently hosed up his diary figuring him to be a newbie, and didn't catch the mistake until this morning. Oops.
- Anyone who thinks that the selection of this particular video was brilliant needs to know that it was the first Crusader Rabbit video that popped out of a YouTube search (in fact it was the first Crusader Rabbit cartoon ever). I hadn't even seen most of it when I posted it. Any resemblance to actual persons living or dead is therefore entirely serendipitous. Or maybe it was prescient; Jay Ward was a funny guy.
Drink Good Coffee. You can sleep when you're dead.
Well, as hilarious as it is, I should probably unrecommend it considering that it's just edit snark and not diary snark. I'm sure we'll continue to have plenty of edit snark.
I could be wrong, but it sounds like a RedState security issue to me.
Members (you aren't a moderator here, correct?) taking it upon themselves to "diligently hose up" others' diaries, along with likely sockpuppet posts and letters? Wow. Yeah, I'm calling vigilante shenanigans on much of it and the fact that the RedState PTB couldn't prove the diary was hacked, and instead had to rely on the hacker to come forward, should give every member pause.
As far as your admission goes, if this were the Senate, I would expect a public and insincere apology be made by you on the tax-payers' dime, toute de suite!
But since it's not the Senate, maybe you should just employ your uber-mad hacking skillz again, remove the vintage cartoon and restore WillBill's text, which you deleted in such a knee-jerk and careless fashion. And if I may be so bold, perhaps you should consider cutting down on the coffee and getting more sleep, as well!
"Oops" indeed.

But would it really surprise you if that were the case in some of those instances? Just look at the poo the KozKidz fling around here.
Anyone can create an account, post comments and send letters. That is not to say there aren't some real whackos out there.
The internets is full of tricksters with nefarious agendas, on both sides of the political aisle.
Given the stunning ignorance you have displayed in this thread about the workings of this site, I'm going to "suggest" that you drop it and move on. Please know that we value your opinion about how we run it exactly as much as we paid for it. Well, maybe a little less.

Your point managed to break through my stunning ignorance, Leon.
Thank you for the suggestion. I'm on it, and off it!
First, Bob is a moderator, and has been one for only a little less than a year less than I have -- and my privileges date to September 2004.
Second, you presume that we have easy access to prior versions of the text, and that we have a tracking function allowing us to determine when and how the text was altered. We don't. I don't understand why we don't, but we don't.
So: Only the Directors and Contributors have access to the ability to alter diaries. However, I know this may surprise you, we all -- well, except Erick -- do this on a volunteer basis, and we all have lives outside of this. It's sometimes hard to track down what happened when, where, and why.
Sorry, friend.

is right now re-broadcasting the Fox debate. I just figured out who RP reminds me of.
DO you remember the "Church Lady" from Saturday Night Live? Every time he speaks I hear Dana Garvey saying, "SATAN!"
considering where the good doctor's head was, when practicing medicine, is it any wonder that the man has issues?
