I seems that a high level Iranian Military General, one who is involved with the Revolutionary Guards, has been missing since early last month. I picked up the news story over at ABC News "The Blotter".
It says he may have been kidnapped, or he may have defected while he was in Turkey. It also seems a whole host of individuals working at Iranian Embassies have been called home hastily in fear of them being exposed by this General who knows what they have been up too.
It can make for some interesting speculation. So, what is your take on this?
Update: An Excerpt from the story puts it this way...
One respected analyst with sources in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard says Gen. Ali Reza Asgari has defected and is now in a European country with his entire family, where he is cooperating with the U.S.
Other reports have suggested that the general may have been kidnapped by the Israeli secret service, the Mossad. A spokesperson at the CIA declined to comment on the reported defection.

considering that there has been a fair amount of activity in Afghanistan as was noted by Moe I believe recently. Has there been any connection established between Iran and the Taliban/AQ in that area?

I think it is an excellent start.

Turkey tends to deal with these things in a less 'multilateral' and 'consensus building' way than the West does. I figure the Iranians will have to completely redo this operation from the bottom up. There will also be several small Iranian Hamlets missing their idiots.

I would like to know how St. John would permit interrogation of this general (if he's been captured by the West), as well as of the Taliban leader caught in Pakistan last week. Would a few minutes of waterboarding be worth it to save innocent lives, including the lives of US servicmen?
The Army announced that they had captured an Iranian General 'out of uniform' in Iraq about a month ago. I don't think they were real clear on his current whereabouts.

First, he was kidnapped by Mossad, in which case we will never hear from him again. The same thing would probably happen if it was the CIA, but who are we kidding? The CIA couldn't pull that sort of thing off.
Second, he has defected and is cooperating with the U.S. intelligence services, in which case we may hear about it soon.
Third, he has been arrested by Iranian secret police, in which case we will never hear from him again.
A precedent embalms a principle.
