On Tuesday, April 15, Senator John McCain will be a guest on "Hardball" with (Obama Surrogate) Chris Matthews. The venue, Villanova University...my alma mater. So I'm going.
I've met Chris Matthews once before (he delivered the Commencement Address here last year)...the guy can't get enough of himself. Anyway, I might have a chance to ask McCain a question. Matthews' egotism will probably mean students and alumni ask questions at the very end when there's no time left, but I'm still tempted to try if given the chance.

One thing I always liked the Republican party is that we discipline our own swiftly and justly. Especially in the case of sex scandals, we don't screw around (pardon the pun). Case in point, Rep. Mark Foley was told to resign and he went without a fuss.
I have no ax to grind, but with Spitzer's resignation official, I'm tempted to revisit how the party responded to Senators Larry Craig and David Vitter. One allegedly looks for sex in public bathrooms (and pled guilty to a lesser charge) and the other allegedly visits prostitutes (and admitted being in contact with them).

There's no excuse for this bloody attack.
Even more disappointing here was Palestinian Authority President Abbas' weak reaction.
"Mr Abbas condemned the attack in a statement saying he condemns all attacks that target civilians, whether they are Palestinian or Israeli."
It would have been better if Abbas boldly and specifically condemned the Hamas attack on Jewish seminarians.

I was going to stay away from this issue over Obama’s middle name, but since Bill Cunningham just gave more ammo to the New York Times…
Sorry folks, but Cunningham was just plain wrong today and if any more McCain supporters act like this, it’s going to cost us the election.
Referring a middle name is one thing, but saying “Barack Hussein Obama” three times and then referring to a “great prophet from Chicago” is clearly implying something.

Alright, my math has never been good but here goes:
The delegate count (after tonight) according CNN:
McCain...........812
Romney...........286
Huckabee.........217
Ron Paul!!!......16
Total Allocated so far: 1331
Delegates Left to be won: 1049
1049 + 1331 = 2380 Total Delegates to the GOP Convention.
The magic number to secure the nomination is 1191 and John McCain needs merely 379 of the 1049 delegates left to be won or 36% of the share.

Hillary Clinton is in trouble if she loses tomorrow. I still think she will be the nominee. The Clintons will twist the arm of every (unpledged) super delegate to be nominated. As Dick Morris noted in “Rewriting History,” Mrs. Clinton does not let anything stop her when she is pursuing power.
Most of us agree that a McCain-Hillary match is preferable. Hillary Clinton is polarizing and begins with a third to as much as a half the country against her. Better odds for John McCain.

I'm defying Rudy Giuliani and disagree with most of the Rudy supporters here. I'm jumping back of the fence.
I realize there was an earlier blog titled, "its time to get off the fence," but given my choices, Romney or McCain, I'm not gung-ho for one or the other.
Rudy lost. We knew it would be a gamble, but I am surprised to see how fast he backed McCain. It could be that he is fulfilling his "Florida's winner will be the nominee" stance or that he cut a deal with McCain. I don't know, but its going to be harder to sell the Mac to me than Rudy.

Alright, with McCain reclaiming some momentum, I see a lot of grief here from the Hucksters and the FredHeads and understandably so.
However, as a Pennsylvanian who saw a lot of "staying home" in '06, I take exception to the folks who seem to be resolved to do nothing on Election Day, November 4th, if a moderate Republican (like McCain) became the nominee. This will mean risking a Democrat win in November.

Senator Arlen Specter told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he refuses to endorse any of the GOP candidates for president.
Who says anyone wanted his endorsement?
Among others, Specter called Rudy Giuliani (who shares most of Specter's socially liberal views) a dissapointment, predicted a Hillary victory over Sen. John McCain and claimed that he didn't know Huckabee enough to make a judgement. Obama didn't escape either, who Specter called a smart man, but said he was inexperienced.

Barack Obama just picked up an endorsement from John Kerry. Read it here. Did he really need this?
Even after New Hampshire, I thought he stood a great chance of beating HRC, and going on to the general election. While I have been cheering for Hillary's exit from the race, it is only because I hold a minority opinion here at RedState that Obama (not Hillary) is the one we want to face...a lightweight who could be defeated by the Mac, Mitt, Rudy or any other experienced GOP candidate.

In late December, PA Senator Arlen Specter returned from a trip to Syria, stating that Syria wanted to resume peace talks with Israel. The article is here.
The move was quickly denounced by critics (on the right) as old Snarlin' Arlen working another ploy for publicity and that Israel should never "surrender" the Golan Heights. Cute, but let's get serious.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about the PA House going Democrat, by one seat. Well that last race is being contested, a Democrat win by only 23 votes. A recount was due to happen of the whole state legislative district (3 townships and a borough). Not unreasonable, in PA, these districts are small.
Republican lawyers asked for a "meticulous hand recount," while Democrats wanted the "machine count." It went to court and the judge ordered "hand recounts" causing PA Dems cry foul and may appeal the decision.

This week, Chester County certified the last two races for state house, leaving the total 102-101 Democrat in the Pennsylvania State House.
Republicans still maintain a majority in the State Senate, but after 12 years of control, the House of Representatives in PA is more Rendell-friendly, expect him to exploit that.
In fact Rendell got everything he wanted. He got his intra-party rival (Casey) out of Harrisburg, booted a Republican Senator, and control of the state house, where legislation begins. Not to mention, Rendell himself was reelected.

On July 4th 2003, Philadelphia unveiled the National Constitution Center. No one will ever forget when they pulled the curtain to officially open the center, when a wood and steel frame holding a curtain came crashing down injuring several people on the stage, including Senator Specter.
I was hoping it would have knocked some sense into his head.
Today, I am ashamed to have Arlen Specter as my Senator. While he did make considerable contributions to Thomas, Alito and Roberts' passing the Senate hurdle, his recent comments that the Republicans need to move leftward makes me take back what little praise I had for him to begin with.

The New York Times: "In an extraordinary pre-emptive announcement, the National Republican Senatorial Committee has said it will concede Rhode Island to the Democrats should" Stephen Laffey (R) defeat Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) in the GOP primary. "Citing poll data, Republican leaders said they saw no way someone as conservative as Mr. Laffey could win in a state as Democratic as this; as it is, they are increasingly worried about Mr. Chafee’s hopes in a general election."
