Posted at 5:26pm on Jun. 1, 2008 The Farm Bill Fiasco....will wrong headed Republicans get a second chance?

By Mike Dugas

This Farm Bill vote is a great tool to show us who needs to be weeded out of those "R" seats. The outright extravagance of the pork in this bill is insulting to those of us out here having to tighten our belts and rework our budgets to get by right now. And now the subsidies peaks are going to be set by todays high prices and if those high prices go down the farmers can call the difference a loss and have a free hand to raid our federal wallets some more!

By Mike Dugas

When comprehensive immigration reform was an issue a large and loud grassroots effort stopped it in it's tracks. John McCain along with his friend Mr. Kennedy wrote a bill that the american people screamed loud that they didn't want. McCain's writing and support for this hurt him initially but he came out saying that he had heard us loud and clear and that securing the border was first and foremost and stated that very fact back in February, "I accept that, and have pledged that it would be among my highest priorities to secure our borders first, and only after we achieved widespread consensus that our borders are secure, would we address other aspects of the problem in a wa y that defends the rule of law and does not encourage another wave of illegal immigration."

By Mike Dugas

Over the last month I have read the many posts and diaries about our * cough * Republican nominee for President, Senator John McCain. You have your “anyone but Obama” supporters, and I am truly sympathetic to that stance. I have no desire for a Marxist President, Obama, with the Dems in apparent control of both Houses. I see a real possibility that if he wins he will drive this country into the ground economically and ruin our “real” advances militarily in the War on Terror. Those two possibilities scare the bejeezus out of me. An administration that was adversarial to business and the free market is what really caused the so-called Great Depression, especially when it comes to how long it lasted. So yes Obama is a real worry.

Posted at 9:17pm on Apr. 8, 2008 G.W. Bush at Medal of Honor recipient Michael Monsoor's ceremony

By Mike Dugas

With his mother and President Bush in attendance, Michael Monsoor recieves, posthumously, his much deserved Medal of Honor. I cannot begin to understand Mrs. Monsoor's grief at the loss of her son, my prayers are with her and all those who's family members have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.
President Bush was there. He spoke to the family and those in attendance but mostly, as is right, he allowed Michael Monsoor

By Mike Dugas

[Promoted from blogs, with light formatting changes. Please also note - to evoke protein wisdom's Darleen Click - that the United States' recent, and historical, work on African relief is yet another thing in which Michelle Obama takes no pride. Whether or not this is due to her inability to find a way to let her husband take the credit must be decided by each individual reader. - Moe Lane]

As disappointed as I have been with President Bush I have to give him credit on some of his African Policy. The work he has done there to help bring about an end to malaria and his efforts to slow down the epidemic that is AIDS on that continent has given him an admirable 80% approval rating. His arrival in Tanzania brought out cheering crowds who waited all along his routes as he went from meeting to meeting. Maasai women dancers in their purple robes danced around him and he even joined their line for a bit but held off on actually hoofing to the beat.

This HAS to be stopped. This bill encompasses EVERYTHING
we are against. Kyoto, Land and Sea, the Convention on Biological Diversity. It includes a HUGE tax on the US to be paid to the UN ( I am literally sick over that thought). The UN will get to decide where our foreign aid gets spent. It's handing over our sovereignty to people who HATE us.

Posted at 5:07pm on Feb. 11, 2008 To my fellow citizens......Welcome "The Merida Initiative" (unbelievable)

By Mike Dugas

For how long have we been screaming to get our borders secured? Story after story of federales and narco-gangs coming into my old hometown of El Paso, killings and kidnappings. And
they keep feeding us that pipe dream that they hear us and understand we want our borders secured. They can feel our pain.
Well that same US Federal Government is [#@$%@#$%] in our Wheaties again and have the CAJONES to put together a financial aid package to Mexico so they can secure their southern borders from in influx of central and south americans. I can't believe it! With our money Mexico will probably have their border problem secured LONG before we do. How you like footin that bill with your hard earned tax dollars huh! NICE!!!!

Posted at 10:03pm on Feb. 6, 2008 Voting for McCain...yes...no...yes....no....yes. You too huh.

By Mike Dugas

For awhile now I've been debating not voting. I find the idea abhorant but I have the same feeling for McCain. Then I got it in my head that I was going to vote for him out of loyalty to my party. I mean how bad could he be right? Then I remembered
that I think twice he considered switching to the Democrats, or used it as a threat anyway. Then, with what I thought was my final decision on the matter, I chose to vote for him over judges. Judges are very important to me and after all he has said over and over that he would vote for constructionist judges like Roberts and Alito. But then again would he? Would he select judges who would toss out McCain/Fiengold in an instant?
