Posted at 10:19pm on Jan. 26, 2008 I'm a casualty of war

By MrsNachos

No, not the real, living hero type.

I'm a casualty of the war in politics right now. It's overwhelming, it makes me childish and crabby and I think I'm done with it. Where is the bunny with the ball?

I'm voting my man on February 5th, but you won't even believe how exhausted of talking about all of this I am. I get more than the normal in my home, for obvious reason, which is fine. He's always interesting and nice about it. I hear about it from most every teacher I have. I hear about politics online. I hear about it on the phone. I see it in the online news I read. And I'm just...saturated. Overflowing and unable to take one more headline, one more nasty word (someone else's or, inevitably, my own), one more picture of a candidate with bad hair, one more anything.

Posted at 3:19pm on Jan. 23, 2008 Bush cancels anti-prescription drug abuse event in wake of Ledger's death

By MrsNachos

As noted by the Associated Press, President Bush has canceled an event scheduled for this evening that was to promote an ad campaign against prescription drug abuse.

Two Hollywood deaths within 10 days has certainly even made it's way to Bush advisors. The gist of the story is that drug use is declining among teen users, but prescription drug use is making its way up. Young Hollywood promoted the image by carelessly flaunting their illegal drugs and using their legal drugs to fall back upon in case of a drug test (I'm talking to you and Adderall, Britney Spears).

Posted at 5:58pm on Jan. 22, 2008 Private sharing time or Why I am pro-life

By MrsNachos

Note: This was originally posted as a comment in another amazing blog. I moved it here because it's my story and it felt weird to use it as a comment.

I'm reluctant to post this, but I feel like I need to because of how strongly I feel about this.

My mother was a senior in high school when she got pregnant by a man 3 years older than her. Upon finding out that she was pregnant, he immediately left her/wouldn't return calls/etc. She was a middle child among 11 from a strongly Catholic family. Abortion was a sin, but so was getting pregnant without being married. To this day, I have no idea how my grandparents felt about the issue. It would have ben a hard thing for them to have a child who was an unwed mother. Abortion was legal in 1979 and I'm sure the thought crossed some minds.

By MrsNachos

Grief, I'm tired. I'm a mother and sometimes that can be exhausting. With that being said, sometimes I feel like the weight of the primaries is smack dab on me. No, I'm not narcissistic enough to believe that my one vote would sway the whole primary, but when I'm watching the debates or reading what the candidates have said, I have to admit that I get irritated and tired of having to referee them in my mind.

Posted at 10:01pm on Jan. 12, 2008 The reluctant blogger OR Why I support John McCain

By MrsNachos

I'm tired. I'm crabby. I enjoyed not blogging.

However, sometimes you have to suck it up and deal. So, here I am.

Disclaimer: Some of you know my spouse. I need to preface this entry by saying that we don't agree on everything. I know, it's a huge shock that spouses disagree on things. Fundamentally, we have the same goals for our life together and the life we envision for our son. We have 2 very different ways of thinking when it comes to politics. He's a serious, thoughtful, talented blogger. I'm a quirky, short-tempered, opinionated, emotional commenter. Comments are so much easier to use to express my thoughts without it spreading over to him. As such, when discussing my beliefs, please don't bring up his. My blog. Mine. Not his. He doesn't agree and he gets to hear "Vote McCain" a whole lot more than RedState does.

Posted at 3:31pm on Aug. 11, 2007 Part four. The saga continues.

By MrsNachos

Lou Engle has wound this crowd up. One of my favorite things he said was “vote for the man with a heart.” I love that. Bobby Schindler (Terry Schiavo’s brother) got a standing ovation. He reminded us about how little representation the disabled have. Sam Brownback has been instrumental in helping with rights for disabled people. Luana Stoltenberg brought tears to my eyes as she described her abortion. It’s heartbreaking. It reminds me of how we are being tested right now. Will we allow this to continue? We are as close as we have ever been to having a Supreme Court that will remove Roe V. Wade. Will we fail?

By MrsNachos

So it’s 11:13 and we’re listening to music. Sam was on stage around 11am and it’s easy to see why people like him. He’s genuine and speaks to everyone. There isn’t an ounce of elitism there and he puts people at ease. For me, I feel like that is a necessary element for a Presidential candidate: the ability to put those around you in a calm state of mind. It’s especially important now, when our country is in such a precarious position with the rest of the world. Someone who is arrogant, say like Mitt Romney or Rudy Guiliani, just isn’t going to cut it. That attitude isn’t really representative of our country, is it?

DAY TWO PART ONE

It was late when we got in last night and I was unable to post. When we arrived to the campus of Iowa State University, I was pleased to see that it is a lovely place to hang out. If you don’t mind living in Iowa, you may want to check out Iowa State as a potential school. The area is small town, but otherwise it’s very nice.

Everyone was setting up tents when we arrived. It looks like a carnival. There are many rides, including a ferris wheel. I think our campaign may be the only one that has a climbing wall. The Fox News truck is here and today the grounds are buzzing. I’m getting ahead of myself, though.

DAY ONE PART ONE

Reporting from Ames, Iowa is Chanel 5 reporter Trisha Tackenauwa. Actually, I just lied. This is Mrs. Nachos and Leon and I have just arrived in the center of what appears to be Ames, Iowa. We’re on the campaign trail for your and my favorite Republican nominee, Senator Sam Brownback. So far, the event has been, well, uneventful. However, as it is my duty to inform you of what you would be experiencing if you were with me, my day has gone as follows.

Posted at 2:30am on Jul. 5, 2007 Dear MySpacers,

By MrsNachos

For those of you that have picked your man, a website (www.cleanupmyspace.com) is offering myspace layouts for candidates. Currently they offer Brownback (courtesy of my request), Romney, Thompson, Ron Paul (why do I always have to say his whole name?), Giuliani & McCain.

For you lefties they have Hillary (Please for the love of all that is good avoid this one), Edwards, O'Bama and maybe the left's most feasible candidate, Homer Simpson.
