Posted at 4:14am on May 17, 2008 The word "Jihadist"
By Oscar98
I've noted before that I'm not a fan of calling terrorists "Jihadists." This article from the AP is about 3 weeks old, but indicates that the Bush Admin (finally) agrees with many info ops practitioners such as the US Army Special Forces.
Don't call them jihadists any more.

Posted at 7:07pm on Feb. 17, 2008 "Small-l" libertarians... have you checked out the RLC??
By Oscar98
This is obviously not for every fiscal conservative out here, but if you're definitely a fiscal conservative, Club for Growth kinda Republican, you might lean libertarian, too...
Just a little outreach video here to see if anyone is interested in the RLC. Granted, the readers of this website are relatively savvy political folks. So you may not be hearing anything new.
The video is Phil Blumel, secretary for the Republican Liberty Caucus(RLC) of Florida, introducing a group of the new Ron Paul supporters to the RLCFL, its purpose and mission in the Republican Party. Like Ron Paul or not... the Republicans need libertarians now more than ever, in my opinion.

This may have been on here before, but U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), a former national chair of the Republican Liberty Caucus, has opened an exploratory committee and is considering a run for the Republican nomination for president of the United States.

Posted at 9:31pm on Dec. 5, 2006 Tonight on History Channel... Little Ice Age
By Oscar98
Little Ice Age, Big Chill. I recommend this show tonight. It is on right now, amd will be back on at Midnight EST.
Okay, so the last 15-20 minutes of this 2-hour show are Global Warming hysteria. However, when you're listening to one of the doomsday Global Warming gurus on the radio or TV and they are proclaiming that last year was the hottest year on record, 400 years, a millennium, yada yada yada... out to 10000 years even?

Posted at 10:40pm on Nov. 16, 2006 Post-Election Fair Tax Scorecard...
By Oscar98
From the Fairtax.org website:
In the entirely normal historical sea change that changed the majority party in Congress, the public has signaled a desire to change national direction. Some FairTax supporters lost -- primarily on other issues -- and some won. One national Republican strategist opined that the Republican party lost because it did not embrace the FairTax. Other pundits have written that the Democratic majority will not grow if the new leadership does not reach out to the center with issues that can unite the country. We believe the FairTax is that issue. The simple truth is: the FairTax is good for all. It is also true that we cannot repeal the 16th amendment or win the FairTax without the support of both Democrats and Republicans. Now is the time to take our message to the new Democratic majority while still embracing those Republican leaders who have brought us this far. Here are election results that, while disappointing to some, should tell us that the FairTax has a newly important and relevant political meaning: the potential to unite the nation for the good of all.

Posted at 12:08pm on Nov. 10, 2006 Ronald Reagan on Libertarianism
By Oscar98
For those who just want to cast aside the libertarian wing of the party...
I posted this 1975 quote of Ronald Reagan from Reason Magazine on another blog. But, it is worth repeating.
"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.

Posted at 2:49am on Nov. 1, 2006 Just Win, Baby! Steele, Allen...
By Oscar98
From the Club For Growth...
Chances for the biggest upset of the year rose yesterday in Maryland where GOP Senate candidate Michael Steele gained the endorsements of six prominent black Democratic Party leaders in the state's most vote-rich Democratic county.
Before the endorsement Steele was an average of just 5 points behind in the last three public polls. He now may have the credentials he needs to make big gains among black voters who comprise about one-quarter of the electorate statewide. This is a huge coup for Steele. If he wins, he would become one of just two black Senators.

Read columnist Scott Burns article in support of the FairTax below, and then send your vote by e-mail to scott@scottburns.com. Put “Go for the FairTax” in the subject line. Scott will be tallying the responses, so add your voice to the national chorus in support of the FairTax! He promises to report results of his national straw poll later.

Posted at 1:03am on Jul. 15, 2006 Crush Hizballah
By Oscar98
Israel may have to damage some Syrian Air Bases to protect their flank. But, I don't believe Iran can really come to their defense right away, nor will they. And the Arab states won't support Syria (outside of a little talk), as they consider Syria an Arab traitor siding with the Shiite states of Iraq and Lebanon.
Crush Hizballah, and Prime Min Fuad Saniora's Beirut government can finally marginalize the Islamist group. Crush Hizballah, and Israel shows the Middle East that they still have big balls of steel (and weapons to back you up). Crush Hizballah, and Israel can know their northern border is protected, and if their soldiers are not returned, they are avenged. Crush Hizballah, and Israel can focus on the Hamas threat again and get back to business with Palestinian Pres Abbas. Most importantly, Crush Hizballah, and Iran's influence in the Levant is severely degraded. Crush Hizballah...
I believe that is what Olmert is thinking, and he may be right.
