By FirstState

With Secretary Jackson's resignation today, the nation needs a proven "doer" in the role of HUD secretary, someone who understands markets and the economy, and can manage a large organization.

Why not Mitt Romney, the quintessential "Get Er Done" Republican? He can get in, turn the situation around, and be done in January.

HUCK TODAY (all emphasis mine): “You’re not going to hear me making up stuff about my biography,” Huckabee told a dozen or so supporters gathered in the lobby of the Boyt Harness Company. “When folks don’t tell you what’s straight up coming in, they probably won’t tell you straight up when they get in.”(link)

Posted at 3:06pm on Dec. 18, 2007 Huckabee Losing Gilchrist Endorsement?

By FirstState

According to WorldNetDaily:

Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist says he will have to reconsider his endorsement of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee after learning the Republican presidential candidate favors allowing illegal aliens to wait only days to receive documents allowing re-entry into the U.S.

In a Dec. 9 Fox News interview, just two days before Gilchrist's endorsement, Huckabee was questioned by host Chris Wallace about an apparent contradiction between statements last year that he preferred a pathway to citizenship and his current plan. On his campaign website, Huckabee outlines a proposal that would require illegal aliens to repatriate and get on the back of the line, which could mean years for re-entry into the United States.

By FirstState

According to Politico, Judge Robert Bork has endorsed Mitt Romney.

"Throughout my career," the legal scholar says in a statement to be released today, "I have had the honor of serving under several Presidents and am proud to make today's endorsement. No other candidate will do more to advance the conservative judicial movement than Governor Mitt Romney. … I greatly admired his leadership in Massachusetts in the way that he responded to the activist court's ruling legalizing same-sex 'marriage.' His leadership on the issue has served as a model to the nation on how to respect all of our citizens while respecting the rule of law at the same time."

From the Boston Globe:

"AMES, Iowa -- An Iowa Christian group is circulating flyers at today's straw poll urging people not to vote for Mitt Romney, the strong favorite in today's straw poll, because he is a Mormon.

"we strongly believe that Jesus Christ, if he were alive in the flesh in this time and voted, would NEVER vote for Mitt Romney under any circumstances," the flyer says. "Mitt Romney represents Mormonism which is counterfeit Christianity, a cult."

By FirstState

Today, the Senate voted on an amendment to eliminate sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants.

The amendment failed by one vote.

Sam Brownback did not vote.

Does anyone know why?

(Before anyone jumps down his throat or mine, I'm sure there's a reason.)
