Why I Am Endorsing Sen. John McCain
Since the fall of 2006, I have served on Sen. Sam Brownback’s national steering committee for his presidential campaign. Sam is a good man and I was saddened by the news of his departure from the race. His consistent voice honoring life and highlighting the need to restore the family will be missed from the presidential dialogue. He reflects what’s important to me and many conservatives.

Posted at 10:36am on Oct. 13, 2007 Romney Should Have Used Line-Item Veto on Taxpayer Funded Abortions in his Health Care Plan
By Jerry Zandstra
There is a great deal of discussion this week regarding various health care plans because of Senator McCain’s highly touted plan that he released yesterday, focused on controlling costs rather than government take-over plans. The Wall Street Journal praised the McCain plan in this editorial:

For social conservatives, there is one primary question: Will the plans of the various candidates include taxpayer-funded abortions? In other words, will our tax dollars be used to end the life of an infant in its mother’s womb?

Posted at 1:10pm on Mar. 27, 2007 Mitt's Puffing
By Jerry Zandstra
Mitt Romney’s support has dropped in half in the most recent USA Today Gallup Poll released this morning. Two weeks ago he was at 8%. Now he is at just 3% - the same as Sam Brownback (3%) and far behind Rudy Giuliani (31%), John McCain (22%), Fred Thompson (12%), and New Gingrich (8%).
Why the sudden drop over the past few weeks?
The combination of puffing on Gov. Romney’s part and dwindling support among Republican leaders who are learning of his social liberalism may have a serious effect on both the integrity of the Romney campaign and its potential for success. Fights with conservatives over the fact that Romney forced judges to recognize gay marriage in Massachusetts is not helping.

By Jerry Zandstra
One of Mitt Romney’s claims to policy success as the governor of Massachusetts is “Commonwealth Care.” The legislation (HD 4673) was introduced by Romney late in 2004 and was signed into in law 2006, less than one year ago. In an editorial in the The Boston Globe, the governor laid out his plan and called the legislature of Massachusetts to join him in supporting it (www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/11/21/my_plan_for_massachusetts...).

By Jerry Zandstra
The New Year’s holiday was busy for Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. Sam Brownback. Both spent the weekend contemplating their own candidacy for the US President. In the midst of their deliberations, each took the time to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge of Americans for Tax Reform in which signers promise to "oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses ... and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates."

Posted at 1:28pm on Dec. 19, 2006 Romney: Out of the Overflow of the Mouth
By Jerry Zandstra
"In 1994, while running for Senate, Romney had sent a letter to the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans group, stating that he would be a stronger advocate for gay rights than Sen. Kennedy. Conservative leaders viewed his earlier statements as troubling and called for an 'abject rejection' of his earlier stance. ...The combination of this and his abortion flip-flop could strangle his candidacy in its crib."

Three cheers for Sen. Brownback!
Below is a letter I sent to his office earlier this week about the nomination of Judge Neff to US District Court, Western Division, Michigan. Judge Neff participated in a lesbian commitment ceremony in 2002. AP has picked up the story. Please visit the link below for the coverage.

Posted at 4:36pm on Sep. 26, 2006 Grading Presidential Hopefuls on Abortion
By Jerry Zandstra
I have posted a new grading scale for possible presidential candidates for 2008. You can view it at:
http://www.prolifefederation.org/custom1.asp
I have also collected dozens of articles on Brownback, Huckabee, McCain, Romney, and Guiliani and their views on abortion. You can read what's been said by them and written about them in their home states on the topic of abortion.
Disagree with the grade your favorite candidates received? Read the articles, find out if you want to stay with your choice, and let me know what you think.
