Posted at 2:47am on Jul. 11, 2008 Dark Horse Conservative VP Candidates

By edm

Let's be perfectly frank with ourselves, here - the list of John McCain's VP candidates that is being tossed around in the media is filled with people who either are not popular with large elements of the conservative base, or just aren't conservatives, period; have little or no experience in government; have little national exposure; or would likely prove to be more of a political liability than a benefit to the Senator, once they got on the trail.

Posted at 10:06pm on Jan. 15, 2008 The Big Questions now...

By edm

Now that Romney's won Michigan, the next big battle is South Carolina. Does McCain fade there, based on his performance in Michigan? Where would his voters go? Does he stay in, and try to pick off a few of the big states on Feb 5?

Can Fred pick up a win in SC? Can Rudy win Florida? Where does this leave the field?

Discuss.

Posted at 9:13pm on Jan. 9, 2008 FredHeads, it's "All Hands on Deck!" time.

By edm

The chief needs $540k by Friday for ad money in SC. He has $386k now. That's $154K that's needed, roughly $5,500 an hour.

Let's make it happen. Tell your friends. Show them Fred's positions (http://www.fred08.com/Principles/PrinciplesSummary.aspx) on the issues. Let's start a fire in South Carolina, and watch it spread across the nation.

If you want Conservatism to prevail when we need it, it's time to help put Fred in the office. Please donate what you can, and spread the word. He isn't a Democrat in Sheep's clothing. He hasn't betrayed us. He hasn't radically changed his positions on the central matters of our philosophy just to win. He's the same now as he's ever been, and he's One of Us.

By edm

Say the early primaries get broken up amongst the candidates.

Huckabee's won Iowa, certainly. However, Iowa's Iowa. It's rather idiosyncratic, and not representative at all of America at large, as Jim Gergahty over at NRO so noted.

Let's say John McCain wins New Hampshire.

Let's say Romney gets a "favorite son" effect in Michigan.

Let's also say (in my case, hope), that South Carolina does the right thing, and votes for Fred.

Posted at 7:19pm on Dec. 19, 2007 ENPR: Fred Thompson the "X-Factor" in Iowa.

By edm

This week's Evans-Novak Political Report (http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=24060) has good things to say about Sen. Thompson, saying that if he maintains an upbeat, strong performance on the stump, he could very well come in a strong second.

Tim Carney's Special Iowa Report says the following:

The "X factor" in this race is former Sen. Fred Thompson (Tenn.). Most Iowa Republicans did not even mention his name in discussing candidates they supported or opposed. He simply does not register in the minds of potential GOP caucus-goers, but when asked about him, voters have little negative to say.

Posted at 12:48am on Dec. 14, 2007 A radical theory on the Clinton collapse

By edm

The past few weeks have seen a dramatic shift in the state of the race for the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination. Where once Senator Hillary Clinton held commanding leads over her chief rival, Senator Barack Obama in national, Iowan, and New Hampshire polls, she now is running neck-and-neck with him, or narrowly trails him.

This phenomenon may just be the natural tightening that always occurs towards the beginninf of primary season. It may be due to Oprah Winfrey's endorsement of the Illinois Senator. It may even be due to an awakening within the Democratic ranks to the fact that Sen. Clinton has enormous negative ratings which could devastate downticket races.

With RedState's newfound focus in taking on Ron Paul's internet legion, I thought that this would be appropriate. In just about two hours, Fred Thompson supporters are going to attempt to top what the Ronulans did on Guy Fawkes Day - a money bomb.

Throughout the 21st, supporters will give as much as they can using the following link -

Posted at 3:24pm on Nov. 13, 2007 VA AG (and the likely next GOP Gubernatorial candidate) Bob McDonnell endorses Fred Thompson for PotUS

By edm

Right now, there's no clear message coming out of the GOP leadership here in the state as to who's the man for VA. McDonnel and Allen are for Fred, former AG and Gubernatorial candidate Jerry Kilgore is for Rudy, our Speaker of the House of Delegates is for Huckabee, and our Lt. Gov., Bill Bolling, is for Romney.

Here's the text of AG McDonnell's e-mail statement. He and former Senator George Allen will lead up Fred's efforts in the Old Dominion -

Posted at 3:04pm on Oct. 8, 2007 George Allen endorses Fred Thompson, joins national campaign team

By edm

First, from The Atlantic (http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2007/10/georgeallenendorses.php)

And, also, RCP -

Right now, the Virginian GOP is split in who's endorsing who. Mason Conservative reports (http://masonconservative.typepad.com/themasonconservative/2007/10/mcdonnell-and-f.html) that our LG, Bill Bolling (who will likely be running for Governor in 2009) is supporting Mitt Romney. Bill Howell, the speaker of our lower state legislature house, is going for Huckabee. Former Attorney General (and candidate for Governor in 2005) Jerry Kilgore, is going for Rudy. Senator John Warner supports John McCain. And, there's another rumor brewing that our current AG, Bob McDonnell (another guy who will likely run for Governor in 09) is supporting Fred Thompson.

Posted at 4:44pm on Oct. 6, 2007 Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis (R-VA-1) died this morning

By edm

ImageJust got notificiation from one of our State Senators, Ken Cucinelli, that Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis died, this morning. She had fought breast cancer for the past few years; and, today, it finally caught up with her.

Also, a news blurb can be found here.

I met with her five years ago, just after the September 11th terrorist attacks, and I can tell you that she was a woman of unmatched dignity and steely determination. Definitely one of the good guys. She was a true believer in Christ and the cause, and just the finest human being that you could imagine.

Take care, Congresswoman. Requiescat in Pace.
