By chemjeff2

So I was reading the back of a chemistry trade magazine, Chemical and Engineering News, June 23 issue. (I'm a little behind.) The last page is usually the humor section, but this particular entry wasn't particularly funny to me. Here is yet another example of what we can expect from socialized health care in this country, when our freedoms and liberties are taken away from us in the name of health:

Posted at 3:12pm on May 18, 2008 Update from NE Oregon

By chemjeff2

So, Bill Clinton came and spoke at Baker City, Oregon not long ago. Baker City is a small town that is literally an hour away from anywhere; but it is the largest town in the area. Of course one of the professors here at EOU remarked that it was a "sure sign of desperation" that Clinton felt the need to come campaign in the middle of nowhere.* Obama is speaking today at Pendleton, another small town (a little larger than Baker City). No one is saying anything about desperation. Around here, I see only Obama signs everywhere. I haven't seen a single Hillary sign. The GOTV drive on campus is the largest I have ever seen. There are signs and placards everywhere urging students to vote. Of course the signs are nonpartisan, but I can't help but think that if the primary race were between two exciting Republican candidates we wouldn't see nearly the enthusiasm for voting.

Posted at 5:36pm on Mar. 25, 2008 Why liberals cannot be trusted to lead a serious national conversation on race.

By chemjeff2

Check out this piece on race relations in this country. Then, when you are done, you should realize that Dr. Johnson is not a nutcase. He is not some radical fringe guy, at least in the academic world. He is a respected sociologist. And I think it's fair to say that his views on race represent an important branch of mainstream liberal academic thought on the matter. It should come as no surprise that his views on race are rather collectivist in nature. He believes it's the entire capitalist enterprise that we unwittingly participate in, despite our best nonracist intentions, that lead to racist outcomes. This is, quite literally, Marxist. Here's the money quote:

Posted at 2:37pm on Mar. 24, 2008 We should all be rooting for Hillary.

By chemjeff2

I work at a university, and as you may have noticed, universities tend to be hotbeds of liberalism. I am here to report that among this class of liberals (middle-upper class pretentious snobby progressive do-gooders), I have heard quite a few comments along the lines of:

"If Hillary gets the nomination, I will not vote/vote 3rd party/vote for McCain (yes really!). But if Obama gets the nomination then I am of course voting for HIM."

Posted at 1:47pm on Jan. 9, 2008 More info about Nataline

By chemjeff2

So here is a recent WSJ article about Nataline Sarkisyan, the 17-year-old girl mentioned by John Edwards who died while waiting for a liver transplant. Initially her insurance company, Cigna, refused to pay for the transplant but then reversed their decision on the day she died. Of course our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sarkisyan family for their terrible and tragic loss. But if her story is going to be used by politicians to advocate public policy for all of us, then it's important that we know more details about Nataline's story.

Posted at 10:50am on Oct. 20, 2006 The Peaceniks Are At It Again

By chemjeff2

The conventional wisdom about political affiliation among professors is true: They are mostly a bunch of liberal nutjobs. I should know, I'm a conservative nutjob professor and I know nutjob when I see it. Just yesterday, at the end of a faculty meeting, a professor of sociology (can you guess which political party she belongs to?) announced that there would be a "Peace Vigil" tonight to conclude their so-called "Month of Peace Activities." At this "peace" vigil, she announced that individuals would read the names of the US soldiers who have died in Iraq, alternating with names of Iraqis who have died. Of course this is all to conclude with a nice little candelight ceremony. Here are some questions for you, professor:

By chemjeff2

So yesterday I read this story about highschool dropouts in Western nations, and I've been contemplating it. Apparently, the US has a growing highschool dropout problem. This study is very big, but it does offer one piece of encouraging news for us conservatives:

Don't spam the Prez, or he'll sic Karl Rove on ya! I smell a conspiracy. Yet another example of how the President is trampling our civil rights. (Here's the story.)

Is this hilarious or what?

Posted at 2:31pm on Sep. 12, 2006 Kos Knowingly Supports Corrupt Dem

By chemjeff2

I could barely believe it. Of course the Kos Kiddies are partisan Democrats who advocate the defeat of Republicans, but would they really line up to support a Democrat whom even THEY believe is corrupt? Apparently so. Check out the following item on the Midday Open Thread on dailykos:

"IL-Gov: In a normal year, Blagojevich (D) might've been in trouble. His first term could've been, er, cleaner (he's corrupt). But this isn't a normal year, and Blago has done a good job of painting his opponent, Judy Bar Topinka, as a Bush acolyte who would be equally corrupt. The latest Tribune/WGN poll gives Blago a 45-33 lead."

Posted at 1:48pm on Sep. 12, 2006 Question #1 for BDS Liberals

By chemjeff2

As the Power Line boys point out, if Bush & Co. are such miserable failures, why have there been successful terrorist attacks in at least 20 other countries since 9/11, but none here?

(P.S. BDS = Bush Derangement Syndrome)
