By ironchapman
I'm loving this one. I knew it would happen sooner or later.
NEW YORK — CNN apologized Tuesday for mistakenly promoting a story on the search for al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden with the headline “Where's Obama?”
A spokesman for Illinois Senator Barack Obama said the apology was accepted.

Posted at 12:36am on Dec. 25, 2006 Hark the Herald: Merry Christmas to my Fellow RedStaters
By ironchapman

I took this picture last year of the Atlantic Station in Atlanta's Christmas tree.
Here's one of my favorite Christmas carols:
Hark the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
In my opinion, no line or lyric better sums up the meaning of Christ's birth, or the whole Christian religion, better than the line from this song "God and sinners reconciled."
Merry Christmas and God bless, fellow RedStaters.

Posted at 10:43pm on Dec. 23, 2006 On Restrictions of Rights in Times of Crisis: What Would Jefferson Do?
By ironchapman
I read a quote from this letter in a book awhile back. I later researched the quote and found the letter a very interesting reply to those people who often give us that tired Ben Franklin quote: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
In this letter, Jefferson writes to John Colvin that, in times of crisis, sometimes certain rights must either limited or restricted.
I'm posting a couple of the best sections, but I'd recommend you read the entire letter.

Posted at 1:04am on Dec. 23, 2006 Al-Qaeda Linked Group Offers Truce and My Response to It
By ironchapman
Earlier today, I read an article from MSNBC that said an Al-Qaeda linked group was offering a one month truce to allow the US to withdraw its troops from Iraq safely.
A short clipping:
CAIRO, Egypt - The purported leader of al-Qaida-linked insurgents in Iraq offered a one-month truce for U.S. troops to withdraw from the country without being attacked, according to a speech posted on an Islamic Web site Friday.
~~Snip~~
Addressing the United States, al-Baghdadi said: “We are announcing today our orders for you, so obey them before you regret it.
“We order you to withdraw your troops immediately, using troop carriers and aircraft, and taking only your personal weapons. Don’t withdraw any heavy weapons. Instead you should hand over those and your military bases to the holy warriors of the Islamic State,” he said.
He said the withdrawal period should not exceed one month, and during that time “we will allow your withdrawal to proceed without being attacked by explosives or any other form.”
Washington had two weeks to respond to the truce offer, he said.
Liberals, of course, will love this. "Let's take advantage of this opportunity while we can!" they say.
Stupid Liberals.

Posted at 7:14pm on Dec. 14, 2006 Quote for the Day: Calvin Coolidge on the Declaration of Independence
By ironchapman
Interesting quote for those who believe in a "living document" and other "progressive" notions.
"No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward a time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction cannot lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more "modern," but more ancient than those of our Revolutionary ancestors."
--Calvin Coolidge's, our 30th President (1923-1929), "The Inspiration of the Declaration" Speech
