The Supreme Court issued its decision in Planned Parenthood v. Gonzales (and Carhart v. Gonzales) on April 18, 2007, upholding the constitutionality of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban and holding that a "health" exception to the statute was not constitutionally required (the law contains a life exception). Abortion advocates argued to the Court that the lack of a health exception in the law would threaten women's health. In the wake of the decision, Planned Parenthood warned that it was "bad news for women's health and safety." A multitude of voices, both among the full-time abortion advocates and those advocates employed as newspaper editorialists warned of the imminent harm women faced as a result of the decision.

Posted at 1:28pm on Nov. 10, 2006 Why Wouldn't We Strip Chafee of His Foreign Relations Committee Seat?

By RedWahoo

Just an open question. Per CNN Chafee is joining with Dems to oppose Bolton's nomination -- thereby preventing him from getting out of committee and to the Senate floor. Can someone remind me again why the Senate leadership - Republican until January - could not inform Mr. Chafee, who has indicated that he may not even be a Republican for much longer, that his seat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will now be occupied by ______ (fill in the name of actual Republican Senator), get the nomination out of committee to the Senate floor and confirm Bolton before January?

Posted at 2:55am on Nov. 8, 2006 It's NOT a Democratic Majority. It's a Democratic-Socialist Coalition

By RedWahoo

Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He's a card-carrying Socialist. If the Dems are going to build their bare majority on his caucasing with them, Republicans need to take every possible opportunity to remind the nation of this point. The Senate will be (assuming VA, MT, MO all fall) Democratic-Socialist. Let's not let the media sweep that little fact under the rug.
