(This is my first diary at RedState (please go easy on me :) ). I have been a lurker for a long time, and so far have limited myself to commenting on other peoples diaries. To get it out of the way my political leanings are mostly economically conservative, and socially liberal for anyone that must know, and this diary is my opinion on services that are provided by the government, and does advocate for more government intervention in some areas. So you have been warned )
It has been popular for many years now for republicans to use the line "Government can do no good" and many variations of this statement when it comes to government provided services. History proves this statement mostly correct, but when you elect someone that believes that government cannot perform, you are doing your part to make this a self fulfilling prophecy. There are many examples of government doing bad, not so bad, and even great things throughout history, things that might go beyond the Libertarian philosophies of government, but still great achievements that not only made us a greater nation, but provided us as citizens greater prosperity. One such example is the Interstate system. Without the Interstate system we would not be the nation we are today, same for our electric, gas, water, and phone infrastructure. Think about it for a minute, if any of these infrastructures did not exist would our life as Americans be better or worse? What about our nations GDP do you think it would be higher or lower? Would companies be able to make the same level of profits without our Interstate system?
