Posted at 11:11am on Dec. 28, 2007 Reality Check: Bhutto

By Falcon

While it is unfortunate that Benazir Bhutto was assassinated, the individuals who are falling all over themselves to lionize her seem to be in serious need of a reality check. Bhutto has been repeatedly and credibly charged with massive amounts of corruption involving hundreds of millions of dollars across several nations. She was a supporter of the Taliban for some time and despite her rhetoric regarding women's rights her government never delivered anything of substance on that issue.

Posted at 11:43am on Dec. 24, 2007 There Are Unconstitutional Treaties

By Falcon

The power to make treaties is an oft misunderstood, but extremely important power that the national government has the ability to use. It is misunderstood mostly because the Constitution is intentionally vague regarding the scope of this power and traditionally the President, along with a complacent, even rubber stamping Senate, has abused this power in such a way that it seems to be one of no limitation. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court, which normally prowls the acts of the other two branches seeking out those things which is may nullify or alter, has in the case of treaties been remarkably deferential. This is in part because treaties are typically conceptualized as those agreements between governments which regulate the behavior of our sovereign nation with that of other sovereign nations. As an agreement between organs of authority dealing with foreigners there is little desire or perceived need for the Court to busy itself in scrutinizing such accords, nor are there typically individuals with standing capable of challenging acts that only affect the external conduct of government. However, this mode of thinking about treaties needs to change because the implications behind treaties has changed such that they now pose a direct threat to the liberties of the American people and the internal regulation of our affairs.

Posted at 1:24am on Dec. 8, 2007 Analysis: Eliminate the IRS

By Falcon

Isn't it about time that we eliminated the IRS? More specifically, isn't it time that we eliminated the personal income tax and all direct taxes on the American people? What most politicians seem unable to grasp is that the problem is not the method by which taxes are collected, but the fact that they are collected at all. Eliminating the personal income tax would accomplish two main things. It would increase economic prosperity for all Americans and it would help promote fiscal restraint in Washington.

Posted at 11:52pm on Nov. 29, 2007 Analysis: Huckabee in the CNN/YouTube Debate

By Falcon

Mr. Huckabee's first question dealt with a policy he supported during his administration in Arkansas that would have allowed children of illegal aliens to gain access to state scholarship programs. He pointed out that this policy was "meritorious" and only for those children who were long term participants of the school system. Mr. Huckabee then proceded to characterize the opposition to the policy as amounting to little more than punishing children for the crimes of their parents. He also noted that the bill would have stressed illegal aliens working for legal status.

Posted at 10:29pm on Jun. 5, 2007 Ron Paul Shone Through the Masses Again

By Falcon

Ron Paul was the only man on the stage with a full understanding of the Constitution and the courage to apply our founding document to every issue, including the war in Iraq. America needs to return to its founding principles of only fighting defensive wars, properly declared, and cease this endless nation building and dragon slaying.

In terms of domestic policy Ron Paul was also without peer. He uniformly opposes government powergrabs and intrusions into sections of American life where it has no business. The government has no authority and ought not to be involved in medical care, or any other entitlement program. Let the free market and individual liberty, which created our wealth and our standard of living, continue to propel this nation forward. We should never turn away from that path to the failed schemes of big government that totalitarian regimes the world round have proven to be abject failures.
