An investigative report by the Belleville News-Democrat out of Belleville, IL has found that the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has a very high error rate in who gets put on the state's official child abusers list.
A big part of the problem here is that social workers generally have incredible power over the whole situation and all rights are held by the state. Read on for more from the investigative report.

Posted at 9:53am on Mar. 11, 2008 School Clinics in California Help Girls Evade Drug Safety Regulations
By rguyshipe
From the Capitol Resource Institute (and California!):
When the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced in 2006 that the abortifacient drug "Plan B" was approved for over-the-counter use by women aged 18 years and older, CRI immediately criticized this action. One obvious negative point is that minors can easily sidestep the age requirement by having an older friend buy the drug for them.
But the reality is even worse than imagined. CRI was shocked and dismayed to discover through recent staff research that not only are minors able to access the drugs through older friends buying it for them, but it appears that on-campus health clinics are handing them out. And because many schools do not require parental notification when it comes to minors' "confidential medical services," parents are likely never notified that their young children are taking these dangerous, abortion-inducing drugs.

Posted at 2:08pm on Mar. 10, 2008 California and the Right to Home School
By rguyshipe
Following up on the story we've all been talking about since the recent decision. For more on what you can do about this, go here for HSLDA's petition.
Less than two weeks ago, a California appeals court declared in In Re Rachel L. that the vast majority of parents in California may only choose between public and private school because they are unqualified to teach their children. Tens of thousands of children in California are currently homeschooled, but this fact was unconvincing for these three judges, who boldly proclaimed that "parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children," unless they are certified by the state to teach.
In so ruling, the court declined to follow the Supreme Court's 1972 decision in Wisconsin v. Yoder and its 2000 ruling in Troxel v. Granville, relying instead upon two antiquated lower-court decisions. The California court refused to recognize parental rights as fundamental rights (even though the Supreme Court did in Troxel), opting instead for the more lenient, pro-government standard of "reasonableness." According to the court, homeschooling could not be a legitimate educational option because it would place "an unreasonable burden on the state to have to supervise each and every home in which a child was being educated."
How do you like that?

Posted at 3:48pm on Nov. 26, 2007 Parenting while poor? You might lose your kids
By rguyshipe
If this doesn’t make your blood boil nothing will. A mom lost one of her kids because she was poor. When she appealed, CPS retaliated by taking her other kids and then briefly removing children from her extended family! When she finally got a lawyer they took the lawyer’s kids too! Should the government be restricted to recognizing the fundamental rights of parents? Or should we just allow the government to determine what is in the “best interest of the child”? Watch the video and then encourage your friends to sign the Parental Rights Amendment petition:

From download squad:
"The United Nations rarely agrees on anything; They do however seem to find common ground when it comes to kicking bloggers, and any non-traditional media without a hierarchical editing process, out of the public discourse."
The U.N. is certainly an organization that has a lot to fear from bloggers.

Posted at 10:53am on Feb. 12, 2007 Are Taxes and War Immoral?
By rguyshipe
Are taxes and war always immoral? I read this passage from Luke 3:12-14 this morning:
"Tax collectors also came to be baptized. 'Teacher,' they asked, 'what should we do?'
"'Don't collect any more than you are required to,' he [Jesus] told them.
"Then some soldiers asked him, 'And what should we do?'
"He replied, 'Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely -- be content with your pay.'"

Posted at 12:42pm on Nov. 9, 2006 Local Issue that Drove Allen Down - Growth
By rguyshipe
Most of what happened to Allen was self-inflicted. It didn't have to be this way and everyone seems to agree with that. But there were local issues that certainly didn't help and one of them, in northern Virginia's Loudoun county, was growth.
Go back to 1996 and you'll find that Dole won every single precinct in the county. Since then the self-labeled "property rights" crowd has driven the Loudoun county GOP to loss after loss. Many of the recent losses have been very embarrassing. On November 7 Allen lost the county by a little more than 1000 votes.

Posted at 11:02pm on Nov. 5, 2006 Seen any Democratic ads that highlight an issue?
By rguyshipe
I live in Northern Virginia and I have not seen a single Democratic TV ad that highlights a candidate's stand on an issue. Nothing specific just vague references to values.
The only thing specific I've seen are ads highlighting Allen's and Erhlich's percentage that they voted with Bush. Also some other ads that highlight GOP candidates support of Bush. So the best issue they have is that Bush should not be supported.

Posted at 10:14pm on Nov. 4, 2006 Wow, now that's optimism
By rguyshipe
I thought I was optimistic about the elections but Dean Barnett over on HughHewitt.com is predicting the GOP will basically run the table in the Senate. He provides his analysis in the full post. His prediction for the Senate is as follows:
"So what’s it all mean? In the tied races, the Republican will win. In the close races, the Republican will win. It adds up to Republicans running the table in the Senate. That’s right – running the table. Montana, Virginia, Missouri, Tennessee, New Jersey, Rhode Island (whoopee), and Maryland will all send or re-send Republicans to the Senate. But wait, there’s more! Michigan will send Sheriff Michael Bouchard to the Senate. And in Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum is in striking distance."
