Posted at 4:44pm on Feb. 6, 2008 Communicating conservative economic policies
By Brad G
There has been some discussion on the new Fred Thompson News Forum about the problems conservatives have had lately communicating economic policies. First off, I do agree that our conservative leaders have not excelled in this area. Fred Thompson has been the best lately, and he was evidently just good enough to get third in South Carolina, behind the guy who voted against the Bush tax cuts and our version of John "Two Americas, sonofamillworker" Edwards, Mike Huckabee. Fred should at least be given credit for trying...

From Chattanoogan.com:
“While I am always happy to see Americans get refunds from the federal government, especially when so many of our citizens are struggling, I do have strong reservations about the economic stimulus package. I find something inappropriate about a deficit-ridden federal government borrowing money from our grandchildren and sprinkling it across the country for a short-term fix that will do little, if anything, to jump-start our troubled economy.”

The obituaries of Fred Thompson's presidential candidacy may already be written and, in some cases, published, but there are good reasons for Thompson to continue on with his struggle to return the Republican Party and America back to first principles. The most compelling reason to continue the fight is the evidence of the Tennessean's success. I don't necessarily mean his electoral success, but rather his success in bringing conservative positions to the fore.

By Brad G
VINTON, Iowa - Ever since Barack Obama suggested Hillary Clinton's eight years as first lady were a glorified tea party a few days back, she's looked for an opening to strike back.
On Saturday night in Dubuque she pounced, arguing she risked her life on White House missions in the 1990s, including a hair-raising flight into Bosnia that ended in a "corkscrew" landing and a sprint off the tarmac to dodge snipers.

I have as recently as yesterday criticized President Bush's big-spending form of conservatism, but I do still support the President. I only took the W04 sticker off my car to make room for the one that says Fred08. Mostly, I admire his steadfastness and resolve in the Global War on Terror. Facing near-record low approval ratings has not deterred President Bush in what has become the defining issue of our time and his Presidency. While the answers to his "political worldview" questions on the role of government may differ from mine in some areas, we agree that the government has no higher responsibility than protecting its people. This belief has spurred an aggressive execution of the GWOT, including the invasion of Iraq.

Posted at 12:23pm on Nov. 16, 2007 Fred: Don't let U.N. control Internet
By Brad G
Fred Thompson has a post at Fred08.com today about the idea of the United Nations taking control of the Internet:
"Foreign government officials from around the world meeting at a U.N.-sponsored conference in Brazil actually discussed this notion last week. It didn’t get much attention, but as we all know, that’s how bad ideas get traction."

By Brad G
Fred Thompson unveiled his plan for Saving and Protecting Social Security, and it certainly echoes what he's been saying on the stump.
And although the details are important, what's more important to me is that Fred is talking about this issue at all. ABC News' Jake Tapper said it well:

Posted at 11:05am on Nov. 5, 2007 Fred Thompson: "Philip Martin hasn't raised any improper funds"
By Brad G
Standing outside NBC studios in Washington yesterday after his 42 minutes with Tim Russert, Republican Presidential candidate Fred Thompson answered questions from other media outlets about his friend and fundraiser, convicted (28 years ago) drug dealer Philip Martin.
A producer for FOX News Chief Political Correspondent Carl Cameron caught the interview on tape and it has since been posted to Campaign Carl's blog. Of course, the first sentence on the video is possibly the most important: "Philip Martin hasn't raised any improper funds."

Posted at 12:19pm on Oct. 31, 2007 Fred to do "Meet the Press" Sunday-- will Mitt and Rudy follow suit?
By Brad G
Fred Thompson's campaign manager sent out an email yesterday announcing the candidate's upcoming appearance on Meet the Press. As an avowed FredHead, I think he needs this now. He's not been getting much press attention lately, and facing Russert for an hour is bound to generate some headlines (of course, that could be a double-edged sword, depending on his performance).
