I am admittedly a bit behind on my intake of primary related articles, so it wasn't until tonight that I read Fred's quote from Sunday about the Iowa Caucuses. In effect, he said that he needed to place second in order for his candidacy to remain viable. He wouldn't say that he would drop out if he didn't place second, but neither did he rule it out.

I know many of you have little faith in the polls coming out of Iowa, but it seems highly unlikely that Fred will finish 2nd. If I had to guess, I would wager on a 4th place result, though 3rd ahead of McCain certainly isn't out of the question. So, this begs the question - Is Fred giving himself an out?
