By Left Coast R

While waiting for my clothes to dry, my mind started wandering and settled on an old game I like to play called, "what would I do if I were Senator Hillary Clinton."

So what would I do if the party that I have run for the past 16 years abandoned me? What if it was my turn, and then some Johnny come lately Junior Senator was beating me in the delegate race?

Well, Hillary won't get the nomination, but that might be a good thing for her. McCain will most likely beat either one of them, and Democrats don't treat their failures well.

Posted at 1:44am on Mar. 14, 2008 A new attempt to drill in ANWR

By Left Coast R

The US senators from Alaska have introduced a bill to allow drilling in ANWR if oil stays at $125 a barrel for five straight days.

http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D8VCRMI80.htm

The article points out that the bill if it gains traction will face heavy opposition. I hope none of that oppositon comes from our party, but...

Tonight when Sean Hannity interviewed John McCain, he asked about drilling in ANWR. Sen. McCain said he was against it, and said we don't know if drilling would be succesful. Hannity pointed out a specific case where drilling in Alaska was successful, McCain quickly said, yeah but you've had situations like the Valdez oil spill.

Posted at 11:34pm on Jan. 30, 2008 2/5 will not decide Republican nominee

By Left Coast R

It's hard to find anyone who is saying that McCain won tonight. Romney looked good, and Huckabee got his lines in.

This may slow down McCain momentum going into Super Tuesday. Here is a delegate analysis from National Review Online:

http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MDkyN2RjZTVmMWE1MWQ0YzY5Y...

Looks like this race may go to Texas and Ohio, large delegate states that vote several weeks later. Texas has 140 delegates and Ohio 88. Before that, Virginia on 2/12 with it's 63 delegates votes. Unless Romney is down by 400 votes, I think he'll stay in.

Posted at 12:48am on Jan. 16, 2008 The Hate Hillary Crowd Made Their Voices Heard Tonight

By Left Coast R

With 94% of precincts reporting, Clinton is beating uncommitted 55-40. It's hard to say who would have won if the state was actually contested, but put this into perspective. Romney had a nine point win tonight in a hotly contested race. Clinton won by only six more than that in an uncontested race.

Many people probably voted for Clinton because she was the only front-runner on the ballot. Then many others came out to voice their opinion for...not Clinton.

Posted at 1:56am on Jan. 14, 2008 Optimism and Henry Ford

By Left Coast R

Henry Ford said, "If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right."

At the debate in South Carolina, Mitt Romney took a shot at John McCain saying,

"And I know that there are some people who think, as Senator McCain did, he said, you know, some jobs have left Michigan that are never coming back. I disagree.

I'm going to fight for every single job, Michigan, South Carolina, every state in this country. We're going to fight for jobs and make sure that our future is bright. We're going to protect the jobs of Americans and grow this economy again."

Posted at 3:03am on Jan. 10, 2008 History Lesson: 1992 Democratic Primary

By Left Coast R

This is from a Wikipedia entry.

"Tom Harkin had an early victory in his home state of Iowa, a contest that was largely uncontested by the other candidates, but fared poorly elsewhere. Tsongas emerged as the early front runner and won the New Hampshire Primary. During the summer of 1991, Clinton had been polling strongly, but a collection of sex scandals exploded and during the winter he plummeted to single digit support. After finishing a surprisingly strong second in New Hampshire he proclaimed himself to be the "comeback kid" and gained a great deal of momentum. Meanwhile, Tsongas, having started as a longshot candidate, won several primaries (Maryland, Arizona, Washington, and Utah), but found that there was insufficient time to accumulate funds after his surprise New Hampshire win (this was before Internet fundraising existed as a possibility), and withdrew before certain large-state primaries (most notably, New York and Illinois). Brown, who had done so poorly in the early primaries, was about to lose his matching funds until he unexpectedly emerged victorious in Colorado.

Posted at 1:42am on Jan. 6, 2008 Romney, Obama Hugging it Out

By Left Coast R

Tonight between debates, the candidates all had to shake hands with each other, like it was the end of a Pop-Warner game. Did anybody notice who spent the most time with whom? I noticed that Romney and Obama stuck together, and Giuliani and Clinton talked longest...I wonder what was said?

Posted at 6:23pm on Dec. 23, 2007 The American Dream

By Left Coast R

Earlier on RedState, I suggested that Romney should highlight his success in the private sector. Somebody responded that doing that would create a disconnect with the average Joe voter. Then I read the "open letter to Governor Huckabee" blog, and got inspired. Why would Romney's success create a disconnect? He has used the American system to become successful.

His story is similar to countless others, including everyone running for president right now, on both sides. The difference is, some people choose to be a champion of this message, and some try to tear it down. i.e. Huckabee's comments today and the entire John Edwards campaign.

Posted at 1:04pm on Dec. 23, 2007 McCain surging in New Hampshire

By Left Coast R

According to the most recent poll (by the Boston Globe), John McCain has all but closed the gap with Romney, Romney had a three point lead in that poll and now has a five point lead in the RCP average. I'm hoping to get some help on this, from anybody who knows or has seen; do New Hampshire voters care what happens in Iowa?

Posted at 10:00am on Dec. 23, 2007 More Clinton advisors?

By Left Coast R

So I know it's not popular to talk Lefty issues here, but I just read this article:
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071222/D8TMO2B80.html

Hillary and Obama arguing about who has the most advisers from the Bill Clinton era is a bit like bragging about who got the best grades at summer school.
